My girlfriend and i just stayed at Media Luna and were wholly impressed. We stayed in room 2. Room 2 was a ground floor 2 double beds room. We open up our patio door and have a personal hammock. 20 feet farther is a pristine pool overlooking the waves crashing from the Caribbean. Normally when we are on Isla Mujeres we wake up and leave the hotel and head to North Beach (Chi Chi Charlies). Not this time. We will go to Hotel Playa Media Luna again!!!!

We spent a week in the king-bed room. The first thing that hits you is a strong odor of mildew when you walk into your room. The room is motel size with little furniture, no table to fit a humberger meal. The bathroom is very small, it has unclean appearance, upon closer inspection it turned out that it was clean but the tiles are chipped, scarred, scratched, etc. creating this uninviting look. There is strange sign not to throw toilet paper in the toilet, regardless if you obey it or not be prepared to flush toilet multiple times. You have to wait close to 5 min for hot water. The stuff is cordial but they use minimum amount of words, they won't tell you anything unless you ask. The bed is quite comfy and we have no complaints here. The balcony is quite nice and faces the ocean breeze. Sleeping with A/C off and window and balcony open was the highlight of this hotel since it faces constant breeze from the East. Turning A/C off solved to some degree the problem with smell of mildew. Internet is available but only in the lobby area. The general hotel hardware is shoddy and needs major renovation, I stayed last year just walking distance away in Privilege Aluxes which was in the same general price range yet it was a completely different level of quality and rooms were a lot larger. If not for its unique location this hotel would be worth a single star.

The hotel is located walking distance from the town square, and is situation right on the Caribbean. The hotel employees were very helpful. The combined pool side/ocean front rooms on the first floor is a wonderful combination. The island itself provides a comfortable atmosphere where you feel safe to walk around at night (or ride a golf cart). The town center is authentic, and the vendors are not as aggressive as other parts of Mexico (this was my 5th trip). For a slower paced get-away, Isla Mujeres is the place to go and the Playa La Media Luna hotel is a wonderful choice.

As locations go on Isla Mujeres, Playa la Media Luna is almost as good as it gets. Only the Avalon in my opinion is in a better location since it is essentially on its own little isolated "island" just across from Playa la Media Luna (PLML).

For me this was just a quick stop over on the way to Cozumel for an extended scuba diving trip so I chose to go cheap. There are mostly very nice rooms at PLML but for the real budget minded, they have at least 2 budget rooms that are separate from the main building. I paid a mere $35 per night total (price changes based on season). For me, it was adequate but for those that want luxury, do not book these low priced rooms.

The staff was accommodating when I asked if my checkout could be delayed by an hour. The pool is small but it was clean and looks right out over the Caribbean sea so it was very nice to cool off in during the hot afternoon.

I would stay at PLML again in the future.
