“Friendly and great value”

We stayed here 3 nites in late January 2012 as part of a month long vacation all over the Yucatan peninsula. We booked thru Expedia ahead of time based largely on TripAdvisor's good rating. We were not disappointed. Johhny the doorman/manager was awesome, always helpful and ready with recommendations for how to get places, restaurants, etc. Yes, the place could use a little sprucing up but it is by no means run down or dirty. If you want a brand new Holiday Inn cookie-cutter hotel then stay there. We like Mexico with all its quirks and charms. The pool is nice and the rooms large. We had a poolside one away from any noise and we slept like babies. No parties while we were there. The biggest drawback for this hotel is the 3 block walk to the cool part of Merida. It only takes 5-10 minutes to walk it, but the walk is not thru a very interesting part of town. It is safe, just a little drab. If you stay north of the centro it is way nicer, but of course more expensive. Other than that, no complaints. It is close to the CAME bus station(3 blocks). We ate in the restaurant 3 or 4 times and loved it. Great breakfast, inexpensive and tasty. Had supper once and wished we'd done so more often. The best part of the restaurant? Juan Tatacoya! He was fantastic. Cheerful and friendly and made us feel so welcome. We love you Juan! By the time we left we felt like a friend.
Overall I recommend this place unless you insist on brand new perfectly sanitized American style hotels. Then stay at the Fiesta Americana for 4 times the money.
Enjoy Merida and don't miss the market just a block from the centro. It is amazing.

Room Tip: Avoid the streetside. It will be noisy as lots of buses use this street.

At the begining it seems a good price for what they offer, but don't be fooled! This place is not worth a penny, i would rather have paid a good hostel for one fourth the price and i would have been better, thanks god i just stayed one night before i changed to Nomads

The hotel is a little tired needs painting etc pool needs a paint too.
But for $40n usd in Carnival week a few blocks from the town square and walking distance to bus station we were very happy with our 4 night stay.
Air con and TV (some english but no CNN) no fridge in room or safe but safe at front desk.
Jony and Martha on the front desk were very helpful and happy people.
We had 1 breakfast in the restaurant which was nice $3.50 usd for coffee orange juice and scrambled eggs on toast which we also thought was good value. There was a breakfast buffet too.
The pool is big but needs updating.
We took bus to uxmal from 2nd class bus station they leave at 6am and 9am or you can do the Puuc route at 8am back at 4pm and do 5 different ruins in a day, (see my review of the Puuc route on trip adviser).
All in all a good stay

We had a great stay at this hotel. It is in a great location, the staff are very friendly and the pool is large and clean. The front desk staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. We found it quiet when we were there during Carnaval. Excellent value especially when you package with Americano breakfast. Completely non-smoking, which we appreciated.

My companion and I stayed here in December of 2011 just before Christmas. The proximity of the hotel to the main square could not be beat. The service from the front desk staff was average. Could not sleep 3 out of 5 nights due to holiday parties in the ballroom. The walls and windows were paper thin and sleeping was a nightmare. I also missed my wake up call on the first night. Would stay elsewhere if coming back to Merida.

I have stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and the stay was pretty good. The Customer service was great. I have got lot of help from the staff on the restaurants, directions, arranging a taxi, etc. Thank you Johnny and all the rest of the staff. You guys are doing a great job. The room was OK with nice bed. The restaurant was OK. The best thing is the hotel is located close to Plaza Grande and MACAY. Overall, a very good stay with a nice customer service.

Room Tip: Take a pool side room, but not close to elevator. The rooms on the road side are very noisy.

My wife, daughter and I stayed here for 5 nights. Overall I think it was "okay". We had planned to stay for just the first night or two and then find a new place. Merida was such a great experience for us that we didn't want to take the time to search for a new place and move. I think we expected a bit more after reading the comments here.
POSITIVE:
Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms are a decent size and clean if a bit run-down. Beds are decent. Pool area is nice for a dip. free wifi and computers to use. Restaurant is okay. things had good flavour although a bit sloppy in the details compared to other restaurants in the area. Location is good.
NEGATIVE:
We changed rooms twice hoping to find a quieter location. The room right beside the elevator is VERY noisy all night long. and on the street side the morning traffic is loud on weekdays. The place is a bit run down (but with some charm). We had a leak from the bathroom ceiling. an AC that was barely pumping, overall furnishings a bit dumpy. 2 parties happened in the "conference" space while we were there, but it wasn't a problem for us (This town knows how to have a good time!).
OVERALL:
We felt safe, comfortable, and it was good for us at the time, I think I would search out something better next time but would stay here again in a pinch.

Oh yeah... find out in advance if you can get breakfast included. we were told it was by one person, but found out it wasn't after ordering. I think it was included for other people staying there

Room Tip: You want pool side but not next to the elevator.
