“Great value, amazing views, clean and comfortable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013 via mobile

We are a young couple (late 20's) and stayed here for three nights while visiting the island. The hotel is close to the main town and main beach, punta north, but far enough away to be quiet at night. We had a sea view room on the 2nd floor and the views of the ocean from the balcony were amazing, sound of the waves crashing was great. The room was fairly basic but everything you would need, very clean and cleaned every day. He bathroom is a bit odd as it has glass windows and doors so I'd have to warn my boyfriend if I was going to the bathroom so he knew to stay on the balcony, but there was a curtain that hid most of the bathroom from view. Bed was very comfortable, air con, safety deposit box, tv although odd channels but we didn't really need it, fridge and staff were all really helpful. There is a small pool as well right by the sea, which gets the sun until mid afternoon, very clean and lots of free beds when we stayed at the beginning of the high season. Would definitely recommend it for any one looking for a clean place, right on the sea for great value for money.

We've just returned from the Rocamar after a week's vacation. The hotel's location is perfect - a few minutes' walk from the ferry, a minute to the nearest supermarket and the bars/restaurants of Hidalgo Av, and our favourite beach (opposite the Avalon Reef hotel) is a five-minute walk.

The hotel decor is sparse but the rooms are is spotless, the maids do a good job; the bathroom is also clean and modern. There was also a small fridge in our room. Some of the exterior finishes and paint is a bit patchy but hey, this is Isla! You couldn't get any closer to the sea than this, and it is nice to hear the sound of waves at night (they are more "crashing" than "lapping" especially during a storm, so be warned if you're a very light sleeper...)

On the downside the reception staff are a bit indifferent so don't expect too much, but the free morning coffee in the common area is appreciated (buy your own milk if you need it, they only have Coffee Mate!)

Room Tip: Rooms 27 and 26 on the top floor have loungers outside them, a great place to sit if the wind on the...

We stayed 5 nights at rocamar, the view from our room was ocean and ocean, a the room was spotless clean, the bed very comfortable, nice balcony with ocean view and hamock, location was ok (a bit far from the north beach). All in all, good value for money.

Room Tip: Upper rooms have better ocean view

This hotel is not fancy, but the view in the room is amazing. Almost like being on boat. I kept the doors to the balcony closed for safety at night, but I could still hear the waves. Amazing.

Overall, the hotel had everything I needed. Coffee in the morning, clean, plenty of towels, decent bed. The service was polite but impersonal and not particularly warm. The decor is very sparse, which sometimes just felt unfinished and cold.

I would stay here again though because the price was good and the location was great. In addition to the amazing views, it was very close to all the restaurants and about 1/2 mile to Playa Norte.

Be aware that while it's right on the ocean, it's not on a swimmable beach. The shoreline is rocky. I found the pool to be very pleasant, and I almost always had it to myself.

Make sure that you get one of the rooms with a view and balcony.

Room Tip: get a room with ocean view and balcony! higher up is better.

Very good hotel. I would describe it as a minimalist boutique hotel. Does not have any bells and whistles, but for the price, I have to say its an excellent choice.

Location: very good as we could walk to hidalgo (main street with restaurants, etc) and about 10-15 min walk to playa Norte where all the nicer beaches are.
Rocamar is on the water but it is not swimmable (no sand and blocked off). We enjoyed the ocean view very much and as one reviewer said, you don't even need the AC as there is a beautiful breeze. Goto Chedraui if you need anything general or specific (like a WalMart) but you'll need to cab it (approx 40-60 pesos) Cabbing anywhere on the island is very cheap.

Little conveniences: you can rent a golf cart directly at the hotel desk (I believe the rate is same as other vendors as the island standardizes this) ; water jugs to fill up your own bottle on all floors and complimentary coffee in morning; no room service but good, cheap eatery Q'Bravo next door ; complimentary beach towels at reception you can switch out daily

Service: not a 'hip' staff BUT nice and very polite if not a little shy.

Cleanliness: impeccable

Pool: good - a little small however we saw the pics before going so this was expected. Was a nice refresher when we got back from all day at the beach

Wifi: didn't work for a day, but when it did work, was at a decent strength

Guests: seemed like a good clientele, not rowdy or annoying. Mostly couples or 2-3 friends between 25-40 yrs old. Some quiet, small families as well.

Personal tip: we got mapchick maps and did the golf cart tour - was a great way to see the island and learn about places we wouldn't have tried otherwise like the turtle farm, captain dulce beach club and great restaurants.

For $70 a night, you actually get a million dollar view. Any closer to the ocean, and you'll be in it.

Rooms are clean and basic. Kind of modern. Beds are very comfortable with the crisp white sheets. Our a.c worked perfectly. Mini fridge was handy. Safe was nice to have. Hammock on the balcony was wonderful. Super quiet, always felt totally safe. Everything we asked of the concierge was provided with no problems at all. With just a 10 minute walk to north beach, we never even used the pool.

For the negatives:
Glass walled bathrooms were a little odd, but we got used to it. Definitely not for the shy. Tile in the shower needs a little refreshing, a bit grunge. Water pressure was not great. The not putting ANY toilet paper in the toilet was strange at first.

Overall, I would say it is an excellent litte hotel, and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Second floor was great.

Rocamar is a short five block walk from the ferry dock, and two short blocks from Av. Hildago where there are many restaurants, cantinas, and gift shops. The Caribbean is just yards off of your private balcony and the sounds and views are wonderful. Nice pool with plenty of lounge chairs. King size bed was very comfortable. Mini-fridge, hammock on the balcony and very good internet. It wasn't the Ritz, but it was a very good place to stay. Larger bath towels and a few additional bath amenities would have been nice. We'll go back.

Room Tip: If you don't like the sound of the surf at night, look for another hotel.
