My fiancee and I stayed in an all inclusive resort on Cozumel in december of 2012. While taking a scooter ride on the east side, we saw this hotel and simply had to stop and check it out. Accomodations are clean, but sparse. No phones, tv's (who needs a tv?) and electricity is limited, but more than enough to charge electronic gadgets. My fiancee told me I was nuts as I paid $100 for one night, even though we had a room back at our resort. We went back to our resort, packed some things, rented a car and then stopped at the Mega mart in San Miguel to buy a foam cooler, ice, soda, alcohol and some food. At that time, there was no dinner options at the hotel.

We simply had a fabulous stay. The ocean breeze coming through the patio doors was amazing as we ate our dinner, had a few drinks. The stars at night were simply breathtaking and then being sung to sleep by the waves crashing outside our room. Then we woke to an amazing sunrise!

Keep in mind there are only 14 rooms, and this is the only property of any kind for any distance on the east side so there is no crowds, no noise other than the surf crashing on the rocks. The beach is huge, only downside to the beach is the trash that washes ashore.

The staff was very friendly, breakfast was good, freshly made for us not a buffet, and plenty of hot water for showers.

We simply loved the adventure.

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room in the place. 2 level suites were interesting, but the standard rooms ar...

Standing on its own on the east side of the island gently kissing the wild caribbean sea.

We stayed in february for a couple of days looking for a place to get away from it all. The structure itself is wonderful. Rooms are huge with terraces overlooking the caribe..

Waking up to the amazing sunrise, experiencing the infinite stretch of sandy beach just for you to enjoy - priceless.

Staff is wonderful. Many thx to Julio who was the kindest person ever.

To complement the stay food is gorgeously fine..simply fine..

We loved Our stay at Ventanas Al Mar on our vacation to Cozumel February 2nd through the 10th of 2014 Julio, Jorge and Coco and the whole staff there did a great job making us feel welcomed and were very helpful in any way they could. Our room was clean and ready for us when we arrived and was cleaned daily. We enjoyed the fresh picked flowers and towel animal creations. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. The sound of the waves of the Caribbean crashing against the rocks right outside our balcony was incredible. We enjoyed sitting on our balcony gazing at all the stars at night and the awesome sunrise in the morning. We are looking forward to staying here again on our next vacation to this beautiful Island of Cozumel.

We didn't want to stay in the noise and hustle of the town, and luckily found this gem of a property on the wilderness side of the island of Cozumel. There are no other lodgings, just an untamed beach, crashing waves and gorgeous sunrises!! The hotel is small and well-kept, white plaster gleaming in the sun. Furnishings are somewhat sparse, and each room is decorated with shells and coral. Every day when they clean the rooms, the maids create towel art bound to make you smile. Breakfasts are included daily and were fresh and delicious, everything from eggs to quesadillas and pancakes and always lots of fresh fruit. You can opt to go into town for dinner, but recommend staying and dining at the hotel, where chef Tony creates fabulous meals to order each evening. You need to let them know your plans by 2 p.m. so he can purchase the catch of the day for your meal. Everyone working here is truly dedicated to making the guests happy and it made our stay a delight. Rooms on the first floor have their own sand beach above the rock cliffs; rooms upstairs look out over over them from protected patios. High ceilings make the most of the ocean breezes; even on the hottest days we were totally comfortable with the doors wide open. The beach is a bit rough, but once you get past the breakers, swimming is fine and the water is crystal clear. From either direction on the road in front of the hotel, you can drive into town and be there in under half an hour. You can rent a car (we did, from Avis at the airport) or use one of the many taxi services. Bring a good book to read and you can swap it when you're finished for another from the bookshelves in the dining nook in the open-air lobby. A swimming pool is under construction right now. There's a volleyball net on the beach, along with umbrellas for shade and chaise lounges for basking. The hotel maintains a small bar and stocks wines ranging from $20-25 a bottle (they will also serve by the glass). Right next door, Coconuts restaurant and bar is a hill-top rock and roll spot filled with parrots, dogs and fun.

Room Tip: Every room here is wonderful; there are several two-story suites if you want more space, but the reg...

Thank you Ricardo for another wonderful stay. This is truly the hotel to get away from it all. The drive into town takes about 20 minutes but it is a beautiful scenic drive. Driving at night is not an issue. Also, there are a few beach bars on the east side to stop. I know that I will return someday.

We found this place on a day trip to the island from Playa Del Carmen back in 2008. We always vowed that we would stay there someday. Someday took way too long, but well worth the wait! Like other reviewers before, I am hesitant to let the ‘cat out of the bag’ about this hotel, but it is just too good to not share (we will just have to be sure and book WELL in advance!)

The staff is extremely friendly and does everything they can to make your stay pleasant. Julio has recently been brought on board and he is a great host. He truly cares about each and every guest. George is a super bellman/waiter, but definitely be prepared with some Spanish, he is still learning English. Coco, the groundskeeper, is always around, making you feel welcome with his smile and warm greeting. And the housekeeping staff did a wonderful job, our room was always clean and well made.

The hotel does not have AC, so we left the balcony doors open to the sea - and what a view from our balcony! breathtaking and wonderful. The colors are so vivid and sounds so close. At night, I am sure a few loud crashes woke us from our sleep! The hotel is dated, but they are adding a pool in front, and they are updating a few rooms with new windows/patio doors.

Since the hotel is on the uninhabited side of the island, there is no electricity. The hotel runs on a combination between solar and generator power. One night we were there, the power was off from 11PM till 6AM, but who needs power when you are sleeping? We did come with a small LED flashlight, but cellphone light would have worked fine too. There is free wifi in the lobby and dining area, handy to download that next e-book in the series you are in the middle of. Or you could check emails too for that matter.

We requested a refrigerator, which was $10 extra per day, but well worth it. We shopped at the MEGA store and got bottled water, Coke Lite and a few other food and drink items, and it was good to have the fridge to keep them cold.

If you are looking for the high-end, all inclusive, castle style resort, this place is not for you. If you are looking for a quiet, solitary, even romantic place with excellent views (did I mention all rooms are ocean front???), great breakfast and wonderful, friendly staff, this is it!

The hotel offers food for breakfast, and it is made to order, and fantastic. Highly recommend the Huevos Rancheros! A great way to start the day. for lunch, we wandered up the steps to Coconuts. food is good, drinks are ok, both a little pricey, but the view is amazing! Supper is offered again at the hotel, with arrangements being made at breakfast. There is a charge but it is nominal, especially compared to the quality of the food. They also offer wine, again for a nominal charge. And if you have a request for a particular wine, Julio will be sure to accommodate!

To sum it up, it is one little amazing gem of a hotel. We hope you never go there and take our room the times we want to go. Every other week, please flock and fill it up, as this place is awesome! =)

Room Tip: All rooms are ocean front. both levels are great!

Let me start by saying that they are undergoing a renovation currently. Ricardo, the owner, emailed me directly to advise me of such and offered to refund my money if I wanted to move properties. I told him that while I appreciated it, there was no way we were going to miss the chance to stay at Ventanas al Mar.

My partner and I stayed here a few years ago and loved it. We love the remote location, the unbelievable (but not over solicitous) customer service, the stars, the wind, the dinners and breakfasts. Located on the "wild side" of the island, there is no power to that side of the island. Ricardo keeps a "green" philosophy with solar and wind, but does need to rely on generators (you can't hear them..) at times to supplement. This is the ONLY hotel on this side of the island and with no other light pollution, the stars are incredible at night. The beach is always empty and completely private... you will never fight crowds here.

I will say that this is not a property for all travelers. I'm in the travel industry and a bit of a travel snob, but that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate all different environments and cultures while traveling. If your idea of heaven is a mega resort with a pristine and generic environment, this is not the place for you. The fixtures here are not perfect, and some areas are showing their age, but it's part of the absolute charm of this place. No A/C, no TV, no phones... if you need to connect, they have wireless in the outdoor living area. We spent our nights there after dinner enjoying the music, breeze, having wine and cigars.

Someone remarked that the place was dirty....that couldn't be further from the truth. They housekeeping staff is working day/night to keep the place impeccable.

Sleeping with the doors open to the ocean with the waves crashing on the rocks, wind blowing through keeping you more than cool all night.

The food was all made to order. Fresh fish both nights for dinner..perfectly prepared. Breakfast when we were ready and delicious.

The pool was almost completed and they are starting on a small private bar as well which will only enhance this property.

If you want to unplug and enjoy a truly unforgettable and unique experience....stay here. The people and surroundings make for some amazing memories.

Thank you to Ricardo, Coco, Becky and Marie for perfect stay.
