“Great time - Bring your own snorkel gear”
Reviewed 3 March 2011

We stayed at the PR from 02/21/11 to 02/26/11 with our three year old son. We thought the resort was nice for what we paid. The pools were a little cold in the mornings, but by the afternoon, the cool water felt great. The thing we enjoyed the most was that you can snorkel right in front of the resort. We brought our own snorkel gear and snorkeled everyday. There were tons of beautiful fish!

We were disappointed in the children's food selection. The morning buffet was good - with pancakes, yogurt, and fresh fruit. For lunch we ate at either the Bikini Beach bar or at the beach front grille. Both places offered really good hamburgers, hot dogs, and nachos. Wish that those places would offer french fries for kids. The night buffet was a disappointment. Of all the nights we were there, the buffet only had french fries for kids one time. My son ate mostly lunch meat at the night buffet. It would also be nice if there was an ice cream station at the buffet. We noticed several people ask "where is the ice cream" during our stay.

The food was the biggest disappointment for us. However, we spoke with several other couples who said that the food at Park Royal was much better than other resorts they had stayed at on the island.

If you want a chair by the beach or beach pools, you have to get out there and save one by 7:00 a.m.

Three things we would change or add that would have made our stay spectacular
1) Better food selection at the evening buffet
2) Bring in a self serve ice cream area
3) Add a children's playground that kids can play on when the Kids Club area is locked up for the evening.

Two individuals who helped us were Samuel (bellman/concierge). He was great at answering all of our questions - and Freddy Ramirez Perera who is a timeshare representative. Freddy was so nice to us even after we told him we were not going to buy a timeshare or sit through the presentation. Freddy gave us so many wonderful tips about where to go with our son, where to eat, etc.

Would we go back? -- Definately!!

We stayed at Park Royal three years ago and I must say it was better at that time. It was more crowded this time around and what really upset us what the fact that you had to get up before 7:00 just to put your beach towel on a chair to claim it, otherwise you didn't have a beach chair for the day. Others might be used to this but we certainly weren't. We were on vacation and didn't want to get up before the crack of dawn just to reserve a chair. So that was kind of a downer. The last three days of vacation, we just went to different beach clubs and didn't have to worry about reserving a chair.

Park Royal used to have 4 restaurants, including the buffet but are now down to three. The one they closed was the best one. Breakfast and lunch were good, but the food in the two specialty restaurants was average, but the service was great.

We do like the location of the resort. It's less than 10 minutes by cab to town and we went into town a number of times during our week stay. The resort is also very clean and the staff is friendly and attentive.

We really did have an enjoyable time in Cozumel and Park Royal, other than the beach chairs.

Our first trip EVER to Mexico and Cozumel was a great choice! We will definitely go again and stay at Park Royal. Everything was beautiful and staff so helpful. Talk about being waited on hand & foot!
Pools were cold, unfortunately. We heard because of recent rains. Beach is small, but beautiful. Rocky as we had read, but awesome snorkeling! We picked Park Royal because of the snorkeling NOT because of the beach. If you want a big beach to walk around on, this is not the place for you.
The location is perfect! You can get away from the resort and walk down to shop at cruise ship ports, and head towards town for a few good spots to have a beverage and watch the sun go down. You will enjoy the luxury of getting a beer in a bottle instead of a plastic cup!
Downside is the two restaurants that you have to get reservations for. We NEVER got a reservation prior to 9:30 p.m. and by then we had had enough fun in the sun that we were ready for bed. We would get there about 12:15 just to find out they opened early for reservations CONTRARY to what they say! They need to put in another restaurant to open up more spots for all of us to eat. The buffet gets tiresome after 7 nights, so did find other places to eat while we were out and about.
I got sick with SEVERE diarreha from I don't know what... on the second night. My husband didn't get sick, thank gosh. I was sick for 4 out of 7 nights. Ran into many people at our resort that were also sick. So not sure if it was the food, the water, or just mexico in general.
Overall, for the value this is an awesome place to stay! Upgrade to a sea view room as it is worth it just for the morning wake-up routine.

My husband and I stayed at the Park Royal Cozumel for 7 days in February. We were immediately impressed by the hotel's lobby area, with it's giant tepee covering and its marble floors. The entire hotel had an open, airy feel to it which was exactly what we needed after escaping the Midwestern winter. Our room had two double beds, which was fine with us, and the balcony had a view of the pool. The main pool was perfect for my pale skin, because it was surrounded by palm trees and was shady all day long. For people who prefer to lay in the sun, there are two infinity pools with swim-up bars overlooking the ocean.

The private beach is just across the street, with an underpass leading from the hotel. The beach is small but very pretty, and there is plenty of snorkeling just off the beach. We took our own snorkel masks but you can also rent them from the hotel. The sea is relatively calm, although it's quite rocky so wear river shoes or flippers.

The main restaurant is buffet-style and I was impressed by the selection of fresh fruit. There were some odd choices -- such as tacos for breakfast -- but overall, the food selection was good. They try to include a variety of dishes so there is something for everyone. The hotel has two other restaurants -- a Mexican and an Italian. Both are sit-down and require reservations, as there is limited seating. We loved the food at the Mexican restaurant, and the Italian was good but not the best. I liked the dessert buffet at the Italian restaurant but that's because I could eat meringues which are the best invention ever.

The bartenders are all super friendly. Stay away from the strawberry margaritas -- the strawberry slush is way to sweet and just bad. But the regular margaritas on the rocks are the bomb, as are the mojitos. The bartenders aren't shy with the liquor!

The pools aren't heated, so they were kind of cold to get into. However, once I started swimming it was fine, and after a long day of sightseeing, it was great for cooling off and freshening up. The hot tubs are also not heated, but they overlook the ocean so who cares!

The only downside I can think of is that there didn't seem to be much to do at night. A live Mexican band would be awesome, but the most I saw was a dude with a keyboard playing and singing "Isn't She Lovely" completely out of tune, accompanied by a drunk guy who thought he was awesome but wasn't. But the town is only a 45-minute walk or an $8 taxi ride, so you can always head out if you want more excitement.

Wont return here or to cozumel again, the hotel was very clean thats one good thing I could say and a young man that greeted us when we checked in was very helpful. The beds were hard as rocks ,the pool surrounds were so bumpy an irregular you could hardly walk , the buffet food was ok the fruit an salad were best part, the italian resturant if you could get reservation was not very italian, I ordered marinara sause an it came with some kind of terrible cream vodka sause, my wife ordered fillet steak and it was raw had to send it back twice we final just walk out.Be ready to do some stair climbing there are stairs everywhere , the timeshare salespeople are very aggressive and annoying ,you have to pay for use of room safe or gym , The hotel could have been tolerable if it had a nice walkable beach but the beach was a joke ,had to rent a jeep to go to other side of the island where the beach is nicer.DONT STAY HERE

This hotel was fabulous. I had done a little research online prior to picking this resort. I heard very little bad about it, so we booked. We were very happy with it. We had read something about the cruise ships blocking the view. They are right there, but we enjoyed watching them come in and out. The pool areas were great and some of the best snorkeling on the island was right off the beach. Food was good and people were friendly. It was an 7 dollar cab ride to downtown but the locals were, right. the best time to go is after 3 or before 11am. Less people as there could be as many as 8 cruise ships docked at a time. We really enjoyed our vaction. We will definately be back !

When my husband and I arrived at the hotel we were greeted with a tropical drink. Our room was not ready. No big deal, we walked the beautiful grounds then had a drink at the Bikini Bar and ate some delicious nachos and salsa. Our room was very nice and clean. We thought the bed was comfortable and had no problem with the hot water. Watching the ships coming in and out of port was great. We had no problem with the Timeshare Staff. Matter of fact they were very helpful and courteous, especially Alejandro (Alex) who we became friends with. The staff at the hotel was unbelievable. They worked very hard and always pleasant. The food was very good with a large selection. I have no complaints, although there could be a few more lounge chairs. I would definitely recommend Park Royal.
