Reviewed 22 May 2014

Stayed here over night for a early morning flight out of Merida. It is clean and the beds are comfortable, and in the hotel zone, close to Centro, easy access to restaurants and other sites. Would stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel for several days for a training. It offers a reasonable quality at acceptable price. The biggest advantage was that it is very close to the center. You could walk for 20 minutes or take a cab (or horse car). Staff was friendly. Last day the electricity went off but there were staff members in each team guiding us to our rooms. Very thoughtful!

Very nice hotel in the best position to walk to the main street and from there go downtown or just walk to a museum or catch a tour bus Etc. Rooms are clean and our service was very good. Best price for a hotel of that standard.

We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights. The hotel is at an excellent location and our room was quiet. It has a large lobby. The staff was very courteous. A desk clerk whose name is pronounced Mitchell (but whose name is spelled a little differently) was very helpful and displayed a great attitude. The breakfast buffet had an extensive variety of food and was reasonably priced. The room was large, had a nice enclosed balcony, and had a large shower. This was a shower only type of room--it had no bath tub. The part of the bottom of the shower enclosure where the shower curtain was located only had an approximate one inch lip. The shower curtain was very short. From the bottom of the shower curtain to the floor there was an approximate 10 inch gap. The result was that each time each of us showered we would have to use the bath mat and a towel to remove a moderate amount of water from the bathroom floor. We had pointed out to a male staff member (not Mitchell) the short shower curtain problem on the first day of our stay. The male staff member told us he did not see this as a problem. So, we just put up with this annoying problem.

As any other holiday inn the service was excellent I didn't have any problem. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I went to the gym twice and the person in charge helped me with my exercise routine. The room was good, everything was clean and the I love staying at the holiday inn every time I can but....there is always a but...the noise of the generator bothered me the whole night. It was not an excessive noise, I accept that but still it bothered me. Even with both windows closed (there were windows at the balcony and the window of the room) I could still hear the generator. That is something Holiday Inn Merida have to work on. Everything else was excellent specially the food. Congratulations.

Room Tip: Always ask for rooms away from the generator area.

Pros
Lovely quite and pretty room
Nice balcony and outlook
Good shower pressure
Decent coffee and maker in room
Excellent service from over member of staff we encountered
Great value for money
Good location
Great margaritas in the lobby bar
Good breakfast
Extra touches for our priority club status were appreciated- welcome letter including points confirmation for stay and some fruit in the room

Cons/small niggles

WIFI went from amazing signal to zero and back again in seconds
Wet room shower gradient may be to steep for some guests

This hotel is adequately reliable in terms of a clean, recognizable place to stay in Merida. Being a chain hotel, it obviously lacks the charm/flavor of the smaller, local hotels and inns. However, it is situated just across an intersection from a Wal-Mart, around the corner from a Starbucks. So, if you are in need of a taste of things Americana and general supplies from the box store Walmart, then this location is good. It's a pretty good hike from the historic center of town, but is do-able on foot, and certainly is just a short cab ride from the center of town. Downside of our room: the ventilation system is obviously outdated and overwhelmed by the humid Merida conditions. Our room smelled of mold and musty air, so if you have allergic reactions to mold or mildew, beware.
