We just got back from a 5 night stay at Villa Rolandi. After many hours of reading posts on TripAdvisor, it was between Sun Palace in Cancun and Rolandi's...whew! Fella's if you'r trying to romance your lady...seriously...your search is over.
Most of the other posts here are pretty accurate. The place isn't perfect. The pool wasn't working the first day and they had problems with the waterfall. The meals at night, some were excellent, others ok.
One drawer in the room stuck a little, I had trouble with the TV and the music station, and the alcohol is not free or cheap. Also there was a kid in the water that looked younger than 13 and was loud for about an hour.
The ruputation of Rolandi's in Cancun is steller. Before my girlfriend and I could even make it on the boat we had 3 different people tell us how grand of a hotel it was and that we were in for a special treat.
The boat ride is very cool, until you go to town the next day and see how all the rest of the vacationers get to Isla...by ferry, by the 100's at a different dock, dumped in the middle of town, we just looked at each other and smiled.
Our private boat, after floating by a mix of quaint fishing boats, a half sunken sailboat and a few multii-million doller yachts placed us on the dock of the hotel with a bell boy and personal hotel attendant for each guest. It's like Fantasy Island. Our attendant was a Mexican beauty who spoke perfect English and greeted us with a friendly welcome.
We tried getting to Rolandi's before sunset, Airplane delays made it not happen. We arrived under the cover of night which I recommend. The hotel at night is lite magnificently, approaching from the water at night is very impressive.
Don't expect a normal check in at the front desk. We were brought to a comfortable couch and told to relax while they checked us in and we were brought champagne and cold towels and a folder for us to sign. Our attendant walked us through the hotel perks and told us to relax enjoy the champagne and when we were ready, she would show us to our room. She then proceeded to step back into the distance and wait for us until we were ready to go up. Amazing!
After showing us how the Jucuzzi worked and everthing she gave us the keys and promptly exited with a "have a great time, and your bags should be up shortly" as they bell boy strolled in with them.
The Hotel is all about romance. The grounds are lush with palm trees, flowers and vegitation. At night soft light highlights the hotel. In the room, there is a mirror by the bed (nice) and all the accent lights are on dimmer switches. The sheets are amazingly soft and the towels have a slight fragrance of flower pedals. A robe and slippers also await you. The view out the window...whooa. Some mentioned the food service is a little slow, between the ocean view of Cancun, the limited number of guests that will be eating at the same time you will be, the friendlliness of the wait staff, and the romantic lighting, you won't want dinner to go any faster than it has to. The grounds are fantastic, just like the pictures yet better when you're actually there.
The beach is small but clean, the sand is soft, the water is clear and calm, and the walk from your room is short. Great beach for swimming and relaxing. It's priviate for only hotel guests too, which is very nice.
Service doesn't stop there. We wanted to go snorkling or scuba diving, I didn't make pre-arrangements and was hoping that Rolandi's could help us out. After being being pampered for most of the week I wasn't looking forward to being thrown into a snorkeling boat with 60 other tourist. They front desk hooked us up with Pablo who spoke perfect English and was great. He took us out on a fun scuba adventure, just my girlfriend, I and three guides. We both went scuba diving for the first time and were totally catered to.
What hasn't been mentioned in other reviews is the complete package of the island experience. The hotel is the finest on the island. A few trips into town and looking at other hotels you'll realize how special you have it. During the day, take a scooter or golf cart around the island. Isla Murjeres is gorgous, small and feels like you're own private island. The scenic views are breathtaking and stretch for miles. Downtown is quaint with a mexican charm you expect to find in a romance movie, and North Beach is worthy of an ocean frolic in crystal clear shoulder deep water 200 yards off shore. You can't get this experience in Cancun...I'm not sure where you can get it but Isla Mujures is a great experience, especially when you call Villa Rolandi home.
We recomend the scooters but try both if you have a chance also keep it for the whole time you're there.
Use the free hotel Sea Kayaks to explore the water
Experience downtown one night.
Leave your glass doors open at night, the ocean is right outside and sounds fantastic.
Don't close your shades at night, the ocean view from your bed in the morning is breathtaking
You don't have to get up early to get a chair at the pool or beach, there will be one waiting when you're ready.
Eat at their new cuisine restaurant one night.
Expect to spend money on drinks and tips
Use the Rolandi taxi pick-up. When you tell drivers you're going to Isla, they can't seem to comprehend that a "private" boat is picking you up...not the ferry.
Casa O's down the street for lunch. The restaurant and ocean view is right off of a post card.
You don't have to worry about everything needing to be perfect when you're in paradise.
