We stayed at the top of this comfortable hotel - close to the action. Coffee was made every morning before we got to the kitchen and sometimes we got there very early. There is a coffee urn, drip through and bodoms but enough about the coffee. There is a fully equipped kitchen on the top floor which anyone can use and we made some pretty good meals with items purchased right across the street. there is also a covered seating area to relax in after the beach or shopping where there is the opportunity to meet a diverse collection of fellow travelers and exchange stories and tips about places to go and thins to see. Kate and Safari (mother daughter team that run Las Palmas) are a wealth of information, accommodating, friendly and, I am told, really cleaned up the place. Many of the guests are repeat visitors which says something about the style of the place. There is ample opportunity to socialize as well as many nooks and corners for solitude. Our time there was all too shor and we were there for a week

So much has been said that there is little to add. We loved our stay at this quirky little hotel. The rooftop deck is sunny and communal but there is always a quiet nook to discover in order to be in peace. The lobby area and second floor are shaded. As such, unless you prefer a dark room--I would request a penthouse suite on top floor. There are three. Our bright, cheery room included a wonderful king size bed, futon, chair, full sized refrigerator/sink and small counter with 2 stools. Tiled floors and shower area, AC worked great {there was also a ceiling fan}== the decor was islandy and tropical. All this for $120 a night--AMAZING. The owners are on site--charming, free spirited, and truly concerned about their guests.
Location was perfect-an easy walk to main street filled with bars and eateries. A short block and half to the beach, in view from the deck. Golf cart rentals 3 doors down. An appliance store 4 doors down that has a bank in back to change money over to Pesos ( Dollars and credit cards not accepted at many places.) Local lunch counters across the street {inexpensive, authentic, and yummy} as well as the market for produce and fresh squeezed juices.
At beach...I would recommend taking a right towards the palm trees and sitting. Buhio bar rents 2 loungers and an umbrella for 150 pesos (about $12.50 per day). It is less crowded there and they give you 3 free cans of soda from the bar as well. I would not hesitate to return.

We stayed for a week at this fun friendly resort in November and will definitely be booking again next fall. The owners, Kate and Safari, are as wonderful and hospitable as all the other reviews say. They are a wealth of info for planning your activities on the island and provide very clean and comfortable accommodations. The beauty of this hotel is the excellent location near the beach which is just gorgeous, a block from the shopping, bars, and restaurants, and right across from the 4 little loncherias which provide great breakfasts and lunches at reasonable prices. Also, directly across the street is the market full of fresh fruit and vegetables, and a great selection of fresh squeezed fruit juices. Another spectacular feature of Las Palmas, as if this weren't enough, is that this place allows you to mingle with other guests in their large communal areas on the rooftop, or spend quiet time outside your room in one of the many alcoves or balconies. Beautiful ocean breezes can be enjoyed in many different places at this resort. The library is quite extensive also, so don't weigh yourself down with too many books for the beach. We spent many evenings on the rooftop drinking a glass of wine or playing cards, it is a huge area with lots of tables, chairs, and lounges. There is a huge outdoor kitchen at one end to be shared by all where morning coffee is served. You can even prepare a meal in this very well stocked kitchen if you prefer.

We had a fantastic time on this vacation and Kate could not have been more gracious when we suddenly had to cut our trip short for a family emergency. Kate and Safari do their best to make sure each and every guest has an unforgettable vacation while at Las Palmas. We look forward to seeing them again soon! Greetings to our new friends, Kate, Safari, Marty, Miguel, Barry, and of course Dania and Cachito!

Had a wonderful time at this hotel. Kate and Safari are so relaxed and make you feel right at home. This is a great place for anyone who want to relax without the big hotel chain feel. Loved it! Can't wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I went to Las Palmas last Feb. for a week and couldn't believe it. There is so little to add to what others have said. It was our first visit and a friend had recommended it but wouldn't share any details, just saying you gotta see it for yourself. And we did. What an eye opener. Everything was great. Starting with Kate and Safari and all their family. Everyone who stays there becomes part of their family. You can either cook, or not, in the furnished kitchen, and you can always have morning coffee there. People gather there in the late afternoon for drinks. It is so relaxing. Any info. you need, Kate and Safari are there for you and always accommodating. We had made our reservations late and had to move for a day and that was no problem. This year we are booking early for next winter. In fact we are already booked!
The restaurants are great, you can eat for a little amount of money or more. All of it is wonderful.
The beach is to die for, about a 10 minute walk and they have plenty of good food there, as well.
Can't wait to get back and see everyone again. I am sure Dania has grown a lot and I see she is a swimmer now.
This place has everything one needs for a vacation. And the rates are low.
See you there.

Hotel Las Palmas is Awesome! My husband and I have stayed there for 5 years in a row. It's just like going home (only to a beautiful Island). We have more friends at that Hotel than we do in our home in Az. we stay there for 2-4 months every winter. We love it- it is a beautiful Hotel, many flowers- plants and places to hang out, in a quiet area or among other friendly, fun, crazy vacationers or just to visit Kate and Safari( and little Dania) the owners- they are wonderful in soooo many ways. I love and miss many people from the Hotel. It is a very safe hotel with the family living there and re-peat guests. It is my favorite place to go- hope I can for many more years- love you girls

We had a lovely stay in Isla due mostly to our stay at Las palmas. From the start, Kate and safari were communicative and very helpful. We had to postpone our trip a few weeks because my husband lost his passport and they were able to accommodate our change and did it with a smile.

We rented the penthouse on the roof and it was great- clean, bright and cheery. Outside was the roof deck where people came to hang out, cook in the kitchen or go for a dip in the small dipping pool. One word of advice- the hotel is very social and there is not much privacy so if you are looking for a romantic getaway with your own private area, this is not the place for you.

This was not the case for us- we loved it. Kate and Safari were lovely and we met so many nice, interesting people from all over the world.

Across the street were lunch counters where you could get breakfast and lunch. The food was delicious, authentic Mexican. Highly recommend the first lunch counter's fish tacos. Super cheap too. Also, right around the corner is a street lined with shops and restaurants that you can walk down. You can walk to North Beach which is beautiful. It was Mexico's Easter/spring vacation week so North Beach was pretty crowded, but normally it's not.

If we go back to Isla, we would definitely stay here. We were sad to leave!

Room Tip: The penthouse on the roof is exposed to the sun all day, so if you want a darker room, stay in a roo...

Our shaded deck on our second level, overlooking the street and is a great spot for people watching or reading a good book.We are located in the heart of the downtown. The beautiful turquoise of the Caribbean and powdery sand beach at Playa Norte are a block away (5 min walk). Just around the corner is Hidalgo Avenue, filled with cuisine from all over the world, live music, and friendly locals and tourists alike. We're directly across from the municipal market with four "loncheria" eating stalls, housing tasty, economical breakfast-lunch meals, as well as fresh squeezed juices. We have a hotel dog, Cachito (hypoallergenic, rasta-hair poodle) who is always ready for a stroll. ... more   less
