“Great lunch spot”
Reviewed 13 December 2013 via mobile

My husband and I love eating lunch and/or having drinks here while on vacation. The atmosphere is great and the bartenders are very friendly and attentive. The food is excellent. The shrimp ceviche is my favorite. My husband also tried their crispy tacos and loved them, too. We will definitely be back!

I think I have found my place on the planet.

A palapa thatched hut, with a central bar. 15 or so stools surround it, but get in early if you want to grab one. This place has regulars.

A cool older crowd who like a drink or two.

To one side a small plunge pool, to the other a small set of a scrap of beach should you choose to arrive in a boat. The dock on the bay is just made for sitting on.

Languid dogs lounge around. Too hot to do much else. I heard them referred to as the Soggy Doggies, Certainly they are way to laid back to do anything about the family of Iguanas who prowl the garden.

Pretty much immune to humans they walk through the bar at will, scrounging scraps in the same way cats do in other bars in the Isla.

It was Thursday so that meant burger day. They have a barrel BBQ set up by the plunge pool. 1/2 lb Burger $79mex. $135 for a double. Great Jalapenos.Huge, beware. This is slow food, grab a XX or Michelada & wait. It's worth it. They have a sign on the menu that they don't do the food to go, so settle back

Service by a bunch of super cool vatos. Very funny guys. They will laugh with you, but will also laugh at you if they get the chance.

They play both types of music, Country & Western. What more could you want?

A little outside the town, but not enough to put you off. We cycled down. Sally the proprietor made a point of coming over & introducing herself. A nice touch.

Be warned the place is a little hard to find. Maybe that is a good thing.

Room Tip: Didn't stay here, but it looked cozy.

This became our new favorite spot on the island after just our first visit. The guys who work there are funny, ornery, and friendly. They remember your names and what you drink. The food is outstanding. No need to scratch your head looking at a menu full of choices, here is a different special each night. And everyone has their favorite. Mine was Lobster Tacos of course. But crispy taco night pulled a close second. I cannot wait till my return to Isla and to pop into soggy peso to see my friends, Gustavo, Freddy, yaya, and the rest.

We finally made it to the Soggy Peso on our day trip to Isla Mujeres. It was our first and final stop of a great day on the island. We enjoyed this neat little bar tucked behind a building. The bartender was very warm and friendly and fun to talk with. Next year we will spending a week on the island and plan on becoming very familiar with this establishment.

we ran into a local that said Mondays were the best day to go.....and they were right as the only think on the menu was Lobster Tacos....delicious! Not a negative for our group, but I will warn anyone that goes to be careful with their home made 'special' margarita cocktail. I have no idea what went into the "mix" but we saw one gal walk in sober one minute and was dead drunk in 30 minutes having had only 2 drinks....not big drinks, just very potent. We didn't fair much better and were toasty quick!

Soggy Peso

Glad I was traveling without the kids, didn't realize until I got there that no one under 18 was allowed.  Stopped after touring the island to find cover from the rain.  I enjoyed the fajitas & ice cold beer.  I liked that the fajitas come with sour cream & guacamole with plenty of peppers & onions.  Great, relaxed atmosphere!

We stayed at the soggy peso feb 19 to the 22.The rooms are very comfortable. The owners Mal and Sally are very friendly and a pleasure to be around.the bar staff are all very friendly as well. this was the fourth time we have stayed there and we will return. If you want a nice relaxing time you cant beat the soggy peso, the bar closes at 8 so the noise dosnt bother the guest in are case that seemed to be the perfect time to turn in for the evening. The sun takes a lot out of you. By the way the beer is 2 dollars and I dont remember the price of the mixed drinks but they were of average price. all in all a very fair price for the atmosphere and nice people we spent are vacation with.

ISLAND TIME Located on the beautiful Bahia de Isla, The Soggy Peso --unique and full of character--is just a short distance from El Centro(the island's business district). Our waterfront view allows the visitor to check out the fishermen leaving in the mornings and returning with their catches at sunset.......sunsets that are absolutely breathtaking over a cold cerveza or a glass of wine. But we are also convenient to the white sands of North Beach and the numerous bars and restaurants on Hidalgo Street But don't forget the Soggy Peso Palapa Bar where fishermen and colorful characters of the Island alike take pride in swapping their Caribbean experiences-----some true....some not so true. And the bartender....who refuses to be outdone......has the tendency at times of being slightly more interesting than his customers. Our laid back life style at The Soggy Peso personifies that famous line in one of Jimmy Buffett's songs..."Keep it simple , Stupid".So..... Bienvenidos!!!! Parrot Heads,Yayhoos, SnubQueens, and Good Ole' Boys!!!!!!! ALMOST FORGOT!.....In keeping with our Bed & Cocktail theme, each room guest will be entitled daily to some free Bloody Marys in the morning and some free Margaritas in the afternoon! ... more   less
