“Great hostal except for staff”
Reviewed 17 May 2012

Spent 3 nights here with some friends and we had a great time. I was initially concerned by some of the poor reviews on here but people should be aware that it is a hostal and they should not expect hotel-style amenities. Nevertheless, the staff were quite rude at times which slightly spoiled the stay for me. Other than that, good location, good rooms and a decent bar - what more could you need?

I know most people in all the reviews on this hostel harps on about the rudeness of staff at this hostel and that is partly true, but that would be the only truly tragic aspect of the hostel for mine. I found them to be a real mixed bad - Some of the staff were quite nice and accommodating but some were incredibly rude.
I am not trying to stick up for these inhospitable people, but I am saying that if you look beyond them, this hostel is actually very good.

The location is good - On the beach, albeit a non-swimmable one. However, the best beach on the island is a mere 5 minutes walk away & anyone who says it is more must have severe navigation issues.

The hostel itself is quite good with decent meals, a few free daily activities and nightly bands on offer. The music is cut before midnight and half of the hostel is blocked off from the music area anyway.

There is a huge outdoor area full of hammocks on the sand where you can laze amongst the place trees and snooze the day away.

The only other downer was that the rooms were quite stuffy.

All in all, it would be a shame to miss this hostel & it's vibe just for the sake of a rude few.

Only 5 minute walk to the beach (you can't swim at the beach the hostel is on as it's all rocks) one of the beat beaches I've been to. Rooms are very simple & toilets weren't cleaned enough. Bar & restaurant were cheap. Live music every night. Breakfast was just toast & coffee. Staff were disinterested & a bit rude, so don't expect any help. Pool table & Table tennis but you have to pay. Large hostel with lots of people.

Stayed here a night found out they had bed bugs and knew about them and didn't do anything about it. Wouldn't give us a discount or refund so we could go some wear else. 6 room currently have bed bugs. Staff dissed a friend of mine, budged in lines, and would throw down there food and exclaim WHAT before asking a question or ignore you whale they checked their facebook for 5minutes. Needless to say I would not come back.

I only gave one "star" because I had to put something...my experience on Poc Na was terrible. First of all, the beds in the dorms are disgusting, i was scared to get infested with bed bugs. The "en suite" bathroom consists of a separate toilet which is tiny and not very clean, the same goes for the shower. People are running in and out of the dorms all night long and take no note about the fact that there are people trying to sleep. After a sleepless night due to a guy with particularly enthusiastic snoring, I decided to move somewhere else. As I approached the receptionist, she waved her hand at me and told me to wait 5 minutes while she continued to chat to the other receptionist. I told her that i just wanted to move out and she told me quite rudly that -"check out is at 12!! and I would have to wait" obviously she's never been trained in customer service... This is a place I would never go back to and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone

Room Tip: spend a little bit more and go to a hotel where they value your custom

We got to poc-na without a reservation, which is usually what backpacking is about, and this is a hostel. We ended up having to wait 3 hours to check in and then spent the next 2 days moving room to room to room. We were not able to stay in the room we had or book another private room for the next days. After 3 night of moving they put us in one of there most expensive rooms, advertising private room with aircon and private bathroom. The air con did not work, there was only one small window, and it was above the kitchen so heat rises and basicaly it was an exspensive sauna. This is the second time ive stayed here in the last 2 years and both times the people seem really clicky. The staff all stay together and do not socialize or make you feel welcome. The staff is very rude, unhelpfull, and all around usless. If you plan to stay here come in a large group, book the place out, pay in advance and party it up. The place has a great location and goood food, when they dont run out of things on the menu. This place advertises a few freebees but as usual its not as good as it seems. You get a free drink but only after 11pm. You get a free "breakfast", or more correctly a cup of coffee and some toast with jam or honey. All around not impressed and will not be returning

Room Tip: stay somewhere else
