Walking in the lobby, you could see the ocean right away! We stayed in the standard room for 2 nights and those were simple and very comfortable. Then for 3 nights we stayed in the Jacuzzi Suite on the third floor on the north side of the hotel. The view was incredible from that room and the large balcony! Every room had a great view and comfortable hammocks on every porch. Its located just a couple blocks from everything, so you could walk everywhere in the downtown area. Overall I would definitely go back, I loved it there. We got married there on Saturday Sept. 4th, and it was absolutely perfect. The location was great for the wedding and since the beach is pretty much private, it was very intimate. If anyone is looking to have a destination wedding they should definitely do it at Playa Media. And the wedding cordinator Maria and her sister Kin were wonderful, the wedding was everything we dreamed of and more!

My husband and I stayed at Hotel la Playa de Media Luna because a lot of the reviews noting how laid back and relaxing it was. Everything about it was just okay: the room, the service, the pool, the cleanliness, the location, etc. I did feel that the hotel website gave an inaccurate portrayal of what the hotel actually looks like and includes. We didn't have a bad experience, but I was hoping to be wowed and I wasn't. The pool view was nice, however you can't swim on the beach due to the rocks. The good thing is that Playa Norte is within walking distance and that was great! Do not count on the breakfast; it is literally the same bread, cantelope, mango, juice and muffins everyday. Don't expect a good bar at the hotel, sometimes there is a bar tender there, but it's pretty rare. They did exchange American dollars and travelers checks for us at a good rate for the island and that was really nice. Also, it is a small hotel, so we were often hanging out in the pool by ourselves, which was cool! Needless to say, I do wish we would have spent a little more and stayed down the street, but we did have a great trip overall! I said I would recommend this because we didn't have a bad experience or issue, but I would really recommend looking at other hotels if you are looking for a more honeymoon type trip.

You can't beat the location. Walk along the beach just 3 minutes and you are on North Beach with restaurants and beachside bars, and it's a very short walk to the heart of town. The beach in front of the hotel is good for walking, but not for swimming. You don't need it though, since the pool is on the beach - we were poolside hearing and enjoying the ocean. There are lawn chairs to use on the beach - but no attendants or charge. The poolside bar was open at times, but the hours were unpredictable. They had a food menu, but no kitchen - they brought the food in the front door on a huge tray. So don't count on food since the bar was unpredictable. The refrigerator in the room was awesome. Looking at the photos in the slideshow, the only thing misleading was the poolside massage and the poolside breakfast. Our room wasn't as bright and sparkly as the one in the photos, but it was very clean with a new bathroom. It was a quiet hotel, not a full service hotel with lots of staff. The front desk was very helpful. It was perfect for us - we spent tons of time poolside and were so relaxed we would definitely go back.

The Good: Excellent view, good location.
The Bad: Construction. The workers seemed annoyed everytime they had to stop what they were doing in order to allow us to get to the hotel in our golf cart. This is part of life but I would recommend asking if this road construction is completed prior to getting a room.
The Ugly: Nothing really. The breakfast wasn't very good but we just went somewhere else to eat.
If you want a quiet place to stay with an excellent view then this hotel is for you. If you are not staying in a room with an ocean view then I would say NO POINT IN STAYING HERE!!!

We stayed at Playa la Media Luna about five years ago and wanted to return again for our vacation this year. Especially with the $40 per night rate that the hotel has on its Rusticas Rocas rooms. They don't have a beach view, but you just can't beat $40 per night. The hotel is wonderful. It's quiet, never crowded (at least we've never seen it crowded), and not a bad stroll from shops and restaurants and anything else you might want to do.

Now for my warning.... the hotel's website and all literature that we found indicated a 10% discount off of your stay if you pay in cash. We verified this upon our arrival and check-in. Upon attempting to pay the day prior to our departure, we were informed by the hotels extremely rude front desk guy (I can't remember his name, but he's the only one that's ever there) that the discount only applies to the "more expensive" rooms. When I showed him all of our documentation and reminded him of our conversation upon our check-in, he simply said something to the effect of "Well I will just charge the room to your credit card." He then walked back into his office and proceeded to attempt to do so without another word being said. I was forced to give in to his refusal to honor the hotel's stated discount in order to avoid him putting the room on our card and then having to pay the cards interest rate. Granted, we would have saved only $28, but we were counting on that cash for travelling back to Texas..... and it's the principle of the matter. THEY GAVE US THE SHAFT. I'm glad that we weren't staying during the high season. They claim that you'll get a 40% discount by paying with cash. NOWHERE DOES IT INDICATE THAT THE DISCOUNTS ONLY APPLY TO THE HIGHER-PRICED ROOMS!

In general, the hotel is great and we will probably return. But the man that works the front desk is a jerk. In speaking with other hotel guests during out stay as well as friends that have stayed there, they all agree in our assessment of the man's character. Don't plan on getting any discounts.

You can also rent a golf cart and book a whale shark trip cheaper by going into town instead of letting the hotel set it up for you.

We stayed in the Rustic Roca room #2 for four nights. I chose Playa La Media Luna because we were on a tight budget and because of it's location. It is located on a dirt road in a very quiet area approximately 1/4 mile from Hidalgo street. The room was simple and clean with working AC, safe deposit box, fridge and a loud, wobbly fan. We were able to get hot water in the shower once we figured out that we needed to let it run for 3-4 minutes with the cold water off completely. The pool and beach area are nice but the shade hits the pool early afternoon. The service at the front desk was OK. They did not go out of their way to be extra helpful. Mosquitos were a problem in the evening so be sure to pack a good repellent. I would recommend this hotel.
