“Great location, value”
Reviewed 12 April 2013

Our room must have been one of the junior suites, because it was very large with a sitting area. Location on the street was too noisy to leave the balcony door open but the A/C worked well. Free parking with 24-hour attendant was a pleasant surprise. A very short walk to the main plaza, and we felt safe day and night. We skipped the breakfast buffet because there were so many interesting choices nearby.

Room Tip: Junior suites are very spacious

This hotel is beyond bad. First, they refused to accept a Groupon at check-in that they confirmed they would accept on a phone call the day before ! Their attitude was basically "too bad, we are not taking it now" ! The restaurant is deplorable, with a breakfast buffet that almost sent me to the hospital with gastric trauma ! When I asked for a refill of my "decaf" coffee, he then informed me that they don't have decaf....so what was the first cup of decaf made of ??? The bed sheets only covered half of the bed (they were obviously using twin sheets on a king bed and turning it sideways !) and the "bedspread" was thinner than the sheet. The shower took about an hour to drain and flooded the bathroom and part of the bedroom every time you used it. We waited for three elevators to get to our room with our luggage because a housekeeper was on it with her cart...even though there was an elevator clearly marked "for staff only" right next to the guest elevator. They simply must use the Best Western res system and name for marketing, because they surely don't adhere to any standards. A more apropos name would be WORST WESTERN !

Room Tip: stay in another hotel !

This hotel ist not very expensive but it is on a noisy road, the windows don't provide any isolation. The aircon is load. The shower in our room sprinkled water everywhere but not on you.

The hotel is located about 3 blocks ftom the main plaza, is very good for walking during the day or night, very good to go out dinner and very secure to walk during the night, the hotel was decent for the price but it was very clean, it has cable, internet, wood floors, and AC it was nice and the pool was clean.

Room Tip: 2nd floor was good and quiet

As a BW Gold card holder, I was surprised how many things were wrong with this Hotel with a BW name. The facility is old and does not show its age well. There was an odor in the elevator that was horrible. The Hotel and surrounding area is very noisy and the windows and doors of the Hotel rooms do not keep much of the noise out. It does advertise on site parking, but make sure the gate is open or you'll be driving in circles. The parking lot is very small, so if you have a larger sized vehicle- crossover or SUV, be careful as they'll make you back in from a busy small street. The gentlemen supervising the lot was not very hospitable and could not be bothered that you were trying to back a vehicle into a postage stamp sized space.

Front desk staff was helpful and professional but had a problem with the language difference, even though they advertise bi-lingual staff; not that evening anyway.

The room had many scuff marks on the walls, floor trim was cracked and missing and the furniture cushions and bedspread needed cleaning. I initially thought one stain was part of the pattern...

The a/c worked but was loud, which was probably good as it masked the noise coming from the street 5 stories below. Bath was fairly clean except for a long dark hair on the floor; no it wasn't mine.

The bed is typical old school Hotel operator, the hardest bed to last the longest.

Room Tip: stay away from the lower numbered rooms 01, 02 as they are right on top of a noisy street, if you wa...

The pool wasn't available they were fixing it. I think would be nice to advice travelers about any repairs performing at the hotel.

The hotel is only 3 or 4 blocks from the plaza which is nice. The room was clean but there were mosquitos all over the place. I used a towel to kill them to the best of my ability. I thought that I had killed all of them and realized that I did not when I woke up with bites everywhere. The TV only had 5 or 6 channels that you could view, FOX News was the only english one. I don't think that I would stay here again but I will definately go back to Merida. The city itself is beautiful.

  • Liked — The proximity to the plaza
  • Disliked — The mosquito infestation
