Hacienda San Pedro Nohpat

My ten-year-old daughter and I ended up staying an extra night because we like this place so much. I felt like I was in a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel... in a faded but elegant old henequen plantation with secret stairways, colorful birds, friendly burros, fountains, butterflies and winding trellises. The owners couldn't have made us more comfortable - upgrading us to a two-bedroom suite and serving us a delicious - and speedy (rare for Mexico)- breakfast every morning so we could be on our way for the day. The hacienda is perfectly located - about 20 minutes outside Merida. There's a bus that runs into the city every 15 minutes, right across the street, or you can drive or taxi in. We found the bus the easiest. Driving anywhere from the hacienda is easy, because it's just off the main highway from Cancun... so you can easily get anywhere else you want to go in the area. It's a perfect place to stay if you want to combine touring the city with touring the ruins, cenotes, caves etc... in the countryside.

Other things I liked:
-staff was wonderful and made me feel safe and welcome
-quirky and fun
-nice animals that my daughter enjoyed
-lovely pools
-beautifully decorated with comfortable beds, great linens, lots of hot water. We slept really well.

This was our second year visiting the Hacienda. It was like we never left. Our needs were met immediately and we were treated as honored guests. The trip downtown in the tricycle is not to be missed. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet and make for a great night's sleep. We have started our months trip here for two years now and will continue to do so. It is a beautiful place and you will feel very comfortable.

We were very pleased with the beautiful Hacienda hotel and our modern, clean and comfortable rooms. The staff made us feel welcome as we relaxed around the pool and spacious grounds.
Just beyond the noise of Merida, we enjoyed the quiet nights at the Hacienda for sleeping. We will re-book when we next visit Merida.

We really needed to relax during this vacation, but we also wanted to travel and see a part of Mexico that was new to us. The Hacienda San Pedro Nohpat was the ideal place for landing, getting some rest, warming up from a hard European winter and doing our first steps in Yucatan.

I loved our beautiful, romantic room and waking up to the sound of unknown birds in the middle of a tropical garden. Everytime we walked through the park we discovered new plants and details of the building like for example the cross shaped bricks in the wall similar to those we had later seen in Mayan archaeological sites. This place is full of magic. The entire peninsula is, I guess.

If you are looking for a standardized place, this Hacienda might not be for you. However, if you are romantic like me, if you like to discover those little wonders and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere in one of the many spots to just sit down and watch, listen, smell, you will love it.

After three days we were ready, open and very inspired for all the other new things to explore during the rest of our precious two weeks of vacation.

We stayed at this gem of a Hacienda on a recent family vacation. Iona (the owner) is a super hostess, she makes you feel relaxed and right at home. The Hacienda itself is very comfortable, has a authentic feel and takes you back in time like no typical hotel can. The location is fanastic for exploring not just Merida but also Uxxmal and the ruins in the region. Our stay at this Hacienda was one of the best parts of our vacation in the Yucatan. We hope to be back next year!

This January marked our ninth year visiting the Hacienda San Pedro. We were met with enthusiastic hugs and handshakes from Iona and J.R., our hosts, and immediately began to feel relaxed and at home. The casual atmosphere makes you feel more like you are visiting with friends, rather than an impersonal hotel setting.

If you are looking for an archaeological site or a local restaurant, Iona will have plenty of suggestions. She can also get you hooked up with drivers, masseurs and other services to make your stay more pleasant.

The grounds surrounding this historic property are a riot of tropical vegetation, bordered by beautiful green lawns. There are also parrots, burros, and a friendly hacienda dog to keep you entertained as you stroll the property.

Breakfast is served on the front porch, overlooking the lawn and the village beyond the elaborate gates. There are two pools on the property, and many places to sit back, relax and soak up the ambiance.

All in all, it is a great place to stay, near Merida, ruins, other haciendas--in short, a perfect place to use as a base while exploring the area.

We had another totally enjoyable stay recently at the Hacienda, and continue to recommend it for a relaxing vacation to the Yucatan area. Like any other vacation property, the staff can add much to your vacation experience and also deserve recognition. Papa, the gatekeeper, will greet you, guide you into the property, and look after your bags. Roberto maintains the property and the extensive gardens. Miseal balances school with cleaning the pools and other outdoor maintenance. Lilia is in charge of housekeeping. Smiling Theresa is in charge of the kitchen and is day assistant. Iona, JR and Mike will host your stay and make sure all your needs are looked after. Together everyone at the Hacienda made sure we had a great time.
