Kate and Safari were there to welcome us at arrival, answer all questions about places to try authentic food, and to accomodate our basic needs. The hotel was very basic, but very well maintained, with a spectacular rooftop deck and courteous guests. We came to Las Palmas based on recommendation and were very happy with our choice. The location is right across from the local market to purchase basic breakfast and lunch items, or to get authentic breakfasts, even on Sundays. It's two blocks from North beach, which makes it great for walking, and it's one to two blocks from all the street noise at night. I'd totally recommend the downtown location as it met our needs for walking, bike rental and moped/golf cart rental, and close proximity to the ferry. It's totally worth the price, but you should know walking in that it's not designed to boast an all inclusive feel. It's certainly not shabby or rustic though. Very well maintained. We also had a fridge in the room as well and amenities to cook if we wanted.

We have been wanting to stay here for the past three (3) years. Finally got to this past Febuary while Vacationing at another Resort in Puerto Moralos. We knew we were going to spend one night on Isla while in Mexico, but the Las Palmas was booked and we were prepared to stay elsewhere, but I called the Hotel a couple days before leaving and they had a one (1) night opening, so we jumped on it. So glad we did.
We arrived on the Island about 11a.m. and walked to the Hotel. Kate and Safari both were working and welcomed us. Our room was not ready yet, so we checked in and stowed our luggage in the office and went to lunch.
We returned about an hour later and they took us to our room. We had room 11, a downstairs room. The room was very clean and had two (2) double beds. The airconditioner was very powerful and cooled the room quickly. The bathroom was seperate and private, something you do not see alot in the Cancun area, as for some reason, an "open" bathroom seems to be the norm at the Resorts. The only thing the room did not have was a TV, but there was a cable hook up. Not having one was kind of nice. All in all, it was very nice.
There is quite a few "long term" Guests who stay there. We met a couple who stay from October thru April. What a life huh?
The Courtyard is where people hang out for morning coffee or cocktals later in the day. Everyone is very nice and socialble. There is a "community" fridge, microwave and 5 gallon water dispenser. You pretty much just make yourself at home.
On the roof, there is a dipping pool, a daybed and many lounge chairs. It's pretty cool.
The owners live on site. They are extremely personable and very easy to like. I went to rent a Golf Cart for 24 hours and neither of us brought our Drivers License with us. Safari, one of the owners, gave me her's to use. I had known her all of 2 hours. Not many folks would do that.
The cost of a room is $60.00. If you get a room with two (2) double beds, you can comfortably sleep four (4) and it's the same price. This is very cheap in my opinion.
I can't wait to return, this time for a much longer stay.

We arrived late but Kate was there to welcome us in. It was a lovely hotel with a wonderful common area. Everyone was so freindly & relaxed. Great value. We were unable to get a room with our own fridge but there was a common area fridge where we could keep some fresh fruit & ice. Our rooms were cleaned & kept fresh daily. Beds were confortable. Our only complaint is that they are under renovations so we were woken up every morning at 7:00am to hammering at our bedroom window. Not how I would like to to wake up although in order to make the most of all your time there, one should be up early. Restaurant across the street had great food! Will go back again once construction is done!! Loved it!

On arriving my daughter Alex and I were warmly welcomed, making us feel as if we were staying with friends rather than a hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. Kate and Safari offer a holiay experience that focuses totally on your 'holiday' needs. If you want company they will gladly share time with you, if you want space and privacy, then this is likewise respected. Their warmth, hospitality and local knowledge made our stay there one of the best that we experienced throughout our whole Mexican trip, which in total consisted of just over 3 weeks.

The room was exactly what i had hoped for, a typical rustic feel Mexican abode with en-suite bathroom and toilet. The airconditioning was most welcome! The cleaning staff were likewise really friendly, which as i travelled further afield found was not necessarily the norm...

The restaurant over the road, I totally recommend! in my opinion the food there ranked amongst the best for quality and flavour, and in my opinion was far superior to most other restaurants that i ate in as i travelled through Mexico.

I liked best the warmth and welcome throughout our stay. It only came to light the further i travelled, in that English is not commonly spoken in Mexico, so having both Kate and Safari English speaking, was also welcome. The only unwelcome aspect was that when guests dragged the sun loungers around on the roof top, the dragging noise could be heard in the room below.

My wife and I stayed at Las Palmas for a week in Feb. of 2010. We had tried to reserve the California Suite, but were told it was already booked so we opted for the queen bed room. Upon our arrival, we were delighted to find out that our room had a king (pillow top) bed and a refrigerator - two primary reasons we wanted to reserve the California Suite. And to our surprise, they only charged us for a queen bed room since that is what we had reserved!! The owners of the hotel were there to greet us, offered up the hotel safe for our passports and quickly got us into our room and into our vacation.

The location of this hotel is incredible. It is very close to the main street in downtown (Hidalgo), without the main street noise and just a couple of blocks from the main beach (North Beach). It is also just across the street from some very nice breakfast/lunch places and some back street markets. We had some friends who were staying on the island in several different locations, and while some of them were very nice, I wouldn't have traded with any of them.

As my wife puts it, walking into the hotel is like walking into an oasis. It has a very nice courtyard for guests to meet and socialize. The roof top is also very nice and is a great alternative for catching rays if the beaches are over crowded or on the really windy days when the beach has a sandblasting effect.

We felt the hotel was very secure as it has a front door that is kept locked during the night time hours. We also left many valuables out in our room (laptop, ipod, camera, etc) without any worry of them being stolen.

Some of the negative reviews I have read have some validity, and depending on the type of traveler a person is, this hotel is not for everyone. It is true that courtyard noises can be heard at times, but shutting the window and turning on the fan or AC solved this issue quite simply. And as for some people complaining about the hotel owners being too sociable, I'm guessing that the owners would think that to be a good problem to have and agree that this hotel is not for the type of person who would think such a way. We found the owners to be very nice and served as a useful resource for information about the island. At no time did we feel obligated to interact with them.

In summary, for the low-maintenance traveler, this hotel is a great value in a great location.

Recently returned from a two week trip to the peaceful island of Mujeres. We stayed our first two nights at a hotel we had prebooked online and were not happy with it due to noisy location, and the supposed balcony not being even big enough to sit on.
A complete stroke of luck to come upon the gem "Hotel Las Palmas". Immediately liked the place after meeting the Hotel family, Kate, Safari and baby Dania. We are so lucky that they were able to accommodate us and we eagerly moved in the next day. In short this small hotel made our vacation. Wonderful quiet location, within easy reach of everything. Setup of hotel includes large courtyard which is a favourite meeting spot for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. Great to meet lots of people and hear their experiences with Isla and other places. After our day at the beach or around the town, it way always nice to come back to our comfortable cozy room at Las Palmas, It really felt like coming home.
Hope we will have the opportunity to return to this wonderful Island and great hotel.
