“Great Beach & facilities”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Took a taxi from the cruise terminal $20 to this lovely beach. Free access & sunbeds. Waiter service - drinks reasonably priced at $7 for a margarita (had 2 each !). Juices for the grandson.
Taxi back no problem also $20. There were jet skis and non-motorised boats for hire but we didn't bother as grandson was having such a good time in the (warm) sea. Sand was lovely & clean. I have sensitive soles so wore beach shoes to get into the sea where the shells collect but not really necessary. Didn't try the food but saw some others eating & they said it was good.
Good way to spend the day off the ship & would definitely consider Cozumel for a holiday.

Beautiful white sandy beach with lots to do from parasailing, to jet ski's or just lying in the aquamarine water letting all your worries float away!

“Very pleasant day in Cozumel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

We chose this place as our independent cruise excursion on the recommendation of a family member. We simply walked off the International pier to the taxi stand and arranged for a $25 cab ride for four to the beach, which was about 15 minutes away. There is no entry fee for the beach. The view was very scenic. The beach was almost empty when we arrived, and never became crowded. Beach furniture lacks cushions, so it is probably a good idea to bring a plush beach towel. There are some nearby tables with shade, but you will need to be ready to order some cold beverages and/or food should you use them. It's a fair trade and of course, something you were probably planning to do if you were going to spend the day there anyway. The food is also great. Beef fajitas really hit the spot for me and they were cooked differently than the Tex-mex varieties I am used to. Be prepared to bring cash for the food, as the restaurant does not accept credit cards. We also arranged for a three location snorkeling tour, $45 per person, which you can pay by credit card. We visited an area called "El Cielo", the Columbia Reef and the Palancar reef. I think the tour took about two hours. El Cielo was mainly a sandy flat area with lots of large star fish. The Columbia reef had about 20 foot depths and excellent visibility and lots of fish, and we also encountered a large sting ray and sea turtle munching on the reef. The Palancar reef was much deeper, and had a dramatic dropoff into the ocean, but visibility had deteriorated in part due to the sky becoming slightly overcast and choppy seas. I think the Palancar reef is probably more appropriate for scuba divers, but it may have been just this day. Columbia Reef was definitely the highlight for us. Taxis were readily available when it was time to return to the cruise ship. In conclusion, for a quiet beach with good food, access to snorkeling, and value for the money, I think Playa Palancar is hard to beat.
