“Great dive for schooling Spotted Eagle Rays”
Reviewed 15 June 2013

Certainly an advanced open water dive site; due to depth and current. Just off of the north western corner of the island where the island begins to narrow. North and slightly west of the town of San Miguel and the airport, by not more than a couple of miles.
In season the magnificent and majestic Spotted Eagle Rays, with wing spans of up to 20', can be seen schooling in groups of up to 10 or 15. Great dive site and very close to town, but you must be comfortable in deep, fast, and vast open water beyond where the wall drops.

“Ripping currents, advanced scuba diving here”
Reviewed 8 September 2012

We dove San Juan Reef via a boat dive, filled with experienced scuba divers only. Currents were FAST the morning we tackled this dive; only experienced divers will be comfortable with this type of drift diving.

The only reason we did not rate this dive higher is because we were flying by so fast underwater that we did not see much except for a few turtles and jacks. Visibility was fair. This is not the type of dive to take underwater photography gear, and current here was even faster than Barracuda reef, also an advanced dive in Cozumel.
