We have been coming here for the past four years and wouldn't consider staying anyplace else. I don't know who wrote the previous review but they obviously have never been there. The place is spotless and the breakfasts are delightful !! My complements to the owners !!

My wife and I stayed two nights at Villa La Bella on the way to a longer vacation on the incredible beaches of Tulum. While the superior seascape and slower pace made us happy to have scheduled more time in Tulum, the hospitality shown by Ashley and Curtis will bring us back to their hotel.

Their meticulously landscaped grounds and ocean view would have made any meal a positive experience, but Curtis' skill in the kitchen made Sunday breakfast our first morning unforgettable (perfectly cooked chorizo and fresh island egg lasagna with a fresh fruit garnish). Even better, he sized us up within minutes of our arrival and recommended an off-the-beaten-track, eight-table Cuban restaurant (El Varadero) which - while likely not so attractive to the average vacationing American in search of the "in" restaurants in touristy parts of the island - was spot-on for my wife and I, intermediate Spanish speakers looking to interact with locals and get a true taste of local cuisine (Cuba is less than 100 miles away from this hotel, a sign on the hotel grounds tells guests). Great recommendations, friendly hospitality and cooking aside, what Ashley and Curtis have done with the space is really what makes Villa la Bella special. Whether it's eating breakfast at large, comfortable shaded tables with other guests overlooking the rocky coastline or coming home for drinks at the hotel bar and hanging out in the stylishly-decorated outdoor living room with couches and lanterns and a romantic view of the blue-lit pool and hot tub, this hotel is truly a great place to just hang out and relax. Some may want to be closer to the shops and action of the island's north beach, but a quick, cheap taxi ride means all of that bustle is only 10 minutes away. We walked to the north end on our first morning, an easy hour-long ramble that afforded more time to pop into local shops and get acquainted with how the locals live.

When we left, Ashley and Curtis again displayed their practiced personal touch, dishing out hugs and advice about Tulum as they ushered us into our waiting taxi along with a gracious "We're sorry you're leaving us, but we're really happy for you that you still have a week in Mexico!" As a frequent traveler I can say you should go straight to Villa la Bella if you ever visit Isla, you won't find a better experience or a better way to quickly acclimate to the less-hurried Carribean lifestyle.

We've spent out last 7 winter vacations at Villa La Bella -- obviously we love the place. It's located on the most beautiful spot on Isla Mujeres -- you've never experienced a sunrise like you will in the Honeymoon Suite in VLB. Curtis and Ashley are the perfect host and hostess and will treat you like family -- no better -- than family. Heck, by now, we ARE family. I can't say enough about this beautiful resort. What a find. Go experience it for yourself. You'll never regret it. Sheri and Garry from Kansas City

We love this place! This was our second visit to VLB and won't be our last. This time we stayed in one of the palapa suites, which we highly recommend...the room was beautiful and the breeze and sound of the waves was great. Ashley and Curtis have really put a lot of thought and care into making every inch of VLB unique and comfortable...pictures can't do this place justice...from the sea shell showerheads to the smallest shelll decorations around the pool and bar. Ashley and Curtis are great hosts -- restaurant recommendations and other practical tips have always been spot on -- and breakfast and drinks are awesome. Perhaps the best Pina Coladas and Margeritas on Isla Mujeres can be found at VLB's bar. A great place overall. Kristen & Dan

Villa La Bella is the most beautiful, relaxing B&B ever! The only views are of the ocean as if you are the only people on the island. The photos are lovely but once we got there it exceeded our expectations. It is quiet and the ambiance and attention to detail throughout the property is impressive. It is located away from the busy part of the island which was wonderful—we went out during the day or night and felt like we were coming home to our peaceful little retreat. Ashley and Curtis and their staff (thanks Ernesto!) were very friendly and helpful. They recommended great restaurants and places to go. Oh and the breakfasts were delicious! We rented bicycles for the week and easily got where ever we wanted to go. The bar is open to the public (adults only) and everyone who came in to get an ice cold beer said 'I wish WE were staying here!' We highly recommend it and would absolutely return!
