First, even though we had prepaid and our room was guaranteed, I called ahead just to let them know we would be arriving late... 'no problemo' they said. When we checked in at 2:00 AM they said they had no rooms and that our room was being fumigated for bugs (which was a lie for their overbooking). They use that specific excuse to turn away people (we heard them use the lie the next day and the day after). Because they lie and overbook, you can not trust this establishment. Second, the location is BAD. Getting to & from the Plaza three blocks away is via a narrow 18" sidewalk that is littered with potholes, all this as buses zoom by. The center of Merida resembles a dirty border town and I could not recommend 'El Centro' for the average American tourist. If you have to stay in Merida, stay further out in the nice section of town along Paseo de Montejo. Third, if you need WiFi service to communicate or conduct business, forget it here; Internet service is totally worthless and they seem to not be too concerned with it working or not.

Loved, loved the Mision de Fray Diego. It's located about 1 1/2 blocks from the main square in Merida. Our room was incredible, we were in one of the "special" rooms. It's so cool to know you are sleeping in a room that's 400 years old. We were told the hotel was originally an orphanage. It really is as pretty as all the pictures. Once you get into the courtyard you would never know you are in the heart of a bustling city. The food in the restaurant was very good. We wound up eating breakfast & dinner there everyday since it was good, quiet, not too expensive, and so beautiful. The staff was helpful. The only reason I am not giving this hotel 5 stars is that our bedspread was a bit tattered. It didn't bother me, but it's an easy fix, so it should be fixed.

An oasis of peace and tranquility. Beautiful, charming and very comfortable. We stayed three nights at the hotel and had breakfast and dinner there, at the restaurant/bar located in the first garden. The meals were excellent and so was the friendly service.

Our room was pretty and clean and looked on the pool, on the first floor. It was very quiet, we never once heard traffic outside. The room was also appointed with all modern comfort such as internet, cable TV and AC. We also had the pleasure of swimming in the pool twice, very refreshing. Order a huge pitcher of sangria for only $8.00 and you will think you are in paradise!

The staff went out of their way to please us, even the person in charge of valet parking. I wished we asked him his name. He was a very pleasant man.

All in all, we couldn't have asked for anything better. The location was superb and the charm of the hotel was unbeatable. All this for an incredibly good price. We will be back at La Mision very soon!

Excellent location, close to the Main Square and Cathedral. Colonial residence converted into a charming small luxury hotel. The room overlooking to the gardens and fountain are beautiful but very noisy due to the proximity to the road. We asked to be moved and the hotel staff was very helpful. The rooms facing the pool located in a small garden are quieter, and still charming. Breakfast is served in the garden and the food is very good . I would highly recommend this hotel.

The courtyard is a welcome respite from the busy streets of Merida. We stayed in the junior suite for three nights. The hotel is a beautiful old building, and while it could use a bit of sprucing up, it was still quite nice and includes many interesting paintings and statues. Our room was big and airy, with comfortable sitting area and a big antique desk and armoire. The bed was not as hard as most in Mexico, but the linens were a bit rough. The worst thing was the bath...very little hot water and pressure, which was annoying after a long day of walking town. The best thing was the relative quiet from the noisy streets, and the location which made it easy to see the town.

We had 3 nights here in the Junior Suite. At first we were delighted with the hotel- turning off a scruffy road you enter a beautiful courtyard with fountain, with a smaller one behind with a pool. Our room was spacious- but that was the only positive. The large windows offered no sound proofing whatsoever, and as they overlooked the restaurant bar and the busy road the noise was horrendous- music and talking until 12, then traffic all night until 5 when the crashing and clinking of crockery heralded the laying up of tables for breakfast. Add in the constant drone of a loud aircon unit in the building next door and you can see why sleep was almost impossible
Other problems included non existant water-pressure in the shower, only intermittent hot water,a leaking toilet, torn curtain linings that let light stream through, and a safe that never worked, dispite us asking every day for it to be mended.
The breakfast was average, but the waiter was reluctant to let my husband have another tea-bag for a second cup of tea- he suggested he could use the first one again! They also refused to serve us at an outside table for dinner as they said it was too cold- we felt it plenty warm enough, and it was we who would be sitting outside. We ate elsewhere after that.
The reception staff were a little more pleasant than the restaurant staff, but still resolved none of our problems. They could not understand why we didn't like our room!
It was wonderful to move on to the peace and quiet of Hacienda Chichen
