“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed 29 December 2012

We checked into Playa Media Luna thinking we had reserved a room for 4 nights. I must have never confirmed our reservation, but no worries the front desk attendant had the room type we wanted for that time so it worked out. Every staff memeber we enountered was very friendly. I got the feeling it was family operated. We were in room 16 upstairs at the end of the walkway with a king bed and hot tub on our balcony. The room was spacious with a large mini-fridge which held our beer, water and leftovers perfectly. Being able to look right out onto the beach and seeing the sun rise in the morning was absolutely lovely. The resort was fairly quiet, although I did hear the dogs another reviewer mentioned barking but it didn't really bother me as we weren't in the room much during the day. The only complaint I might have is the pool was absolutely freezing and the pool bar didn't seem to be operational. This didn't really bother us though, as we were on the boat ddiving basically everyday and we enjoyed the ocean much more than the pool. Breakfast in the morning was attended by a very nice lady who supplemented items when they ran out. It was fairly basic but gave you what you needed to get on with your day. Coffee, juice, bread, cereal, freshly cut fruit and some sweet breads was what was available. We felt very safe leaving our golf cart unlocked outside the hotel. Noone is allowed in after 10pm without a wristband. Considering the price we paid, I was extremely satisfied with our stay and would return the next time we are in town.

Room Tip: There are room selections for every budget.

We are low maintenance travelers and we honestly loved this hotel. We'd definitely return. If you are looking for a modern, luxury resort it may not be your scene - but if you are looking for a comfortable low key beach hotel with amazing views, a nice pool for lounging, and easy access to all the more populated beaches and restaurants on Isla, this is perfection.

We loved sitting by the pool overlooking the amazing beach. There was not really a bar at the pool (though at one point they were serving upon request), so we just bought our own beer at a corner store, which was much cheaper anyway. There is a fridge in your room. We had a king room and it was clean and comfortable.

The only things we'd improve upon were the included continental breakfast, which was minimal and didn't look that appealing (we did take advantage one day of our stay, but other days walked to town), and the wireless internet which did not work in our room.

Easy walk to town, and we felt safe even late at night. We spent one day at a beach club on Playa Norte for a more lively experience. We rented a golf cart right from the front desk. Overall, this was a fantastic home base for exploring Isla.

We recently stayed at Playa Media Luna. The resort is quaint and very nice. Most rooms are ocean view. The location is excellent being a five minute walk to town and to all of the tasty restaurants. Our room was clean and decorated very tastefully. The front desk is helpful with any questions, but do not seem to speak much English. Although we did not stay at the resort all of the time, when we did, we were disappointed by the sound of barking dogs at a residence next door. This seemed to be non stop during the day and every so often the dogs seemed to be growling and biting at each other. This was a disruption to the peace and relaxtion that we were hoping for as we wanted to hear the roll of the waves, birds, or other peaceful sounds while watching the ocean.

Room Tip: Most rooms are ocean view, so you will be pleased.

As Mike F wrote ...... it IS a beautiful location and view, right on the north-east corner of the island. Right around the corner (walking distance along the beach) is Playa del Norte. Close to town, many good restaurants to try and going around the island by golf-cart is a fun experience in itself. Stayed on the island for a week, very relaxing and quiet at the hotel but the town area still busy after the day-trippers have left.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room looking right across the water to watch the sun rise. All rooms above had...

My girlfriend and i just stayed at Media Luna and were wholly impressed. We stayed in room 2. Room 2 was a ground floor 2 double beds room. We open up our patio door and have a personal hammock. 20 feet farther is a pristine pool overlooking the waves crashing from the Caribbean. Normally when we are on Isla Mujeres we wake up and leave the hotel and head to North Beach (Chi Chi Charlies). Not this time. We will go to Hotel Playa Media Luna again!!!!

We spent a week in the king-bed room. The first thing that hits you is a strong odor of mildew when you walk into your room. The room is motel size with little furniture, no table to fit a humberger meal. The bathroom is very small, it has unclean appearance, upon closer inspection it turned out that it was clean but the tiles are chipped, scarred, scratched, etc. creating this uninviting look. There is strange sign not to throw toilet paper in the toilet, regardless if you obey it or not be prepared to flush toilet multiple times. You have to wait close to 5 min for hot water. The stuff is cordial but they use minimum amount of words, they won't tell you anything unless you ask. The bed is quite comfy and we have no complaints here. The balcony is quite nice and faces the ocean breeze. Sleeping with A/C off and window and balcony open was the highlight of this hotel since it faces constant breeze from the East. Turning A/C off solved to some degree the problem with smell of mildew. Internet is available but only in the lobby area. The general hotel hardware is shoddy and needs major renovation, I stayed last year just walking distance away in Privilege Aluxes which was in the same general price range yet it was a completely different level of quality and rooms were a lot larger. If not for its unique location this hotel would be worth a single star.

The hotel is located walking distance from the town square, and is situation right on the Caribbean. The hotel employees were very helpful. The combined pool side/ocean front rooms on the first floor is a wonderful combination. The island itself provides a comfortable atmosphere where you feel safe to walk around at night (or ride a golf cart). The town center is authentic, and the vendors are not as aggressive as other parts of Mexico (this was my 5th trip). For a slower paced get-away, Isla Mujeres is the place to go and the Playa La Media Luna hotel is a wonderful choice.
