After much research, we chose to stay at Villa las Brisas (VLB) and we were not disappointed. The setting is gorgeous, the rooms are clean, and the location was perfect for an adult-only get away. Falling asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the rocks below was so relaxing and soothing. Waking up to the sunrise over the turquiose Caribbean was the perfect way to start the day...along with Curtis' tasty breakfasts! Request the Enchiladas Suizas or the smoked pork chops!

After a long day on the beach or snorkeling, it was a pleasure to return to VLB for a fantastic Pina Colada, a dip in the pool and some relaxation and reading in the comfy hammocks. The breeze is always blowing, so even when it got too hot elsewhere on the island, VLB was always breezy and cooler.

VLB is a wonderful choice in Isla Mujeres. Although it is a few minutes out of town, getting a taxi was always very easy.

The only thing (very minor) I would change is the continual loop of the same music...but as soon as we asked for something different, our request was granted.

Whatever you do, listen to Curtis when he tells you where to eat! He was never wrong. Our week at VLB was remarkable. It was so easy to realx in this beautiful location. The breakfasts were great, the Pina coladas amazing, the view lovely. We had so much fun climbing down to find shells, walking down through the neighborhood to "Baseball Tacos" and enjoying fresh seafood at Restaurant Velazquez in town. Curtis and Ashley were friendly, our room was clean, the showerhead was really neat. I particularly enjoyed the hammocks. It was chilly the week we were there so we only swam twice (us crazy Minnesotans!) but the pool was really nice. All in all, it was awesome, we will definetly try to get back!

We did not stay at the Villa Las Brisas. We did stop by however and I have to comment on what a wonderful little place it is.

First of all their reputation for having the best pina coladas on the island is well deserved. Second the hotel actually surpasses what I expected from the pictures on the website. I have traveled extensively and in my opinion that is a rarity. Curtis gave us a little tour and the pictures do not do the Palapa Suites justice at all. These rooms are beautiful especially if you are looking for unique true island experience.

Curtis and Ashley are both friendly and helpful as is the rest of the staff. The bar is very popular as a stop off on the way to Punta Sur or retrurning back to town. Curtis took the time out to give us a map and point out a few of his suggestions for restaurants and attractions.

The beach like the others on this side of the island is not swimmable, but the views are breathtaking. We returned again the next day because we enjoyed the pina coladas and the company so much. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and we hope to stay there in the future.

We stayed at VLB from December 11th to the 13th, 2005 over a month past Wilma. We had heard reports of massive damage, exodus of tourists, hellfire and brimstone... Yes, there are still parts of Isla that are damaged. Yes, there are people out repairing and banging away and generating piles of debris. These are the sights and sounds of progress, if you ask us. Any other place in the world would do the same thing. We LIKE places like this -- it feels like a REAL community versus an isolated all-inclusive.

Curtis greeted us with Pinas and proceeded to show us our room (the honeymoon suite). Get this room if you can! It Rocks! Hammock, lounge chairs on a separate balcony, two thick wooden chairs on the balcony facing the ocean, nice bed, beautiful colors, a conch shell shower head, and the best part - the breeze! No AC nor ceiling fan required. Open your doors and let the breeze do all the work. If I didn't have to eat and use the bathroom on occasion, I would have spent all my time in that hammock!

Curtis was very attentive in getting us our golf cart and suggesting places to eat and hang out and answered every question we asked without delay. We felt very well looked-after.

We wished we had tried to snorkel with Cpt. Tony, but we were slack (that hammock, again!) and we foolishly tried Garaffon, which was closed. So, we ate some ceviche and drank a beer instead. We will return for snorkeling next year. I broke in my gear in the pool!

The breakfasts. My oh my. Smoked Mexican pork-chop for breakfast with fresh fruit and plantains. Next day, Curtis made us a chicken enchilada -- awesome (I forget its real name).

VLB's staff is great as well. Every question or request answered or addressed promptly. Groundskeeper kept the place looking sharp every day and the pool free of any debris.

The best part of our visit was the golf cart - we loved this thing. Puttering around the island up and down back and forth -- we actually had the poor guy from El Sol ride out with some more gas to keep us moving! I didn't mind waiting for him in the waning sunlight, with my back to the ocean and its breeze, watching folks go about getting home for the evening.

We loved the road along the coast down to Punta Sur! That was the best drive of them all. We left it for last and felt like we were discovering something new, especially when we found the Ixel temple. Very cool.

Our last night we were treated to the moon reflecting off the ocean and the incoming waves. Bright enough to take a picture with our camera phone. We are still talking about that image.

Our dream Isla vaca for next year will be a week at VLB, 4-5 days of snorkeling, Curtis' breakfasts, meeting Ashley (we didn't get to tell her how impressed we were!), and the golf cart the entire week (so, it's $60 a day, yes, but it's so worth it). Maybe even a fishing trip and ceviche on-board as it's meant to be!

Don't miss VLB!

We were lucky enough to spend five nights at Villa las Brisas. It is an absolutely wonderful place to stay. The staff is fantastic, and Curtis and Ashley couldn't be nicer. They made us feel totally welcome and comfortable. Truly, when the time came, we were sad to leave. The care put into this place is truly amazing. Every detail has been attended to. The lighting was so great that you weren't so sad to see the sun go down.

As the other guests had cancelled because of the hurricane, we had the house to ourselves. It was beautiful, peaceful and tranquil. We spent much of our time in the hammocks by the pool and in the swings at the bar. Our big breakfast every morning was incredible, and it gave us the freedom to enjoy our days without constantly having to worry about where we were going to eat. Like many of the other reviewers, we too had "baseball tacos" for dinner several nights of our trip. They are just a quick walk from your room and they are addicting. It was also nice to have a meal not seated among a crowd of tourists.

We stayed in Palapa #1 and absolutley loved it. The new shutters opened up to allow in the not only the breeze, but the constant sounds of the waves crashing into the beach below. The swinging bed was also amazing.

Although Cancun continues to show significant signs of the hurricane, things are much better over at Isla Mujeres. The beaches were great, the diving was excellent, and Curtis and Ashley have Villa las Brisas back in perfect condition.

We are fortunate to travel quite a bit, and we have stayed in few hotels/B&Bs that we like as much as Villa las Brisas.

Villa Las Brisas is an amazing get away, tucked away from the downtown area of Isla Mujeres. The hospitality provided by Curtis and Ashley (the owners) was more than we could have asked for. Our room was clean and tidy, with a creative "beach-like" theme. We opted for an enclosed room with air conditioning, on the bottom level and are glad we did so because of the hot temperatures during our stay. This bed and breakfast offers amazing breakfasts which have made me dream about the conche pastries served! Downtown and the popular beaches are only a 3 min. taxi ride from the hotel and is where we spent most of our days. I would recommend Villa Las Brisas to any couple who is looking to spend time with each and is not interested in the hustle and bustle that comes along with large chain hotels. The nights are very quite and we were regularly in bed by 10pm so if youre looking for a wild atmosphere you will not enjoy this hotel. I can't think of any negatives about this place or bad experiences, overall I would rate this hotel excellent!!!

This is a great choice for Isla Mujeres. It is well taken care of, very stylish and a great place to relax. The bar is the best on the island. It's a place that we wanted to hang out at all night...but beware, last call is 10:30 and quiet hours start at 11:00, so if you're looking for a place to party all night long, this is not it. The bar is really great, cool murals, great music, beautiful lighting, cozy hammocks and killer margs and pina colladas, we did try to encourage Curtis (the owner) to let us hang out even longer there at least one night, but he wouldn't go for it - the quiet hours are very strict.

The beach here is pretty - but is a bit littered with trash (as are most Mexican beaches that are not right near a major hotel) and is not the best for sun bathing or swimming. It's a fairly serious climb down large rocks to get to the white sand. It's easy to do if you're young and healthy, but could be a challenge if you have trouble getting around. There were some locals swimming there, but for the most part the water is fairly rough and there are very large rocks in the cove - so we never got up the courage to go in. Curtis did say that the water gets very calm in the summer and you can actually snorkel there, but we were there just after a large storm, so the waves were big and unswimmable.

If beach is your number one concern, either stay at Na Balam (the best beach on the island is there, you can walk out in gorgeous turquoise water for at least a half mile) or stay here and plan to take a taxi to Na Balam each day. A taxi to Na Balam is $1 - $2 and you can rent chairs or a beach bed for about $10 a day.

Na Balam had a great beach, but the facilities looked a little run down, so really Villa Las Brisas is a great choice since the rooms, bar and owners are fantastic.

Breakfast is the only meal served here, although the bar is open all day. It is a little remote to many lunch places, so if you want to hang around the property all day and enjoy the pool and beach, ask Curtis and Ashley about ordering food in. They were very accommodating to us, they ordered chicken from a great Yucatan BBQ place, they ordered sandwiches one day from a place that doesn't normally deliver and they ordered pizza without any problems.

We will certainly be back!
