Just like last year, we had a ball again this year!!! We always go the first part of June to avoid hurricane season in full swing and to avoid the high crowds----sorry to say the cruise ships were small in number (only 3 the whole week) which hurts the Mexican economy-----that should change towards the end of the month as ships will be directed back to Coz---Even with the small crowd (about 300 total) we still got excellent service, food, beverage, maid service and the activity staff was as energetic as always!!! Have been to Coz numerous times and done all the tours, etc , so we did not leave the resort but once to go to town (just to say we went basically) Maybe we forego all the outside activities available due to our age (snow on the roof but still fire in the furnace!!) but regardless there is something at PR Coz to keep all ages entertained day and night!!! It is not a 5* hotel as you might expect in the USA but for Mexico we consider it a 5* mainly due to the people-----just super!!!! The guests there are so friendly---met people from Calgary, Canada'; New Jersey; Delaware; Oklahoma and of course, Texas. Even re-met a couple we have met several years ago at PR Cancun. We really feel like we are going home when we return to PR Coz as they seem like family and the hugs and smiles are in abundant!!! We just love it and will be back June, 2010. Go, enjoy, relax, be yourself and take in all that PR Coz has to offer----you will not be disappointed!!!!!

Traveled to Cozumel with a group of 13, 6 kids total, ages 2-10. Park Royal was an awesome resort. I was not sure what to expect by the pictures on the internet, but it was great. Five pools, four of which are next to the ocean, and one kiddie area with water slides. The buffet food was not that great, but there are a few snack shacks were you can get hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, or pizza. The Mexican restaurant was really good, I recommend the chicken fajitias. The hotel staff was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The room was spotless and comfortable.
We went into town for shopping and eating. Hard Rock cafe had great food. I was not impressed with Carlos N Charlies. One day we rented a jeep from Ernesto's and drove around to the other side of the Island. I highly recommend it. The waves were beautiful to watch coming in. Make sure to stop at Bob Marley's and Coconuts. Take cash and sunscreen. Avoid all the "Promotion" guys in the lobby of the hotel. They were very annoying. The jeep rental at Ernesto's was around $60 and worth it to not have to listen to the promotion guys and all the deals they have. Other than that it is a great hotel, with a good beach for snorkeling or playing in the sand. We all had a fabulous time. The bars are well stocked and the resort has many activities throughout the day for all ages.
Make sure to take OFF, mosquitoes were awful, drink only bottled water, and take Pepto every morning and you will have a great trip.

I have been to Mexico 9 times now and have to say that is my new favorite place. It is beautiful and not too big. Most resorts I have been to you have to walk so much to get anywhere. The layout here is perfect. You walk in the lobby and right behind there is the main buffet restaurant and the activities pool. Then you walk under the road through the tunnel and there's the beach and two infinity pools on each side. There is a swim up bar at each one.

CHECK IN AND ROOMS: So simple. We walked up and the staff was so friendly. Within 2 minutes a guy walked up and handed us some rum punch. My husband and I went with another couple, but we booked our trips seperate. I asked the lady at the front desk if we could get rooms next to each other. She said sure and changed our rooms to connecting ones. It was perfect and check in took about 5 minutes. The rooms were SO CLEAN. We didn't get a King bed, but didn't mind since the rooms were so nice. The bathroom, huge shower, and floors were spotless. There is a safe, but you have to pay $2 a day, but it is worth it so you don't have to worry about your valuables.

POOLS: There are 3 pools. The one pool in the middle is the activities pool which is somewhat shaded. We did not really hang out at this pool because it was not close to the beach. We loved the other two pools. They were infinity pools that were right on the beach with big jacuzzis. The jacuzzis were about the same temperature as the pools, but that's how they all are in Mexico. Why would you want to sit in 100 degree water when it is 90 degrees out. The jets were nice and we enjoyed sitting in them when enjoying drinks.

BEACH: Not much of a beach here, but awesome snorkeling. My husband and other people we met said that it was the best snorkeling they have ever seen. I went out in the water and about 20 feet our it drops off real quick. There is a reef there and then the pier where the cruise ships dock.

FOOD: I am picky and I have to say it was good. The buffet was ok....there were always something to eat. My husband and friends loved the hot dogs and hamburgers at the snack bar. They had nachos with plenty of toppings at the snack bar as well. We were there 3 nights, so we ate at the Italian restaurant the first night. There are a lot of choices to choose from....lasagna, spagetti, fettucine alfredo, etc. It was pretty good. We went to the Mexican restaurant the second night. The appetizers were good and we ate the chicken fajitas that were awesome. We liked it so much that we went back to the Mexican restaurant the last night too.

BARS: There were 2 pool bars that were great. The drinks were amazing.....loved the strawberry daiquiris and margaritas. There is also a lobby bar and a sports bar that is really nice. It is trendy and has flat screens. The guys liked watching the NBA Finals here. The alcohol was nice too.....not cheap nasty stuff. They had Jack, Beam, Smirnoff vodka, Jose Cuervo and Cuervo Traditional which is an agave premium tequila. Most resorts we have been to have REALLY CHEAP liquor and nasty drinks, so we were so happy to have normal liquor.

NIGHTLIFE: The location of the Park Royal is perfect. It is only a 5 minute ride from downtown where all the bars are at. It's $8 each way in a cab. We went to Senor Frogs and had a blast. We talked to the manager there and got a good deal. Margaritas are $12 each there for the small ones, so we ended up getting 3 hours of open bar (all drinks and shots) for $30 a person. They play awesome music here and had a good band when we went that played popular covers.

Overall, we loved it and want to go back sometime. It was a great deal, a good location, beautiful and so clean. :)

My wife and I booked this last minute trip as a get away. Having visited Cozumel many times via Cruise Ship we have always wanted to stay for more that 8 hours to really enjoy the island, its people and all it has to offer. With the Swine induced low airfares and hotel rates …….. we picked the right time to go. The pricing on the Parl Royal was right in-between the luxury resorts and the normal non all inclusive hotels and motels. For $133 per night for 2 people I was a little concerned about the quality… but at that price we were willing to sacrifice a little. Here is the great thing….. we did not have to sacrifice anything. As you have read from many of the previous reviews……….. THIS PLACE IS SPOTLESS !!!!!! Rooms, Bars, Pools, Kitches etc…………. clean clean clean. Ice cold air in the rooms too !!! Food at all the restaurants was above average, with the breakfast buffet and the Mexican specialty our favorites. The snack bars by the pools were limited and simple with hotdogs, burgers and Nacho’s. These are real corn tortilla chips with all the toppings… the cheddar cheese sauce was a bit watered down. Drinks were surprisingly good and plenty strong. All the bars have frozen mixers so order a special drink where they use one of the mixes and your drink will stay nice and cold. They have a 100% pure Aguave tequila from Jose Cuervo………. Drink it….. it was great for shots and drinks. The pools were very nice…. both at the hotel and on the beach. The beach is very small and has kind of been cut out This is not a large beach front hotel like in Cancun. No waves……. No long stretches of sand……. But it was very accommodating for sunbathing and snorkeling. There is no better place on earth to sip a cool drink and watch the cruise ships sail away or view a spectacular sunset than from these pools.

Yes the beds are a little firm….. Welcome to Mexico. We have stayed in 5 star luxury resorts in Mexico and had the same issue. It is what it is…. And actually left there saying how good we slept. (Ok we had some assistance from the bar).

We don’t SCUBA …. But will next trip. This island is a SCUBA Mecca. We rented a car for the week … picked up and dropped off at the airport. Small 4 door with air was perfect for driving ALL OVER the island. Just great to be able to go as you please with out having to pay for a taxi !

The activities at the hotel were pretty fun…. Great folks…. Have fun with them.

Everything and more! We plan another trip in August 2009. I just love Cozumel overall.. The staff are helpful and friendly.Everything is very clean. Bring a can of OFF if it rains, there are alot of Mosquitos. My only compliant would be that the bars open later than announced, 5 minutes turn into 1 hour. The drinks are alittle weak and off brand. The Mexican and Italian Resturants were okay. Slow service in the Mexican Resturant . The Buffet was very good at breakfast. We never ate there for lunch or dinner. I prefer the food at Toro's Place in town. The food is better, drinks are name brand and Strawberry Margarita's are the best I have ever had. Park Royal is beautiful and relaxing. In August we will eat at the Buffet or town.

First thing you should do when you land…is run to the airport exit. You’ll have people asking where you’re staying and then guide you to a salesman. Just go straight for the exit and find your shuttle or grab a taxi. Taxi’s usually run about $5 for trip to the hotel or town which is pretty good considering the cost of a rental.

Most of the rooms have two double beds when you ask for a room with a king its ‘unavailable’. I slipped the guy at the desk a ten and was able to get a king. The food at the buffet was decent with a different theme every night. The restaurants were better and you’re given a selection of beer. All they have at the bars is Dos XX on tap. Which is was good just wouldn’t have minded a little variety.

The best part was the snorkeling (which is where I spent most of the day). This place doesn’t have much of a beach but the water is flawless. Fantastic wild life.

The only thing I didn’t like was the stupid peacocks…every morning like a rooster. YEEEAHHHHHH…YEEEAHHHH!

This was our first time in Cozumel and we stayed at the Park Royal through RCI. It definitely ranked up there with the other all-inclusives we've been to in Mexico. Beautiful hotel grounds, very nice pools (especially the pools by the beach!), very friendly staff. We loved that the grounds were so lush with tropical trees and plants. Other reviews complained about the trees blocking the view - we were on the 4th floor and looked right over the trees and could easily see the ocean. The lower floors were probably blocked by the trees though.

Our room was very nice and housekeeping did a great job at keeping it clean. They also gave you 2 free bottles of water each day. Only a few complaints: the lack of lighting, especially in the bathroom (nearly impossible to put makeup on!), the beds were pretty hard, and we didn't get a king (we just pushed the 2 double beds together).

The food was pretty good, especially at the buffet. I feel like things might've been scaled back a little, since the hotel was pretty empty due to the swine flu. But the buffet still had a pretty good variety every day, a lot of fresh fruit, a different theme for dinner each night. We liked the Italian restaurant pretty well - great service, good selection of food - but we didn't like the Mexican restaurant at all. Really slow service and the food was pretty bland. We didn't even stay for dessert. We visited the sports bar several times to watch the NBA playoffs and really liked the atmosphere. The drinks from around the hotel were really good - always plenty strong. We tipped the bartender at the pool bar that we visited regularly at the beginning of the week and never had a problem with drinks afterward!

The pools and small beach were very nice. We spent most of our time at one of the beach-front pools, just leaning on the infinity edge and enjoying the ocean view. The beach has nice soft sand with a shallow wading pool that opens into the ocean. You can snorkel off the beach, but most of the fish are in the shallow pool. Once you get into open water, they're pretty scarce. We never had any problem finding a chair at the pool or the beach, but again, the hotel was pretty empty.

Other reviews complain about the cruise ships because they are so close. We were lucky enough to see Cozumel's first cruise ship in more than a month - very important day for the island! Yes, the ships do come pretty close to the hotel - you can even hear the loudspeaker announcements from the boat while you're sitting on the beach. But they are way off to the south side of the hotel and only block a little bit of the view to that side. We actually enjoyed watching the ship come in, watching people come and go, and then watching the ship leave in the evening. I've included a picture from the beach so you can get an idea of just how close they come.

Overall, we had a great, relaxing time. A few other random things.... The hotel is not within easy walking distance of town or any real nightlife, so I'd suggest renting a car or plan on paying for taxis if you want to go shopping or go out to the bars. Taxis were about $5-8 one way. There is a Walmart-type store pretty close by. The hotel has free parking and free WiFi in the lobby. The hotel does have peacocks on site, so plan on waking up to loud bird calls everyday!
