“AMAZING”
Reviewed 11 August 2012

We found this place on Groupon, and I am SOOOO glad we did. Its magical. The island itself is paradise. Most (if not all) of the hotels are small boutique hotels, equipped with pools right on the ocean. I dont know if its like this all the time, or if its that we are off season, but the hotels all let you come in and use their amenities FOR FREE. Several times during our stay (we are still here! but its so nice im inclined to write this now!) we were the only people on the beach. Having said that, we never utilized a place without ordering something! You get around the island by moped or golf cart, but if you want to spend the days drifting from beach to beach like we do, sipping margaritas and eating cerviche, we recommend the golf cart.

This hotel has amazing staff. Moy, Jube and the bartender have all been amazing- and seeing as we are a NYC bar owner and bartender, we have high expectations. The place is a bit worn as per previous reviews, but I dont think its a negative or impedes on any part of the charm. It is perfectly clean, which is something I will not compromise on vacation.

We are staying in the Peace room which, yes is very small, but is perfectly livable if you dont mind vacationing out of a suitcase. I brought all sorts of cute clothes, thinking it would be similar to Cancun, and have yet to be out of flipflops, a bathingsuit and a coverup all week!

The bed is pretty hard, which is literally my ONLY negative, as my back hurts now- but nothing I cant fix with a massage and some relaxing by the pool.

Things we have checked out so far and recommend: Royal Swim with the Doplhins at Dolphin Discovery, the museam beach bar, and Casa de Suenos (the infinity pool is unbeatable). Most like to spend their days at Playa Norte as the beach itself is like power. We however prefered the Sur side of the island as it has leff tourists and crystal clear waters.
HIGHLY recommend.

Room Tip: Only put terrible to fitness center and spa since there is none! But who cares!

They staff are very friendly and helpful. In my opinion the ammenities, the location, the staff and the price combine for one of the best bargains on Isla Mujeres.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Contemplation Room because it offered the best rate, It is located in the same hall...

This hotel was a wonderful surprise! The location is outstanding and the restaurant above the hotel has some of the most delicious pasta I have ever eaten! The hotel is a 20 minute walk from downtown which is great because it has a less touristy feel. The rooms are soooo romantic and peaceful. Hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. Overall my I can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: The Grace 1 rooms is awesome and so is the Peace room.

Casa Ixchel is situated on a nice, quiet stretch of the island, away from, but not too far away from the busier sections of the island. We stayed in the Abundance suite, which faces the terrace (w/ pool) and the ocean. Although this part of the ocean is not very swimmable (it's quite rocky), you feel like you have the entire terrace and beach to yourself as very few tourists venture out to this part of the ocean. Another plus to being right by this side of the island is that there is always a nice breeze blowing (most other areas of the island can get quite hot). Abundance is a generously large suite with nice shower, bathroom, living space and kitchen. Our favorite aspect of the suite was that you could walk right out on to the semi private terrace. All the terrace, featuring pool and beds, is shared by everyone, the hotel is so small that we generally felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. The staff was attentive and very friendly.

Room Tip: Choose ocean facing room

We stayed in the Abundance suite for 4 nights and enjoyed the oceanfront location, the extra space and the peace and quiet (mostly). The king size bed was great and our kids didn't complain about the murphy bed in the living room. There were two A/C units, one in the bedroom and one in the living room.

Unfortunately the suite was dated and in serious need of some TLC. The living room furniture was worn and stained, the bathroom fixtures were corroded as was the siding door to the patio. The kitchen was small and ant infested - I think they were coming from the wooden blinds above the sink. Water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water, however the shower door did little to keep the water in the shower... we flooded the hallway a few times.

The Abundance suite has an outdoor dining area with a wooden table and chairs that needed refinishing, and the trellis roof above it has been removed.

The pool was clean and cool and there were a number of sunbeds available, however the bird crap was not cleaned off of them or the deck during our stay. The sunbed in front of our suite had a broken frame and was covered in debris from the thatched roof of the restaurant above. The patio was swept only once during our stay.

The food at the restaurant was amazing and the view was absolutely incredible!

The peace and quiet that we enjoyed most of the time was interrupted daily around 7am as the chairs and tables for the rooftop restaurant were slid back into place. Other than that it was a great place to relax.

Overall this place has great potential but for the price we were a little disappointed.

If you are the type of traveler that is looking for something wonderful, this is the place for a quiet retreat on Isla Mujeres. This is the anti-Cancun vacation at it's best. This is the place if you want to enjoy the ocean breeze without being stuck in the crowd. The room that we stayed in had a wonderful little kitchen and a soft comfortable bed. We were able to bring back essentials from town and relax on the wonderful patio overlooking the ocean.

Room Tip: for two (or one) choose Peace, for a larger group or a bigger budget go for Grace

Everything I expected and so much more! Absolutely beautiful hotel with an incredible view. Service was incredible and every need met by staff. The food was incredible. The chef was incredible, very attentive and wanted to ensure everything was just right. He made it a point to come out and speak with our party and placed a lot of attention to detail. He could definitely be a top chef at any NY restaurant! Can't wait to go there again!
