“great staff, friendly, clean and safe”
Reviewed 19 April 2009

I stayed in villa one at el milagro for a month, both alone, then with a friend. It was extremely reasonable, walking distance to town, (bikes provided free of charge). It is a working marina iwith 3 different apartments on the property, very safe, staffed 24 hours. It has wireless and cable tv. The english speaking staff , Jaime and Julio, will help with anything you need, be it a bag of shrimp, a golf-cart to rent for the day, or they will bbq your fish in the yucatan style for you.

We came to Isla for 7 days as part of a 2 week break in Mexico. After combing the internet for some private accomodation on the island and finding most of the good stuff booked and lots of expensive condos left we stumbled on El Milagro. Thank goodness we did. After 3 days on the island we decided against moving for the 2nd week back to the mainland. A major part of the decision was based on the fact that we loved where we were staying, and soon slipped into the relaxed atmosphere on Isla. Unfortunately, El Milagro was booked for our 2nd week so we had to move, we enjoyed the carribean side but missed the Marina.

We stayed in the penthouse apartment, it was 2 bed so we had a spare room(!). It's simply decorated and furnished but in a pretty Mexican way. The apartment had everything we needed, we only had to buy food and beer. The roof terrace was a great place sit and watch the sunset over the water. There was access to a bbq but we enjoyed eating out at the great variety of local Mexican restaurants (not the overpriced steak and italian places) so never got around to using it.

The marina is small and although there seemed to be a steady turnover of guests it was still a very peaceful place to be. The staff were friendly and very helpful although it would have helped us had we spoken more Spanish as only a couple had a good grasp of English. It offers a laundry service, free wi fi, a small beach with 4 loungers and 2 hammocks and free bicycles. There is a small shop that stocks the essentials at the front, for proper groceries head into town and the supermarket or indoor market.

The location is great, just close enough to be able to walk (15 mins) or cycle into the centre and far enough away to feel less like a tourist. Cabs are only 1.50USD if you don't have the legs. We enjoyed getting on the bikes heading out to find some really interesting places to stop and eat or have a drink and people watch, particularly towards the south end of Isla. Most guests on the island hire the golf carts which are fun but not great value unless there are 4 of you. They don't go fast but we were a bit concerned at the number of people drinking whilst driving, I guess the americans are used to doing that or maybe enjoyed the fact that they could get away with it.

Eric the owner and his staff made our holiday very simple and stress free. We hope to be back in Mexico again soon and wouldn't hesitate to spend some time relaxing at the marina. Next time I hope to make it to the mainland for more than an airport visit!

Booking in January had us searching for a new place and we were lucky to find El Milagro at the of $50 US plus 12% tax. A deal! The Villa One was a perfect size with the little porch for idly watching people and traffic on the road from a 'chair' hammock. The kitchen was adequate with necessary equipment for breakfast which we enjoyed from our chairs facing the marina, under a palapa, watching the 'boat people' begin their day. The livingroom had two sofas which could easily sleep two people but were perfect for our afternoon nap in front of the breezy window.

Among many amenities were bicycles which we rode every day. We also enjoyed the kayaks as we paddled up the lagoon to look at more marinas, winding up at Villa Vera which had the biggest boat I've ever seen, Noble House, (other than a cruise ship).

We took advantage of the 50p for a load of laundry; neatly folded when we returned in the afternoon. We also liked the bathrooms and showers located near the marina. Handy for 'potty call' when we sat out at night looking at the bobbing boats and all the lights of the marina. Handy, too, was the on-site convenience store for drinks and snacks.

The whole place is well kept and clean. The only down side was a rattly air conditioner unit which bothered me at night when I tried to sleep. Hoosband could sleep through anything! I opened the windows and with the fans and breeze, slept quite well.

We enjoyed our stay at El Milagro so much. We loved the cabana, our private patio and beach area. It was private and very clean, and the bright decor was just delightful. The entire staff, especially Jamie who manages the property when owners are not there were all so helpful, engaging, kind, gracious, attentive........etc. We will definitely go back again. The sunsets from our cabana were magnificent. We met other El Milagro guests the day after we arrived, and enjoyed catching up with them over coffee in the morning at the open air gazebo off the marina. We walked the mile to downtown almost every morning and each evening, and my husband sang with some musicians who were performing at El Patio Bar & Grille downtown. Walking, no matter the time of day or night, was very safe.
Sincerely,
Elaine Kahn

Our two families spent the week over new years at El Milago and had an amazing stay.
We rented the penthouse & the villa, both places were very comfortable and decorated with in a traditional Mexican theme.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, they through a new years party that was the highlight of our stay on the island.
The beach in front of the marina is the perfect place to spend a lazy day & the water is shallow so it was perfect for our 4 & 5 year olds.

The marina is in a great location as it is an easy walk to town but you are far enough away to enjoy a spectacular sunset in peace.
One of the islands best snorkelling spots is a 15 minute kayak ride away & the marina lets you use their kayaks for free.

We will be back to El Milagro as the owners & staff have really figured out how to provide great service and comfortable accommodations at a reasonable price.

We have been to Isla Mujeres 4 times prior to this trip and stayed in two other apartments. Without a doubt, El Milagro Marina and Villas is the best. We stayed in the Penthouse. The kitchen is better equipted than any I have we've rented anywhere! "Clean" doesn't describe it well enough! I mean clean! The property itself is unique. Lots of well cared for open space, lawns and their beach is raked clean every morning! The bathrooms by the marina and beach were also immaculate! The office palapa where I used the free WiFi is the gathering place for the people living in the marina as well as the 3 units. Jaimie, the property caretaker is one great guy! Helpful in everyway. We bought fresh fish from the fisherman who come into the property just north of the El Milagro. Julio, the other man on staff at the property cleaned the fish and filleted for us. He and Jaime make sure everything is perfect and it is. Looking forward to a months stay at El Milagro!

My family stayed at El Milagro over Christmas and New Year's and fell in love with this place! The staff could not have been more accommodating. All we needed was right there for us - kayaks, ping pong, bicycles, swimming, and a small private beach to relax on. It was away from the busy downtown, yet not too far out (we could walk to the restaurant/downtown area). The owner, Eric, and his family were there at the time and made us feel welcome in every way - he even took our family out on kayaks and showed us around the bay. It was obvious that he works hard to keep the villas and marina up to date and in top shape. Nothing was in disarray or needed repairing, and everything was very clean. We are returning to El Milagro this spring and plan to make it a regular vacation destination.
