“Family diving vacation - much fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

Vacationed with three of our adult children and one daughter's sigificant other. Overall, this was a great place to stay. We have stayed at many resorts in Cozumel and this was right up there with the best of them. It is close enough to Dressel Divers at Iberostar to walk down the beach to the dive shop. The only issue was that the a/c in our rooms the first day was really slow getting cold. By night, it was cold enough that we slept fine. And, given a choice, we would have dealt with anyone other than Francisco at the front desk - he was really not very customer-service driven in that he acted like every request or issue was a personal pain in the hiney for him (rolled his eyes, totally distracted, etc.). All other staff we've dealt with have been very helpful and courteous. Abi and the rest of the folks at the pool area were great! BTW - bugs are a real issue - bring bug spray!! All in all, we would stay here again!

Room Tip: The rooms are quite large, but can confirm the other comments - very few king-sized beds. We made t...

Two Weeks In Paradise
We had a fabulous family break here. Set in the mangrove this smaller hotel is the perfect getaway from the hustle & bustle of working life. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, although we spent little time there as there was too much fun to be had around the site.
On arrival after an exhausting journey the reception greeted us with "Don't worry about your bags, we'll take care of everything, you go and have something to eat" - an excellent start.
We don't usually do 'Hotel Entertainment' & 'Kids Clubs' but this holiday was the exception as the evening entertainment was varied and of a very high standard.
The hotel's shining star is Abi - 'The Pied Piper of Cozumel' . Our girls had a fabulous time and have a suitcase full of things they made during their stay. It also gave us some time out to dive or snorkel when they wanted to play by the pool - I want to take her home with us.
As a self-confessed foodie I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety on the buffets, even at breakfast. Even though we were in the Royal Club and could have breakfast in our rooms or the exclusive restaurant, the family chose the breakfast buffet as the food was better and the service more efficient. The evening meals in all the restaurants was excellent, fillet steak and shrimp every day if you wish. My only grumble is that, although the buffets are constantly changing, the food in the restaurants is always the same ... Not even a different soup!!!
Also the staff in restaurants are less attentive and even 'difficult' on occasion. One night the concierge booked a table for us at the wrong time and we got an argument from the staff ? even though the restaurant was mostly empty, had three staff and only three more couples arrived in the next two hours. On another occasion we arrived back unexpectedly early from a day out and asked the almost empty Royal Club Restaurant if we could get a table - "it's impossible sir" was the reply even through no more people arrived that night? A Very Weird Attitude and so different to the rest of the hotel staff who were exemplary.

The resort was a nice size - large enough to feel secluded from other guests/buildings but small enough that walking between the beach and main lobby area only takes a few minutes. We were told at check in that 90% of the rooms have two double beds, so if you're counting on a king sized bed, you might want to look elsewhere or pay to be in the Royal Club. Due to the tropical climate, guest rooms will not be cold ever. We kept our curtains closed all of the time (keeping the sun out of the room helped to keep it cooler) and the bathroom door closed to help the A/C keep the main room at a pleasant temperature. Our bathroom window faced the east, so keeping the door closed at night also helped keep the light from the sun out of the bedroom allowing us to sleep in a bit. The bathroom was large and the water HOT (I took cool showers to help with the room temperature) and the shower head was AMAZING as the water flow was strong and easily directed. Please consider leaving a tip for the housekeeping staff that refreshes your room each day. We never had a problem with having our refrigerator filled with water as some others have mentioned.

The food in the buffets was adequate but not for those who are extremely picky about their food. I highly recommend the grilled fish at the buffets - light, flaky, and fresh! They do limit the number of restaurant reservations you can make depending on how many nights you are staying at the resort. The A/C in the restaurants has a difficult time keeping up with the demand. The bartenders (especially Freddy at the main pool) were very attentive and mixed drinks well. Also a good idea to throw them a tip when you order your drinks.

This resort is located at the southern end of Cozumel away from the bustle of the downtown area...extremely beneficial on the days when cruise ships are in the ports. The beach was well-kept, and the water was great for snorkeling (but you will only see fish - don't expect coral or much other underwater sights). I never had a problem finding a lounge chair by either pool or on the beach. The provided beach towels are large and clean. Very large iguanas are a common sight around the pools - they will leave you alone if you leave them alone, so don't worry. On our walk to the room when we checked into the resort we saw a large crab, iguana, lizard, and SNAKE (on the sidewalk, but the only snake we saw during our stay) - wildlife is prevalent.

I recommend that you walk down to the beach at night for a unique experience of sight and sound. The stars are amazing, the area is well-lit enough to feel a sense of security, and the bridge over the mangrove area is filled with hundreds of frogs making quite the cacophony of sound...not to be missed! Remember to bring and use mosquito repellant - you will need it during the evening and night time hours - even indoors.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this resort very much. The only negative comment my boyfriend had was that he wished the property would leave the fountains running at night as the ambient sound would be nice on the walk to dinner/the show/the disco and back to the room.

Room Tip: Rooms are automatically assigned prior to your arrival, so you don't have much of a say unless y...

We had double beds. We booked our stay through a travel agent though in hindsight, I wish I would have made the reservations directly with the resort. When we attempted to switch there weren't any single king beds available. That is probably the only really bad thing I can say about this place.

+ Beautiful resort. The gardeners are excellent and keep this place looking lush and beautiful. It is home to free roaming iguanas, turtles, crabs, etc.
+ The resort has 30min- per- day- free snorkel and wind surfing gear. I was impressed by the amount of fish I saw. They also have on site scuba equipment available for rent.
+ The staff keeps this place clean.
+ Beach is private and kept clean. (wear bug spray to avoid sand flea bites)
+ Staff is friendly, needless to say, they get friendlier with tips (bring plenty of $5 bills and $1).
+ Designated relaxation pool area (for the chill and quiet crowd) and activities pool (for those who enjoy splish and splash, they also moderate water sports, etc. for anyone who wishes to participate).
+ Nightly entertainment (catch the Aztec show) under the starry sky
- Drinks are a little watery; I suppose this is for good reason.
- The buffets and restaurants were okay. There is a lot to choose from but the daily menus here are always the same. Authentic Mexican food is very rare here (but based from my past experiences, this may be the case for most all-inclusive Mexican resorts). Food is bland. No spicy salsa. One night they had Oaxacan tamales and they were delicious.

Room Tip: There aren't any rooms with a view of the beach.

We came to Cozumel for three nights at the beginning of May, having the chance to sample it in the middle of a longer stay at the Occidental Grand Xcaret.
Some trouble initially getting the a/c to work properly, but apart from that the room was very nice, spotlessly clean, and with little balcony overlooking the "jungle".
Nice pools, one busy, one quiet, we opted for the quiet one, always spare sunbeds, and small poolside bar with cheerful barman. Beach is soft sand, again spare sunbeds, snorkelling in the buoyed-round area worth a look (yes some fish, one a fair barracuda), beachside bar and food area did nice burgers etc., plus plentiful buffet.
Food in main buffet restaurant plentiful and eatable, but range of dishes not as much as we would have wished. Tried to book a speciality restaurant for at least one of the evenings, were told "Sorry, full up".
Hotel is situated in middle of mangrove swamp, so insects were a problem, particularly sunset onwards. We liberally used repellent which kept bites to manageable level.
Dive school staff very helpful, I only wanted snorkelling which was pretty good, turtles and plenty of Angelfish, I went out with one of the dive boats each time, and got a freebie the second time, courtesy of the staff. Didn't think much to Columbia reef, but the ledges (second venue) were very good indeed. Safety aspects all in place, well done!
Overall, a quiet, relaxing, stay, staff helpful but a little diffident in manner, big change from super helpful, super friendly staff at sister hotel at Xcaret.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are very nice, but don't expect king-sized bed. You'll probably get two doub...

The rooms were big, the resort was very clean, the themed restaurants had great food although the buffets were only ok. The all inclusive is deffinatley the way to go although the alcohol was tasted watered down. The beach area was beautiful and there was never a problem getting a lounge chair.

Room Tip: Buildings 18 and 19 are closest to the pool and the beach.

We have stayed here twice. It is a beautiful resort and the rooms are very spacious and clean. The all-inclusive is a good deal and the food is good with a nice variety at each meal. The swimming pool and beach are very nice. The grounds around the buildings are beautifully landscaped. The biggest drawback is that internet is only available for a charge and it is not available in the rooms.

Room Tip: I would ask for an upper floor with a balcony.
