“Casa Roca Caribe was the perfect Honeymoon Getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2011

Casa Roca Caribe was the perfect Honeymoon getaway from my wife and myself. The hosts Jimbo & Karen were the ultimate - and exceeded our every whim! The Jimbo tour was well worth the time, and I highly reccommend it to people staying on the island ( and not only with Jimbo) as it gives a great "lay of the land". On our vacations, we tend to stay away from the highly touted resorts - and go for the relaxing, real life type place exactly like Casa Roca Caribe. If you work in a stressful environment or are looking to relax and enjoy a simpler life - Casa Roca Ciribe is for you! We will be back...

Our vacation to Casa Roco Caribe was more than we could have hoped for. Jimbo and Karen made our experience special and treated us like family. They were helpful, informative and the condo was one of the best places to stay on the island. We don't like the "hotel" scene and this was perfect. It was like we moved in and made it our home. The condo had everything we could possibly need and is located on one of the best spots on the island. Pictures cannot do this place justice. There is nothing like sitting in the hot tub listening to the ocean waves crash on the shore. The only downfall was that we couldn't stay longer.

We just returned from a fantastic trip to Isla Mujeres. Casa Roca Caribe was a fantastic place to stay, right on the water with the whole ocean crashing outside your bedroom window. Jimbo's tour was excellent and gave us a good idea of what we wanted to do while we were in Isla. The accomodations were very comfortable- loved the bed. Jimbo's right...you will sleep well here. We also appreciated how well-stocked the apartment was. Some of our favorite things were eating at the Mango Cafe, hiking down to Punta Sur, exploring on the beach, and swimming with the whale sharks ( a must!).

My family and I stayed for a week this June. Jimbo is a wonderful host and maintains a beautiful property. The patio is by far the best That I have ever had to sit and relax on. The beds are better than what I sleep on at home. The kitchen has everything you need not only to make a great meal but a cocktail as well. You are only a block away from one of the "must go" resturants Mango Cafe. In that same block is a little grocery store that has everything you need to make a great meal with mom and pop service that is lost here in the USA. We have stayed at several places on Isla as well many more in Mexico. Casa Carib is the best. They have raised the bar for service and acomadations. Hope to have the opporunity to stay there again.

We recently returned from a six-night stay on the main floor of Casa Roca Caribe. I cannot speak highly enough about how fantastic this place and its owners are. For such an affordable rate, we had almost every amenity we could have asked for and loved not feeling like another old tourist in an impersonal hotel. Let's start with the main draw -- the balcony/pool. The pictures don't even do it justice (although I will try, as others have). The pool is a good size, plenty of room to wade around while looking at the blue sea. The rest of the balcony area is big enough for about four people to sit comfortably. The master bedroom is wonderful -- I don't think I've slept so well in years. The bed is big and comfy (a surprise considering other Mexican beds I've experienced) and the sound of the waves as we went to sleep and woke up was amazing. The bathroom is a good size too and I really enjoyed the big shower area. The spacious kitchen has everything you need to cook, plus a water cooler for fresh water. The living room area is also decent, although it could get a bit uncomfortably sitting on cement couches (granted they do have cushions, but definitely something to get used to!).

The location of the house is a bit of a ways from Centro, the main tourist area on Isla, but we actually preferred the quieter, much more local vibe. The neighbors were all very kind and said hello whenever we'd pass them, and if you hear a guy on a bike yelling "panero!!", you better run outside and get some of the best bread and pastries. The house is in walking distance of a few restaurants, our favorites being Mango Cafe and Monchies, and a little store if you need some alcohol, drinks, or snacks. We even walked to Punta Sur, which isn't necessarily a quick little jaunt, but it's a nice 40 minute walk and you get to see some amazing houses. If you want to go anywhere on the island, taxis are constantly driving up and down and you can go anywhere for pretty cheap (30-60 pesos).

Jimbo and Karen are the owners of the house and live upstairs when no one is renting it. Their hospitality and kindness is unmatched -- when you stay here, you know you have owners who really care about your comfort and enjoyment. Jimbo offers tours of the island to those who want it, and it was the most informative couple hours! We learned some really neat areas and restaurants to go to and also heard some great stories. Jimbo also hooked us up with a great guy, Lorenzo, who took us out snorkeling and caught us a fish for lunch. This was a highlight of the trip for us and we wouldn't have experienced it without Jimbo's suggestion. Jimbo was beyond willing to do anything for us that would improve our stay (which wasn't even possible, because it was perfect).

I cannot say it enough -- if you're going to Isla, do yourself a favor and truly relax by staying at this hidden gem. You will not regret it, and you will be dying to go back!

Some friends and I had a wonderful eleven night stay in the upper level of Casa Roca Caribe in late March of 2011. Isla Mujeres has been a yearly vacation for us for a number of years, so we were familiar with the island. Making home base mid-island though was a first for us, quite different from the hustle and bustle down town area of El Centro we were used to. Another first was being ocean side with the continuous fresh sea breeze and constant waves rolling in just outside our window. We all were anticipating a quiet, peaceful, relaxing get-away and Casa Roca Caribe delivered just that.

Our unit had two bedrooms, two baths (one full & one 3/4), a full kitchen with additional room for dining, all connected to a large living area with a grand view of the colorful Caribbean waters through a patio door onto the rear deck. The deck itself was small, but large enough to hold a big jacuzzi tub and a couple of tables with seating for six. The unit was tastefully decorated and included a number of amenities like TV, DVD player, stereo, microwave, a safe, wi-fi, and free bottled water. Each room had a king size bed. Mine was a bit too hard for my liking, but I've found thats's typical in Mexico. We also made use of a washer & dryer available in a common area of the lower level. The owner, Jimbo was an excellent host making sure we had everything we needed and that all was in working order.

The house is located on a residential street and is surrounded by homes on all sides except the back. So though it didn't have the traffic noise of Centro, there were other sounds visitors should be aware of. These included roosters crowing, turkeys gobbling, dogs barking and street vendors calling out their arrival. Our favorite of the street vendors was the “bread man” with his fresh tasty breads and baked goods. Some great dining nearby included the Mango Cafe, the Blue Iguana and Monchies restaurant. Ronco mini super is across from the Mango Cafe, nice for picking up necessities - orange juice was a favorite of ours. Also taxi's could be easily hailed on that corner for a short ride to other island destinations.

Casa Roca Caribe allowed us to “disconnect” (no electronics except music) and totally kick back and relax. We spent much of our time reading our favorite books, searching for shells and sea glass, and sipping cocktails while solving the worlds problems over great conversation. Oh, one last thing, the sunrises were awesome!

Room Tip: Either level (lower or upper) are both great.

We were welcomed with 2 frosty glasses in the freezer and music in the background, and after a long travel day from Xcalak, well this was a perfect way to start our stay at Jimbos comfortable casa. We felt right at home, Jimbo is nearby and always available for anything you may need! You really can say he is quite the concierge, especially when it comes to eating....he knows the best restaurants on the island!

We stayed pool level, very roomy for the 2 of us! The beds were quite cozy and the giant poofy pillows, AWESOME! Not to mention the view from the bed in the morning as well as the pool! I enjoyed my breakfast poolside watching the sunrise! Ahh to be back there right now!

Thank you again Jimbo, your hospitality is the BEST! You are truly a GEM!

Cheers,

Judy and Ron
