“Excellent facility - very clean - great location”
Reviewed 25 March 2009

This facility is very good. We have stayed here twice, and have always been efficiently and pleasantly greeted. We love the location - you can walk to anywhere you want to go - beach, town, restaurants, etc. yet it is quiet and relaxing.
A couple of people have had complaints about hot water and toilet facilities. Please remember you are on a SMALL ISLAND and this comes with the territory. This is a small, quaint hotel owned and run by locals, not a big all-inclusive hotel run by outsiders. If there is a problem on the island, there may be a problem with this hotel. However, if you want a real island experience rather than the impersonal resort experience, you have to take the inconvenience with the ambiance.
We are going back to Mexico next year and will again stay at the Francis Arlene hotel. It simply can't be beat!

I'm not sure if I got the worst room on this property but I cannot recommend this place and feel let down by the other reviewers who recommended it. The property itself is beautiful, but the rooms are not. Our toilet didn't flush and leaked all over the bathroom, which is always fun on tile floors. Our beds (I was promised a king and was given two doubles and my complaint fell on deaf ears) had some type of waterproof barrier underneath the sheets, which was extremely annoying. Luckily we were only at the hotel for one night or I would have switched to another establishment.

I liked the location of Francis Arlene because it is not on Ave. Hidalgo where all the noisy places are. It is on Ave. Guerrero which is much calmer. The price was fine for the time of year which is the high season. It is definitely cheaper to pay in Pesos instead of dollars when you get there ($75 vs. $65 in Pesos). It was very close to municpal market and the post office. The beach was about 10 minutes or less.

I can't say enough about the service. Every day the cleaning staff would shape our towels into different designs on the bed with flower petal (a swan or a heart). They would also arrange all our things we had left strewn about in neat piles (they even put our water in the fridge).

I would not reccomend room 8 because it shares a big window with the patio. Every morning we would get woken up by people talking out there. The bed was comfy and the bathroom all functioned well.

I hope you will not spend much time in your room anyway since you are in paradise, but it is perfect for taking naps after too much sun or having a cold beer on the balcony.

We really enjoyed staying at the Hotel Francis Arlene. It had really hot water and it was very clean. The housekeeper cleaned our room at least one hour every day.

The location was the best part. There was a wonderful ocean front promenod (sp) just one block away. The public beach was three blocks. The Ferry landing was five blocks. The supermarket was two blocks \.Every evening community folks would sell yummy tacos, flan, etc etc in the city square across from the supermarket. Music was playing and you could just sit in the park and eat a lovely meal for less than $3. There is also a coffee shop next door to the hotel.

We were there four days before we discovered the roof top of the hotel. Lounge chairs, etc. The roof is a great place to get a feel for the whole island.

The island was great for riding little motorbikes, golfcarts, and going for walks. The swimming was nice at the North Beach. We never found a good place to snorkle but I am sure there must have been a place.

Again, the hotel was nice, clean, and quiet. I want to go back.

My family has stayed at the Francis Arlene several times, and we have never once been disappointed. The owners and staff are invariably friendly and helpful. The rooms are beyond clean. The hot water is hot; the linen smells good; the courtyard is charming. Jerry (owner) and desk manager (Virginia) will do anything to make your Isla stay memorable.

young lady at the desk was very nice, but older man and woman, who seemed to manage or own, were not so nice. the room was very nice, but no hot water. informed desk about problem. after awhile, they said they would move us as our side of hotel didnt have hot water. put us in another room, which was inconvenient, as we had to pack up everything and move to another side. up and down stairs. later they sent a young girl to our room to inform us that we had styopped up the commode in the first room ,as we were suppose to put "used toilet paper" into waste can, not to flush in commode!! rudely stated that that info was on a "do's and don'ts list at desk. so if you chose to stay here, prepare to wipe and place in trash can in bathroom. think ill pass!

We stayed here 3 nights in March. The owners and desk attendants speak english well. I was surprised by a page of rules and then we had to sign that we agreed to all of them. One of the rules was not to bring sand inside. This is a few blocks from the ocean. How can you avoid it? This hotel is generally clean but we've stayed in cleaner ones on the island. There's quite a bit of dust on light fixtures, tvs, fans, etc. Some of the rooms really have a musty smell. Look over the rooms because they are all so different from each other. Our first room had a plastic mattress pad that was really difficult to sleep on. The sheets were really old and thin. That room backed up to the street and we heard very loud street traffic until 1:30am each morning. There was loud music until 3:00 am. The curtains let in light so it was bright at 5:30 am. The air conditioner wouldn't shut off. The neighbor's door kept sticking so he was entering his room through his window. After complaining, the management wouldn't refund the remaining 2 nights but suggested we move to a different room. We moved to the rooftop (5 floors). It' was quieter, bigger and newer and no plastic mattress pad. The light shines in at 5:30 though and the cost is $90. With some of the rooms, the curtains are very see-thru and you can see people in bed if the lights were on. We had some windows that had no curtains. The outside, entrance, balconys and courtyard are really nice. Management tried to make our stay better after a bad first night. They have good management.
