what a wonderful and peaceful place! everyone there did everything they could to make sure my time in Merida was perfect. Breakfast was fresh and served outside. You felt like you were eating in paradise. The staff was exceptional in everyway and spoke English well- I unfortunately spoke no Spanish{ I plan to remedy that!}, so that was helpful to me. Very convenient to the downtown area, but far enough away to be pretty quiet.

I cannot wait to go back.

what a wonderful place!
and what wonderful people! I will be back.

We enjoyed our most recent visit to Merida staying for the first time at Medio Mundo. The small hotel was clean, attractive, nicely appointed and the hosts were gracious. A healthy and tasty breakfast.

Medio Mundo is designed for peace and quiet. The rooms have neither telephones nor televisions, and the hotel is located on a quiet street about three blocks from the main plaza. It feels (and looks) more like a Mexican villa than a hotel. There is a lovely central patio.

The beds were comfortable. The air conditioner worked fine, but wasn't really needed in the evenings - the room's ventilation was good enough. (This was in October.)

We were provided two bottles of water, which could be refilled as often as we liked from a water cooler (the kind that uses 5-gallon bottles). This not only saves money, it also reduces waste.

Breakfast was included. There was fruit, yogurt, bread, rolls, juice, and coffee (no decaf) or tea. For other meals, there are some excellent restaurants nearby, most notably the Casa Maya.

The hotel's gift shop (mostly local handicrafts) also acts as the front desk. We were able to book a guided tour of Uxmal there. The staff were excellent, suggesting not only places to go, but also places to avoid.

If you're planning to stay near the historical center of Merida, Hotel Medio Mundo should be on your short list.

I wanted to just write comment to say I agreed with all the entries which say that this is an excellent hotel. I would like to single out the service especially from the reception desk as being outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble. We were travelling on to Holbox Island and all the traveller forums said a direct daytime bus was not possible. Guiner did a bit of phoning around for us and produced a bus!

Room Tip: Top floor possibly.

The minute we stepped through the door of Medio Mundo we relaxed and breathed a thankful sigh. It's a beautifully calming oasis in the midst of a hot and humid city. Set around a courtyard filled with plants, trees, and a little waterfall/pond, the rooms are spacious and colorful, clean and comfortable. The AC/fan combo kept us cool and happy. Outside each room are chairs on the balcony where it's pleasant to sit in the early morning or late afternoon when it cools off a bit. The breakfasts around the small swimming pool on the rear patio are wonderful, especially the fresh fruit plate of mango, papaya, melon and banana. Everyone who works there was helpful and friendly and we always felt well taken care of. I also want to mention their small gift shop where I found some of the nicest things I saw anywhere in Merida, especially the beautiful pillow covers from Chiapas and Guatemala.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing the street are quieter.

Our stay in Merida was amazing and Medio Mundo was a big part of that. It was an oasis in hot downtown. Beautiful courtyards with tropical plants, water fountains, breakfast by the pool. And the rooms were authentically decorated. The king bed was so comfy and the fan and A/C were perfect! We loved just escaping the world and forgetting about what time it was. The staff were wonderful...especially Jose. Thank you soooooooo much for everything. And if you are looking for a place to stay-THIS IS IT!

Room Tip: Go for the king bed with AC and fan!

Medio Mundo is actually one of the main reasons for why I´ve kept coming back to Mexico and Yucatan. It´s not only a wonderful and lovely hotel, for me it has also become a place for mentally getting in shape for another busy year. The colourful walls and flowers, the sound of porling water as you fall asleep, the sound of the wind in the trees and song of the birds as you´re enjoying their absolutely delicious breakfast in the lovely garden, nothing can be more relaxing and peaceful.
Behind the blue entrance a hidden Paradise will appear with lots of wonderful and interesting details. The rooms are big and spacious and so are the bathrooms. No need to mention spotlessly clean of course. The supercomfy beds are simply the best! Still dream of getting one of them over to Europe. ;-) There´s also a really good handicraft shop with top quality items, very very tempting. A charming little pool is also available which is a relief as Merida can get quite hot.
But what makes Medio Mundo so very special is the lovely owners, Nicole and Nelson and their fantastic staff. All SO nice and welcoming, always there with a smile and extremely helpful in every way with various information. This might be regarding local traditions, tours, restaurants, hairdresser, golf courses and shopping. They all make you feel genuinely welcome and give you a wish to return soon again. This was my 6th visit at wonderful Medio Mundo and I have been there on my own, with different friends and as a couple and every visit has been just as fantastic as the previous one. Can strongly recommend this amazing place for travellers who are seeking something special and very memorable.:-)
