Simply a magical experience. Our 4 nights at MedioMundo could not have been any better. The hotel was extremely clean with friendly staff, warm showers, water pressure, air conditioning, and without a doubt the most comfortable bed you will sleep in during your stay in Mexico. If you are visiting Merida, staying at MedioMundo will make your vacation perfect. I am 32 and my wife 29 (and expecting) and we both came home from our 2 week vacation to the Yucatan remembering how special the beginning of the trip was in Merida while staying at MedioMundo.

We’ve just returned from our babymoon in the Yucatan. Ruby was 5 months pregnant during our 2 week trip and she enjoyed every moment of it. Merida was our first stop before Playa Del Carmen and then Tulum. We planned our trip to begin with celebrating Carnaval with the locals in Merida. Carnaval is a weeklong annual celebration that can be described as Mexico's version of Mardi Gras. We highly recommend visiting Merida during this time if you can as everything about Merida during Carnaval is SO festive and lively and the weather is not that hot yet in February. We arrived in Merida Saturday, February 17 and left for Playa del Carmen on Wednesday, February 21st.

We arrived at MedioMundo late Saturday evening and were greeted with a smile by Jesus. The check-in was smooth and Jesus helped us with our luggage and showed us to our room. MedioMundo always has a person at the door during the evenings to allow guests into the villa style hotel and of course to keep unwanted visitors out. Guests always leave their key with the host on duty before leaving the hotel, so nobody can enter the villa without being let in by hotel staff. This security and privacy from the outside made us feel very safe during our stay. And, we also felt comfort in knowing that if, by chance, we had a challenge returning to the hotel, somebody would know we were gone because our key would be left unclaimed for the day/night.

The room was creatively painted and decorated with fresh, cozy, warm, colors. The colors and decor of the room combined with the shadows cast on the wall by the lighting during the evening immediately sets your mind and mood in a peaceful, relaxed, and calm state. The courtyard fountain that you can hear from your room accentuates the tranquility of the hotel.

The location couldn’t be better. The downtown restaurants, small convenience stores, internet cafes, and bars are all within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. This puts the hotel far enough from the hustle and bustle of the downtown festivities, crowd, and music while at the same time close enough to everything so that you could try a different restaurant for every meal.

My wife had the breakfast at the hotel almost every morning and loved the fresh fruit, pastries, and juice. I had their coffee almost every morning and enjoyed it. On a couple of occasions I also had an ice cold beer served in an ice cold glass mug during the warm afternoon. The pool was always clean and you’ll always see someone cleaning it to keep it that way. We were looking forward to meeting Bambu the cat, but when I asked where s/he was during our 2nd day their, Fernando had told us that unfortunately s/he had been missing since the past December. It was a bummer, but we got over it =).

I could go on forever about how great MedioMundo is, how friendly the staff are, and how awesome our trip to Merida was, but I will never end up posting the review on TripAdvisor and anyone reading this now will never have gotten the chance to read about our experiece. And, maybe like me, you’re up late at home or at work reading review after review wondering where you should go and beginning to plan your near-perfect vacation to the Yucatan. If you have any questions along the way, would like to learn more about our 2 week Yucatan itinerary, or about things we did while in Merida, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujera, or Cozumel you’re welcome to EMAIL ME ANYTIME at: kozuma@pacbell.net and put “Merida” in the subject.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Nicole, Nelson, Jesus, Jose, Fernando, and everyone who made our stay at MedioMundo unforgettable! We’ll see you again!

PLEASE do not let the absence of reviews on TripAdvisor for this hotel since September 2006 worry you. I was a bit concerned myself and checked back often after making my reservations with MedioMundo to see if any new reviews had been posted. No new reviews had been posted before or even after our trip. This is very surprising considering that Nicole and Nelson have placed a guest book on a table near the front entrance for anyone to read or write in and there are pages and pages filled with guest entries since September 2006 raving about how wonderful the hotel is and how unforgettable their stay was. Many of the entries even reference TripAdvisor as how they heard about the hotel. Yet, not of these enthusiastic commending entries in the guest book every made their way to TripAdvisor.

If you’ve found TripAdvisor useful in helping you plan your trip, please contribute back just a little or a lot and PLEASE POST YOUR REVIEW, good or bad, of any of the places you stayed. Whether your review is short, long, or just rating your stay on a scale of 1-5, your current feedback WILL help others plan for a better trip. It helped us tremendously. Your feedback will also ensure that the places you love to stay remain as close as possible to the way you remember them to be when you had visited.

Well…my first review down, 2 more to go…enjoy the pictures!

We stayed at the Hotel Medio Mundo in August 2006. It was lovely and Bambu, the darling cat, charmed my daughter, age 20. The breakfast is very relaxing and lovely--served poolside. They really go out of their way to be helpful. Very nice rooms and they have guidelines to be followed by the guests for the enjoyment of all. Definitely not a place for the wild spring break type crowd. We also enjoyed "Merida en domingo" with all the craft booths in the plaza and the dancing in the streeets--by all ages!!

Exotic, charming, peaceful and delightful. The best place to read, love, relax in Mexico. We had a very wide room in front of the pool. And a wonderful host...Bambù, a princess of a cat, will teach you how to enjoy Mexican lifestyle!

With only a recommendation from a woman we met on the Merida city tour who told us "this place is wonderful", we rang the bell on the huge wooden double doors at Hotel Medio Mundo a week later looking for acommodations for the night. I could have stayed at week!

Within minutes of arriving you just feel the tranquility that surrounds and envelopes the place. The courtyard has lush plants and a wonderful fountain that soothes the senses. The colors used are brilliant! The rooms are huge and they offer king bedded rooms as well as rooms with two beds. Ours also had a twin bed in addition to the king bed.

We spent part of the somewhat rainy afternoon laying on the bed with the windows opens, ceiling fan on, listening to tinkling of the fountain. Heaven. For those of you who can't get along without a TV or phone, looks elsewhere for acommodation.

Breakfast was not included in the rate and was wonderful, although maybe at bit pricey at 80MP per person for an expanded continental breakfast. The melon juice was certainly unique. The owner was quite nice and very chatty. The location is great..just a few short blocks from the main plaza. They are also very security conscious and the front doors are locked at all times. There is someone on duty 24 hours so no problem with lockout if you have a late night.

The vibrant use of fresh color is hard not to love at MedioMundo. We stayed two nights in our charming large room that came equipped with a very comfortable king-size bed. A highlight of each day was the wonderful breakfast served on the pool patio. Unlimited rich coffee, followed by fruit, yogurt, rolls, jams and cheese--each course served on lovely china. The fluent English-language owners, Nelson and Nicole, are very welcoming and friendly. A wonderful value!

Not much more that we can add to the other reviews, but wow!
Gorgeous place, with fantastic staff and possibly THE most quiet and yet effective AC EVER!

The whole place is beautifully decorated, the location is close enough to town not to be a chore, but far enough to provide an oasis at the end of each day.

Beds are super comfy, pool is lovely and breakfast is delicious....honestly do not have one bad word to say.

NB. You have to go to the restaurant Albertos (details in the hotel info book). Really great building with lots of history, very friendly staff and superb food...best food (inc vegetarian options) throughout Mexico.
