In Murejes for a wedding at Privilege and my husband and I moved to Hotel Secreto for privacy and a more intimate location the last 6 days of our visit. Hotel Secreto met all our expectations! Service was A+ and the drinks, accommodations, and the view to the gorgeous turquoise ocean were more than we ever dreamed! Alfredo and Victor are the best. Alfredo...I so miss your killer Mojitos!

Everyone at the hotel did whatever we asked to make our stay a memorable event.

Went to Isla with my wife and bunch of friends for a wedding and loved the island in every way! From the nice locals, authentic food and seedy street vendors, to the beautiful sunsets, fun downtown hangouts and cool excursions around the island, it really is a great place to go for a real Mexican vacation experience.
Hotel Secreto is the perfect escape from a busy work life, as well as the perfect setting for friends to hang out all day and have a great time. We honestly sat around the pool reading, drinking, and goofing off for about 3 days straight and never had a dull moment.
The view from the pool and hotub is incredible, watching the sea spray hit the rocks from a hottub or pool never gets old....and if it does, you are about a 3 minute walk from being in the heart of downtown. The hottub is a perfect late night meeting spot too for the perfect finish to the day.
The service was incredible, Victor and Alfredo are amazing, they learn your names, appreciated my weak attempt at speaking spanish and are willing to do anything to make your stay better, and even climbed trees so that we could all have fresh Coconut water.....at their suggestion!
I would suggest this hotel to anyone looking for an amazing vacation in Mexico, and would return without question...Enjoy!!

We sought out Isla for its low key style and hotel secreto for its quiet sophistication. Both delivered and then some. While the previous post is correct regarding the hotel showing some wear and tear (a pool lounger was torn, furniture nicked, etc.) everything was pristinely clean and service was warm from the complimentary mimosas at check-in to prompt daily breakfast. Glass shower was ultra romantic with the ocean view, rain showerhead and more than big enough for two. Bed was feather-topped and way more comfy thatn most Mexican hotel beds. On the balconly, unfinished condos next door obstructed part of our view (4th floor king) and took some getting used to, but that's true all over Isla. Location was perfect as it's away from the larger hotels, but still an easy 2 minute walk to beach and restaurants. We had a special rate since the pool was not heated and water not provided. We didn't miss either at all; pool was perfect temp and water was easly acquired at the super market cheap. Would we stay again? If the rate was good, definately. Otherwise, we'll likely try out Medialuna as it was half the price and literally next door. Or for even more seclusion, we'll try out the Punta Sur area and golf cart in when we need to.

Our must-do 's: Tix & chic and huge mimosas at Playa Lancheros, stop at the turtle farm, punta sur tour, Olivia's for romance, ComoNo for great music and boho vibe, Sunset Grill for friendly beachside service and comfy loungers.

Lots of press on this place and surely some hype, but overall is a good find with a spot-on purpose. Quiet, chic, low-key, and perfect for relaxation and the all-important get-away. The property needs to pay attention to deferred maintenance both in the rooms and around the grounds. The rooms are sparce and devoid of color and the fabrics are tired and need refreshing. No art on the walls makes it even more basic, but the guest rooms are large (we were in a 4th floor king) and spacious. The glass walls and doors are a nice touch, but are showing their age with the exposure to salt water and use (lime scale and splotching) as are the mirrors. The bed is okay, but could use refreshing as could the linens, maybe even a feather top or memory foam topper. The water pressure is excellent in the shower, which is unusual for the typical Mexico hotel. The communal spaces are nice and there was alot of daytime activity around the pool. The deck and furniture could use refinishing, but were perfectly functional. There is a missing palm along the property wall that is really noticeable and should be replaced and the beach access is good, but was under repair when we were there for 2 of the 4 days. There is no planting or signage in front of the hotel (beach access) that could really help punch up the interest.

The staff was quite corteous and helpful and unobtrusive. No problem here at all. There is no elevator, so the up and down from the 3rd and 4th floors can be a bit much. There is no restaurant on the grounds although many of the local restaurants will deliver. Really, there's no need, though, as so much is within walking distance and makes it more fun to get out an about rather than hole up in the room. We spent alot of time on the daybed on our 4th floor deck...the view was great with wonderful breezes and lots of relaxation.

Just one note: beware of the big hotel/condo down the road. Their restaurants, Satay and Sabor restaurants are horrid. Stick with the locals, particularly Amigos and the rotisserie chickens. Roosters is fun for a light lunch.

We'll definitely return for more visits!

Our stay at Hotel Secreto was exactly what we were looking for. We wanted to escape our busy lives and relax. Ever since getting back home we have missed sitting poolside at Secreto....sleeping, reading, having a drink, basking in the Isla sun and making some great friends. The pool was beautiful and was heated. Hot tub overlooking the beach was nice also.

We loved staying in a smaller hotel (12 rooms). It was peaceful yet we were still very close to all the great eats and nightlife of downtown Isla. We had the breakfast each morning (well the mornings we didn't sleep in) and it was just right. It was light with buns, fruit, orange juice and coffee (I would recommend however that the hotel change up the breakfast every 2nd day or so.... we were there 12 days so it did get a little dull). After breakfast we went poolside where we spent most days (never had to worry about getting a lounger...no matter how late we slept in). The poolside service was fantastic and the prices of drinks were great ($2 a beer....delicious and large Pina Coladas were $5). They had two local menus that you could order from and have it delivered...again prices were great and it was quick. Having the two menus was like having two restaurants on site.

After a day of sitting poolside we would retreat to the room where we would lie on the wonderful balcony bed until it was time to take the mere minutes walk to centro to pick a spot to eat (just a note that we tried a different place each night and never had a bad meal...of course some were definitely better than others but the fun is just exploring).

It is obvious that the ownership and mgmt (all service staff for that matter) take great pride in the hotel. It is very clean and is as beautiful as the photos on the website. Also note their is a gym which I must admit I only used once. The gym has lots of equipment (universal and some free weights) and has 3 flat screen televisions.

The beach at Secreto is beautiful and every room has a view of the waves crashing in. The beach is on the east side so the water is too rough for swimming. There are loungers available on the beach. It is a public beach however it was never busy. Also note you can just walk around the corner from Secreto Beach and you arrive at Playa Norte which is also beautiful and you can swim in the calm shallow waters.

We will definitely be returning to Isla and can't imagine staying anywhere besides Secreto.

My husband and I just returned from our third stay at Hotel Secreto. We love the location and laid back feeling of this small, intimate hotel. The staff are warm and welcoming and make you feel pampered without hovering. Our March break is our "vacation" as opposed to a "trip" and we want to do nothing but sit by the pool, walk to town and North Beach and have occasional conversations with other guests. The hotel seems to attract a crowd that is 50's and up or late 20's and 30's. Despite the age differences, everyone is looking for the same thing, relaxation, beautiful views and classy accommodations. The rooms have comfortable king beds with cozy comforters, a sitting area and amazing outdoor bed and sitting area. The views are spectacular from the rooms and the outdoor beds are perfect for lounging around in the fresh, white bathrobes provided every day. The breakfasts are now brought to your room or the pool each day. I did get a bit tired of fruit and croissants and felt that a little more variety would have been good. I might suggest buying yogurt or other breakfast foods at the market to mix it up a bit. We had lunch delivered to us most days and that was great. Victor was always ready to take your cerveca or mixed drink order and seemed to magically appear if you wanted another one. We LOVE Hotel Secreto !

That all said, it is not a hotel or location for everyone. Isla Mujeres is somewhat gritty and more tourist filled than I typically like. There are the typical tourist shops and beach vendors, but they are always respectful and can be lots of fun to talk with if you have the right attitude. Be prepared for the big unfinished condo complex that abuts the hotel's property. It is an eyesore, but we just tell ourselves that is is another "Mexican ruin" The road leading up to Secreto and Playa Media Luna is rutted and looks a little scary, but it is perfectly safe.

The restaurants are another reason we keep coming back to Isla Mujeres. My husband loves ceviche and has it every day for lunch...the best is at Brisa, next to the ferry. Try Picus and Valezquez for the whole fried fish, El Patio on Hidalgo and Argentinian Grill ( I think that's what it's called) We never spent more than $30 n hd great meals with drinks. Have fun...enjoy Isla Mujeres ....and relax and enjoy the vies at hotel Secreto. Oh, I amost t forgot to mention the new hot tub...it's awesome !

My husband and i were on the island for the first time 3/1/10 through 3/6/10. It was wonderful. We stayed at Hotel Secreto. We were very pleased with the location of our hotel. Quick walk to many restaurants and the beach. The staff were very friendly and took care of all our requests. Simple...relaxing...peaceful.

We enjoyed the food at Amigo's, Rolandi's downtown, Cubano's, and BallyHoo's. Very inexpensive dining.

We will definitely be vacationing here again!
