Reviewed 7 December 2013

We decided to visit Merida for Thanksgiving weekend. Fortunately, we were able to snatch their last room via Booking.com.
We have to say that we were extremely happy with our choice.

What we loved about Hotel Merida Santiago was the wonderful hospitality shown by Jan and Rita. We prefer to stay in smaller boutique hotels rather than large cooperate establishments when traveling. We've met a handful of excellent hosts throughout our travels, but Jan and Rita were by far the most helpful and sincerest people ever. They always took time to answer our questions and gave us honest suggestions. They are also very good listeners. (Sorry, we talked too much!)

Breakfast isn't included in the rate, but, at only $8 per person, it is definitely worth trying. They serve different foods every morning and they are fresh and delicious.

The neighborhood was completely safe to walk around. Many interesting restaurants are located only 6 blocks away on Calle 62.

We sincerely thank Jan and Rita for making our trip to Merida super easy and enjoyable.
We feel like that we found new lifetime friends!!!

We stayed two nights at the merida santiago and we absolutely loved it! Rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, everything is sparking clean: room, bathroom, hotel... The small terrace/balcony was an appreciated private space outside.Breakfast is a 3-course meal with lovely and tasty dishes.
On top of this, owners Rita and Jan are really taking care of the guests, spending time explaining all the sights and attractions in Merida and around, finding solutions for all your needs, from restaurant to rent-a-car.
The two ladies working with them and cooking breakfast are absolutely lovely!

Wow, don't miss this place if you are in Merida. Having travelled a lot to different places around the world, this would be one of our favorites.
The owners, Rita and Jan, did all their possible to let us feel like home. Upon arrival we got quickly briefed about main attractions in and around the city, while being offered fresh beer and lemonade. After a 200km drive from Tulum more than welcome :-).
We had one of the new rooms on the 2nd floor. Very spacious, with AC an private terrace (from where we could listen to the Tuesday evening concert on plaza Santiago), wifi (signal a bit weak inside the room). Huge bathroom with good shower, meaning water coming with decent pressure. Good mattress to sleep on and very quiet location at night.
The B&B is located a few blocks or 10mins walk from the Zocalo in a residential area. Might be a bit tricky to find by car when it's your first time in Merida.
Back inside, we didn't have a chance to try the pool but the whole area is decorated with taste and a colorful atmosphere at night.
They focus on quality for the breakfast and make sure to offer a different one every day.
This is a place where you will feel immediately at home. Again, one of the best addresses during our trip through Mexico.

I thought between 2 or 3 stars for this hotel. The room was ok, nice bed, but nothing out of the ordinary. And a minus the rooms NOT having a refrigerator. The pool was maybe the best part of the place. We had the whole place almost for ourselves since there was only one couple besides us, so we did a night swim in the pool for couple of times. The bathroom was way too big(!), should have used the space elsewhere instead than to the bathroom and in there was also a constant, really bad smell (actually of urine and sweat).. I think that came from the plunging but it was distracting nevertheless. WiFi was good in this hotel and the staff was nice and friendly. The owner though was a bit useless - even though he did try - regarding for actually useful information about the near by sites and/or traveling around (other than by car). The rooms were located around the pool in the inner yard and we had the first room on the left, on 1st floor (I guess it was room #1..). Should there have been children f.ex. playing and shouting around the pool the room would've been a very noisy place. But luckily for us there wasn't any children staying over there then. But if you'd like some privacy and quiet times, a room from the 2nd floor would be your best bet. The location was ok, not a long walk from the city centre. Hotel can be a bit tricky to find since they don't have anything outside the building (no sign stating "hotel", etc.) stating that that is a hotel. Rather it looks like a private house instead. So make sure you have the exact address and take a taxi.

What an amazing place. We came here last minute and I am so glad we did. As soon as we arrived, the owner sat us down and gave us loads of information about the area.

The room was spacious and clean with everything you might need. The bathroom was huge! The shower wasn't that powerful but that is literally the only negative thing I have to say. The breakfast was tasty and the staff were very good. The hotel is centrally located and you can walk to the centre in about 10 minutes. There is also free parking. The owners were just so friendly and helpful and we can't recommend it enough.

We stayed here a few nights while exploring Merida for the first time. Whenever we visit a new place I usually check out in person some of the other hotels we were considering to see if we could've picked better, or to note to try a different hotel next time... well, the other Trip Advisor reviewers that convinced us to book here nailed it, we would definitely stay here again.

The location is a safe and short 5 minute walk to the main historic square and about 10-15 minutes walk to the beginning of Paseo Montejo where a street market and local festivities take place. There are also good restaurants nearby and taxi's are always available to get to the newer part of town to the north, to the malls, theaters, chain restaurants and such if you're into that. Use the white cabs.

Merida is a very easy city to drive around. We arrived to the hotel in the dark by car from Cancun and found it without too much difficulty, but it is a little confusing with the one way streets so google map it or whatever before you head out.

Yan and Rita are awesome and were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very cozy and well kept and after a exploring Merida and the countryside in the blistering heat we enjoyed lounging poolside with cold beers before heading out for dinner. Four days is definitely not enough time to see Merida and the region properly so we'll be back.

Room Tip: We had room #1 and it was perfect, on the lower level, step out of the room to the pool. I would req...

Very modern and confortable guesthouse at a walking distance from downtown Merida, with a large bathroom and all the amenities. Yan and Rita are perfect hosts providing you with valuable information about the do's and dont's of the city. The guesthouse was undergoing major renos when we were there, but Yan made sure we had a perfect stay. Highly recommended.
