Hotel Posada Del Mar

HI. we stayed here 2 weeks and had a deluxe room with air conditioning, tv, microwave and tiny fridge. Our room was lovely with a balcony that overlooked the beach and sea. Most of the staff were great, except Jorge was not helpful at first but warmed up to us. In the beginning we had wifi right in our room but after a week we had to go down to the office. Unfortunately we had no idea that the mardi gras was on at the end of our visit. One day it was soooo loud at the hotel with a sound system right in the bar running technopop at deafening decibels that we had to leave. Then they set up a stage in from of the hotel but it had a band, better music and we could stand it. There were large crowds in the street and in front of our hotel to the wee hours of the morning and trucks running the streets with boom boxes. Lots of partying. If you like to party, fine. If you don't want to party, the other end of the island would be better.
The hotel is very convenient to Playa Norte and all the downtown shops and restaurants. The pool is very nice and well kept and the place was wonderful for children.

Room Tip: We stayed in the new section as they have gradually developed the hotel over the years. It cost mor...

I paid extra for a "deluxe" room in which air conditioner did not work and no one ever came to fix it. Only the fan mode worked. Very weird bathroom set up. Glass panel in shower does not go to ceiling and is open for about two feet so that you can see top of person showering from the bed area, and also hear all noises and smell all smells from bathroom. Front desk was telling walk up customers room that was $90 on internet would be $150 per night.
Nice location

I loved this place. Good value, great location and with a bar and pool on site. The staff was totally friendly, I'm not sure what everyone is talking about with the unfriendly comments. Perhaps they should attempt speaking spanish in a spanish speaking country. It's respectful -just for starters. My Dad only speaks three words, & very poorly, but he tried and they laughed and encouraged him. The rooms were clean and the maid service was top notch. I would absolutely stay here again.

Me and my husband stayed here from March 1-8, 2014. When we arrived to our room (mini suite new buildiing) we noticed we had no remotes for the TV or the air conditioner. They did manage to immediately retrieve us a remote for the Air (thank god!!!!). After 2 days of continually asking the front desk for a remote for the TV they finally gave us a "generic" remote that did not match our TV...but it did turn it on. Well the TV was so snowey you could not even see the picture!!!!! We asked daily to have someone look at the cable but no one ever showed up. The guy at the front desk said cable is bad in all rooms...well why was the TV in the room next to ours clear as a bell?????? Maids were good...very good and romey keeps the pool spotless. Front desk does not care about being bothered by anyone for anything.

I booked this place from the reviews I read on many different sites. I'll rate*4 on average. The only thing is the hotel is older. But nothing could compare to everything else. My room , balcony, I saw the pool. Not a total view but good enough for me. The location location location you can rate 10, the beach is steps away. Wi-Fi on patio anytime I wanted the social network. Walking distance everywhere. Great pool, the bar and Romy terrific. I even celebrated with a piece of cake from owner last nite there. It was her son's birthday. Go and book this place. Please be kind and respectful they will treat you the same. I stayed in older section and was fine. I'd go tomorrow again.

DH and I spent five nights in February in room 120 on the first floor, rear of building in a largish room with two beds. Pluses for this were easy access to everything including the sitting area with water dispenser, short cut to Hidalgo and quick hallway hike to the front desk and WiFi. The much-vilified shower stall window in the bathroom puzzles me because you only see shoulders up. Didn't bother us a jot. Our mini fridge had a disconcerting rust stripe down the front and we, too, had to find by trial and error (and the guy with the remote) a room temp we liked: 23 was perfect. Peeps do play the stupid towel game but we can out-rise most folks and we had breakfasted and changed into swim gear before 8 so found our spot under an umbrella most days, vacating around noon each day. Except for one yobo who (briefly!) thought the world wanted to listen to his country music poolside, the time next to the pool was serene. The gardens are very pretty and an older gentle man gardener made every day pleasant with his greeting and smile. Loved Jorge at the desk---so positive and full of great advice!

Since returning home, my DH has commented at least three times how our initial response to PDM was a little negative, but we quickly grew to like it very much.

PDM will not suit you if you are a control freak who wants to boast about your accommodations. It will suit you if you know how to kick back, relax and realize that anything is the sum of all its parts. We will return!

Room Tip: Don't sweat the small stuff.

We had booked online as a budget hotel. The room (120) smelled of mold and mildew. The room had two beds but the bathroom was blocked off with a window instead of a full wall (you could see another person showering) that didn't completely go to the ceiling. The room was stuffy. We asked for reassignment of a room and they were unable to accommodate, and refused to reimburse us. They also only provided two towels, and were off-put when we asked for more (there were three of us staying). We ended up moving to a different hotel. Our friends, who were in a different room, had on-going issues with hot water availability.

It is not worth the savings.
