My boyfriend and I came to stay at Zina's for our spring break and truly was perfect. We flew into Cancun and took the ferry over to the island. On the first morning Zina took us for a tour of the island on her golf cart and pointed out places to go and great places to eat. We rented a moped for the first two days and had a lot of fun just cruising around the island. We visited the turtle farm, La Hacienda Mandaca, stayed at a beautiful beach lounge (Zama), shopped downtown, and much, much more. Zina brought us fresh fruit and juice sold by local vendors every morning and really made each day delightful. I ran around the salina each day for exercise and although it is hot, it was a great place to run.
Be prepared to have an early start, we woke up each morning around 8 to construction and local vendors selling food. The water main broke to our side of the island for the last 2 days, and if we had known, we probably could have conserved our water for the rest of the trip! We still had fresh water and were able to shower using Zina's water tank. This break was perfect for us, there was the luxurious aspect as well as the adventurous part to it. I love Isla Mujeres and hope to come back soon!

My sister and I just spent another week at Zina's. It's been 3 years since we've been able to make it back but we just won't wait that long again! First of all, the experience of just getting to Zina's from Sacramento, CA is a trip in itself! I've stayed in resorts and I have to say that staying in one of Zina's apts. is truly unique ~ from hearing the daily bicycle riding songs selling cheese to fruit to tortillas ~ to going to the local market ~ to just watching daily life in the neighborhood are sites you just won't find at the Hilton! Then there are all of Zina's "secret" or maybe not so secret daily getaways (the kind of places only the locals know!). Isla is so much more than a paradise when you couple the trip with staying at "Zina's House!"

Zina's guest house is perfect for vacationers who prefer to avoid tourist traps and offer themselves a more authentic experience. Zina greeted us with welcome mojitos and introduced us to the best island treasures--from the yummiest eateries to the friendliest dive shop. Staying in La Gloria, a local neighbourhood, gave us a much more real and complete look at life on isla than staying in the busier downtown area. And everything is just a quick bike ride away (Zina even supplies the bike!) The apartment we stayed in was clean, cozy and comfortable, not to mention a really good deal! Zina and Lora (her hurricane rescue dog) made us feel right at home, and so did the locals. We'll definitely be back for more!

If you want to stay in an authentic Mexican neighborhood, Zina's guest house is perfect, and very reasonable. The room had air conditioning, a microwave, coffeemaker and stovetop as well as cable TV. There is a small courtyard to enjoy the beautiful weather as well as a rooftop deck. Zina provided directions to all the amenities on the island including beaches, clubs and restaurants. A wonderful, cultural experience away from the party scene in Cancun. I have booked another stay in Feb. 09.

I enjoyed Zina's Guest House so much the last time that I returned for a two-week stay in May. As usual, Zina was the best possible hostess. She really wants people to enjoy staying in the "hood" instead of in the usual tourist areas. She knew local restaurants which were cheaper and just as yummy as the ones downtown. I would catch a taxi to the beach, hang out with new and old friends, and then return to relax in a wonderful apartment with all the comforts of home.
