“Great stay”
Reviewed 15 May 2014 via mobile

My boyfriend and I just returned from a wonderful stay at secrets Cozumel. The resort is beautiful, Modern yet still has the island feel the staff goes above and beyond to make sure you are enjoying your stay. Our room which was on the preferred section was one of the nicest rooms I have stayed at while vacationing, food was good they offer many different restaurant choices. We enjoyed sunsets on the roof top bar every night, took walks on the beach to sunscape swing bar which was nice also. Most of our days we relaxed by the pool and beach really enjoyed the swim up bars. They also offer diving snorkeling and other water sports right of of the hotels pier, or you can take a tour or rent a car or scooter and explore the islands beautiful beaches. We couldn't have had a better stay and can't wait to return!

A very poor example of a Secrets Resort. Even the other guess were complaining and amazed. The food was terrible, the workers did not now what the other was doing. I know of one couple how was to be staying 5 days left after 3, they were not going to stay at a All Inclusive being HUNGRY.

We had a good time at the Aura. Our room was beautiful and had an ocean view room. I liked all the options of where to spend the day at the resort. We spent time on the beach and at a couple different pools. We snorkeled right in front of the resort and did yoga on the beach. The drinks were good and the rooftop bar was very fun. The sunsets were the best.
The things that were not so good - the different levels of guests. We were actually refused service at one of the pools - I felt the bartender and waiter were very rude how they handled this. All because we paid for a different level - which I guess we didn't even realize that there were different levels. The food was just ok. We probably won't go back and these couple reasons would be why. There are a ton of all inclusive resorts and many have better food and one level of service to everyone.

Room Tip: Oceanview - worth the extra money - we could actually lay in bed and see and hear the ocean.

I really can't understand all the negative reviews, this resort was amazing. My girlfriend and I stayed from 5/3-5/10 2014 and had a GREAT time. The food was really good at all the restaurants, we always left feeling full (sometimes to full).

Now on to my favorite part of the trip, the people, we met a ton of incredibly cool fellow travelers while we were there (glad to see a lot of them came home and wrote reviews too). Beyond meeting all the great fellow guests, we got to meet and get to know amazing members of the staff.

ADRIAN (Entertainment)- Can't say enough good things about this guy, one of the coolest most sincere people I've met. Truly cares if you're having a good time, makes suggestions of spots to check out around the Island. Does an incredible job, always happy. Words don't do justice to how awesome a person he really he is....

DIEGO (or Capitan Diego)- Another really great guy, always helpful, happy. Really wants to make sure you have what you need and have a good time...

Mauricio-(Manatee Bar)- Awesome job at keeping the Caipirinhas coming...

Can't say it enough, it was the best trip I've been on, and really, the whole staff at the resort did an excellent job.

Room Tip: Try and book a Junior Swim-Up Suite, best value. Be warned though, they are at the back of the prope...

Our week here with friends really exceeded all our expectations. The four of us had been here a year and a half ago, with a disappointing experience. The management invited us back to give it another chance. It appears that Secrets has begun, and is continuing, an overall overhaul of their entire vacation experience with excellent results. We had lovely oceanview suites that were ready and clean and well stocked upon our arrival. Each day of our visit our suites were expertly and thoroughly cleaned and restocked. Martha was our suite attendant; I think Carmen was our friends' attendant.
Dining and beverages were enjoyed all week, including 24-hour room service. We particularly enjoyed the service of Diego, Pepe, Zitlaly, Marina, Mariana and Marcos. Karla took very good care of us as our pool beverage server. We also loved spending time with Mariana and Adrian from the Entertainment staff.
Both check-in and check-out went very smoothly and efficiently. On our second day, I did stop by the VIP desk to inquire regarding how to receive some nice gift certificates that we were offered during check-in (even though I was pretty certain that this was a means to encourage guests to listen to and participate in a sales event). In fact, that is exactly what it was and I was not at all pressured when I said that everyone in our group already is an owner in a vacation club, and has no interest in pursuing any other clubs.
The entire resort was attractive, well maintained or in the process of being well maintained and very clean.
We would gladly return to this resort at any time in the future.

I am currently deciding where to stay for my next trip to Cozumel. And as I browse through the different hotel options. My mind keeps bringing me back to my past experience at the Aura. As someone who is a travel writer... Who has journeyed to many tropical destinations, I know what makes a quality tropical all inclusive hotel stand out from the crowd.

But before I get to that, I must say that the scuba diving in Cozumel is the some of the best diving in the world! Whether it's wreck dives, night dives, swimming through huge coral towers, interacting with large gentle reef sharks, or floating along with giant sea turtles all while drifting easily with the underwater current. Cozumel always delivers! For the diver it is truly a magical experience for going deep.

Now back to the hotel... First off location, location, location... The Aura is located near the south tip of the Island. This area quite simply has the most beautiful coastline on the island. It is very secluded and clean and spans for miles of uncrowded pink powder sands with turquoise blue waters. Most times of the year one can easily walk a short distance and have the entire beach to themselves. So if you are someone who looking enjoy your own private piece of paradise during your vacation. You can put the Aura at the top of the list.

The hotel sits between this stunning coastline on one side and thick ancient jungle on the other. And you do need a car or scooter or bicycle to get to town. For those who want to be a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the main town you may want to look elsewhere. But from my experience it is far better to stay on the outskirts of the island in a hotel such as this if you really want to maximize your relaxation on vacation.

The main area of Cozumel, though it is a lot of fun, and is definitely good for a couple day trips or nights out on the town, is very touristy. There is a constant influx of cruise ship crowds surging in and out on several days of the week and a large part of the main town restaurants/shops have been built up to cater to the Cruisees thus creating a less authentic true Cozumel experience. For reference I think the area that the Aura is in, can be compared to Wailea in Maui. Meaning it is a world away from the more intense energies of the main areas such as Kaanapali,etc... It's far more mellow, clean and especially with the Aura it caters to a more high end clientele.

The grounds of the hotel are well designed and feel very new. A large portion of the Hotel was built in 2007 (the part with the swim up rooms and rooftop patios) and in many ways it still has that new car smell, if you know what I mean. High ceilings, spotless rooms, shiny stone floors, sparking pools, new wooden pier leading out into the ocean, cozy beach chairs, and comfortable open air restaurants/bars. The other slightly older portion of the hotel (the part with the waterslides) also feels very new and clean.

And then of course Aura guests get an all access pass to the next door sister resort The Sabor, but Sabor guest are not allowed in the Aura area. Aura guests are the VIPs on the property. This opens up the opportunity to journey over for additional restaurant, bar, entertainment and beach options. This is great, but for the most part I spend the days in the Aura. There is just a feeling in the air of relax, take it easy and enjoy.

There's 4 bars. 1) Is a medium sized thatch covered seating area with a bar just off the beach, which also serves snacks. 2) Is at the main restaurant which is just off the main lobby and overlooks the property out to the ocean. It has both an indoor and outdoor area. 3) Is up top on the roof and has epic ocean views from above. 4) Is at the nightclub that is located just across the main entry driveway slightly inland from the hotel. No views in there but there's a fun dance floor with a dj that get's the music bumping into the night, it was designed well so that the club sounds stay within the club and guests in their rooms are not disturbed. Waiters are poolside as well for drink delivery. Thus the libations are flowing pretty much anywhere you choose to wander.

The menu at the main restaurant definitely surpasses standard all inclusive meals. The ingredients are good quality and the recipes are of chef quality. And the restaurant staff is happy to adjust to your personal requests as needed. One tip here (though it is not required) is to tip... And treat your servers as friends with respect. They are very well trained and happy to please when you give them the respect they deserve.

All the staff at the resort is very warm hearted and down to earth. What I really like about them is you get the feeling that they are not just putting on an act of fake friendlyness. They are there when you need them but not over enthusiastic, smart, and well versed on any information you may need.

Daily Scooter and rental car services are available on site as well as a tour concierge.

For all you divers out there. Most of the diving companies on the island offer pick up and drop off at the aura's pier for morning dives. The hotel's location is closer to most of the best dive sites, than the main area of town is, so your boat ride times are alot shorter than diver's who get picked up downtown. You will be one of the last pickups and first drop offs on the boat each day. The entire diving experience utilizing the Aura as your home base makes for a very high class adventure. You can leisurely stroll down to the pier in the morning in your bathrobe and swim suit and step off the pier onto the boat for your high seas adventure. Then when returning step back onto the pier and enjoy the rest of you day in pure tranquil luxury eating and drinking as you like.

For those looking for something special away from the common crowds. And Especially for couples... All in All... it's a win a win. Ok that's it, I think I just convinced myself ;-)

Secrets Aura is an excellent resort. It was my first all inclusive vacation and I cannot wait to book another. When you first arrive you are greeted with a glass of champagne. The staff at this resort truly go out of their way to make sure you are completely happy. In particular, Diego at the Windows restaurant was such a sweetheart to my mother and I. He insisted on taking pictures for us by the ocean and answered any questions we had about anything. Also, Alma went out of her way to treat us as VIP members, even though we were not. There are poolside servers to bring drinks and food pretty much all day. The entertainment team has different activities scheduled throughout the day and at night. The food wasn't bad for the most part. The restaurants were definitely better than room service. There are lots of water sport activities to choose from, a lot of them are included like snorkeling and kayaking. The sister resort next door is open to go to. The room was always cleaned very well. The pools were nice, the water on the beach is super clear, but kind of rocky. I would definitely recommend Secrets Aura for a relaxing getaway.
