A group of 7 of us decided not to do a Carnival excursion and went to the taxi area to get prices for Mr. Sanchos. The man in charge kept telling us we would have a better experience with Ocean VIP Beach club. We later realized he must receive some type of monetary compensation to push this particular resort so hard. He more or less pressured us into choosing Ocean VIP. He also stated that the all inclusive price for Mr. Sanchos did not include the inflatables. We had read that it did. He told us our taxi ride would be $28 for the 7 of us and then it would cost us $60 per person for an all inclusive price which would include all you care to eat and drink along with the other amenities- water inflatables, kayaks, etc. We made sure we asked him the price for the taxi ride back to the ship and he told us it would be the same rate.
When we arrived at the VIP beach "club", we were greeted by a man who said he would take care of us during our time there. He did provide good service and was very attentive and took our orders for food and drink and delivered them quickly. The food was average.
The biggest drawbacks of this place were the beach and the constant parading of sellers. A group of about 5 people including children, constantly walked up and down the rows between the loungers with every type of souvenir you could imagine. I would say that there was never more than a 10 minute break between the constant sales pitches for each item.
The loungers were so close together and crammed into a small area that it was hard to feel comfortable.
We also were disappointed with the beach area. We were not prepared for the rocks on the sandy floor in the water. I asked the original person who pushed this beach if there was sand or rocks in the beach area and he told us the beach was sandy and there weren't any rocks. You can barely avoid the rocks in the water and the first time you enter the water, you will either stub your toe on the rocks or if you see the rocks and try to step on them, some of them are sharp enough to cut your feet. You definitely need water/sand shoes if you choose this excursion.
When we were ready to leave, we again asked the rate to return back to our boat and we were told the same rate- $28. When we got back to town, the cab driver said that our ship was at the first pier he came to. We told him that we were at the pier further down into Cozumel (I think that it is called the International Pier). At this point, the driver got huffy and said we would need to pay more money for the taxi ride since it was further. We explained that we had paid $28 for the first taxi ride and we wanted to return to the same place. He argued and said he had a rate chart and our taxi ride would be $32. While the price wasn't much more, our whole group already felt we had paid more than what we had received and we wouldn't pay the extra fare. The driver made some comments under his breath about this being our vacation and not paying the correct fare would be up to us.
I would not recommend this excursion to anyone. It was overpriced, crowded, and the beach area was not easy to enjoy.
