“3 night stay at Hotel La Joya”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2014

We just spent 3 nights at the Hotel La Joya and completely enjoyed it. We arrived late in the evening and really enjoyed having dinner at the hotel. The food was wonderful and the service just right. We appreciated the service at the Hotel La Joya, especially from the managers Eric and Paula. The hotel is very intimate and very Mexican. We are spending the rest of our vacation in Cancun, and already miss the Hotel La Joya.

Room Tip: Room #1 has a wonderful view and is close to the restaurant.

This is our third visit to La Joya. It is an oasis of beauty and tranquility. The rooms are spacious and impeccably clean. The managers take care of your every request with ease and grace. One can relax by the pool surrounded by flor and fauna. The view of the ocean is spectacular, especially when you are relaxing at sunset in your hammock on your private terrace. There are only ten rooms. Make it a priority to book in advance. It books up very quickly. Most clients have returned to La Joya time and time again. The rooms have a/c, fan, t.v and a refrigerator. La Joya is situated away from the crowds, in the more remote area of this small island, only a short cab ride to town. A true delight!

We stayed at room 9 for a night and really glad we booked this place. We left with a very pleasant feeling. Will still choose them for our next stay!

The view is amazing. The Mini beach is very private, romantic and has a lot personality! The room is large, clean and comfortable. The staff is hardworking, kind and reliable. It is a place to relax and enjoy nature. It is about 80 peso by taxi from the party area, but the hotel has a restaurant and there are other restaurants around.

Great value compare to other hotels on the island. Definitely recommend!!!

Suggestions: 1. add some fruit in free breakfast.
2. Improve the wifi connection around the pool area.

I stayed at this charming hotel from Dec.25-Dec. 31st. It was a pleasure from the minute we walked down the stone steps to the office. The people were so friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was great and we had several meals poolside. Every room had a beautiful view. The pool was clean and you could walk down the stone steps to the Beautiful blue water. It was a family vacation and could not have been more perfect.
This was my first trip to Mexico, but I think I would go back to this same spot again and again. The Island had a great bohemian vibe to it and I loved visiting all the Beach clubs that dot the island.
Service was impeccable. Breakfast brought to your room every morning!!

Views were amazing. We stayed in room 7 and enjoyed our deck and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean. Rooms are big and bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant on site is good and decently priced. It's far from the main area, but quite and romantic. Tons to do around.

CONS
Either offer breakfast or don't, but don't half do it. Breakfast is toast and some juice. The coffee was brown water. You could see the bottom of the cup through it. We dumped it in the toilet. Is it really such a big deal to add some fresh fruit. They make such a big deal out of bringing breakfast to your room and it's not even a breakfast by any standard.

They say kayaks on the website. There is only one. Again, is it such a big deal to invest in 2 kayaks since you promote it. Who is on vacation by themselves.

Good stay, minor details make the hotel.

Hotel La Joya on Isla Mujeres: It is okay. I stayed in room 3, the view was AMAZING! The stairs are steep and there are no rails at the bottom were you get into the ocean. We chose here because you could snorkel right out in front. The snorkeling here is just sea grass. Not a lot to see.

The good: We arrived in the middle of a heavy rain storm. The staff checked us in 3 hours early so that I could dry off and shower. Very nice. The cook here is really good. The pool is okay. And again the view with the large wooden terrace is magical.

The not so good. The room had one outlet in the bathroom that you could use and no clock. The TV and mini fridge are old. No Microwave. The safe lock requires that you carry the key. The room key is attached to the largest holder I have ever seen, it reminded me of keys attacked to rest stop bathrooms. The air conditioner was not working correctly. And in one of our drawers was a swarm of red ants. The manager killed and cleaned all them up immediately. The deck gets really slippery when wet, I feel once. Our deck was shared, but we didn’t have neighbors so it was okay. Our door was the sliding glass door with the balcony view. The bathroom shower has little pressure and we had to mess with the nob a few times to get it to stay on shower mode. The beds were like sleeping on a table, great if you like firm, not so great if you don’t…like me. The “Free” breakfast was a glass of juice with about two pieces of toast each.

Room Tip: Room 3 had an amazing view. Decks are shared, but so large it didn't bother us.

All rooms have amazing views on the wonderful sea of punta sur.
The staff is reliable frendly and really kind.
They provide restaurant service and golf car rental. The menù is typical mexican , food is fresh and is average quality preparation. The area is quiet and relaxing , the tourist is immersed in a natural context made of great panorama, crystal sea water, iguana and hammocks and the is price strongly competitive. The weakness and flaws are related to low season food stock, they don't have always all the meals in the menu( that is preatty basic) And almost everywhere in any room youcan find small bug ,but nothing really scary.
