“Lovely leafy large central plaza”
Reviewed 17 May 2014 via mobile

A cool and shady spot in the daytime. Lively family spot in the evenings. Good for people watching. It is the heart of the city.

“Busy, Loaded with Charm”
Reviewed 12 May 2014

One thing Mexican society makes far better use of the American society is its parks. They are the heart of the town and family life. Merida's Plaza Grand is not exception. Given its proximity to the Cathedral and the Palacio del Gobernador, I expected it to be totally over-run by tourists. I was wrong. It was busy all times of the day ast tourists than the evening hours, it was always filled with locals as well. Young and old alike gravitated toward the Plaza Grand to gossip, mingle, enjoy an ice cream or a cerveza and just hang out.

We did not have the opportunity to experience the Sunday market and vendors since we were there during the week. As in all cities, pricing for those establishments along the plaza are higher than the areas farther out but still more reasonable than Playa or Cancun.

Take some time to sit on the benches, see the Cathedral lit up at night, watch the crowds going in and out of the Governor's Palace, and just experience a little bit of colonial Mexico.

For those who need a place to check their cell phones or get online for a few minutes, all the plazas in Merida have free wifi as well.

When visiting Merida you must experience the Grand Plaza on a Sunday for your trip to be complete. This is the most happening place in the city Centro.
