“Couldn't Ask For More!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed 19 December 2013

My husband and I hate to tell anyone about this place because we want it to always be available for us. But honestly we haven't STOPPED talking about the Luz. The staff/owners are first rate!!! VERY clean at all times. We had the large poolside and couldn't ask for more. Pool was always clean and inviting. The liquor cart (gratis) was a welcomed attraction after a long day of touring, etc. Fresh bottled water supplied gratis again. Neighborhood is safe and close to anything you need. If you want to steep yourself into another era the Luz is for you. Open your mind and hearts to a new and different way of living (if ony for a little while). See the world in a brand new way. Experience the Luz!!! Thanks to EVERYONE for a wonderful experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This place is heaven...they have thought of details to make you feel special. The staff and owners are super friendly, and will go the extra miles in the name of hospitality.
They have put together a very useful 2 pager info about all you need when in Merida. The Kitchen, common areas, pool and liquor corner are all fantastic.
This place seems to be based on lots of trust in human relationships and that makes is a de-Light-ful.
Thank you guys for making me and my Mom feel so well and taken care of.

My wife and I stayed here for a week. Originally we had a small room in the back because it was all that was available when we booked. However another room became available, and we moved to it. Both rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was helpful throughout our stay. The location of the hotel is perfect for enjoying the historic downtown. There are kitchens in some of the rooms and a full communal kitchen is also available to use. Tom, the owner, is around and is very helpful. The staff is friendly and helpful. We have stayed in Merida a number of times at different hotels with varying experiences -- usually very positive. But, the Luz En Yucatan has been the best of all. We ate several meals across the street at the Cafe Club and rented a car from the parking area across the street as well. Both were good experiences as well.

Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful and made you feel welcome. The room had "character" four small rooms through doors and an outside walk. The hotel is well located for seeing Merida and other sites. One minor complent was that although everyone tried to give current info on buses and local transportation, it was rarely right.

Room Tip: Rooms are not symmetrially arranged. It is old nuns convert that was converted.

In this hotel - colonial house - everything is great - clean rooms in mexican style, air condition, refrigerator with welcome drinks ( it’s especially nice on a hot day ), coffee maker, drinking water cooler, WiFi. In our room there was a further terrace with a hammock.
The hotel's location is very convenient - just three blocks away from the zocalo. where the oldest cathedral on the continent is situated. In close proximity to the hotel are universities. shops, Indian market , cafes and restaurants. At the plaza Santa Lucia, which located at a stone's throw, often hosts live music show.
If you want to visit Chichen Itza, you can get to the bus station on foot in 20 minutes ( bus ticket can be purchased immediately before departure )
Don't miss the Universidad de Yucatan (in 1 block from the hotel) because of its style and folk festivals.
Two blocks from Luz is very popular Yucatecan restaraunt - Chaya Maya (one block to the zocalo, then turn the right). But the best Sopa de lima we tasted in a small restaraunt El Trapiche at the same street.
There are so many fine reviews, that I can’t add anything else:)))

If you stay here - you will not regret !

and much more!

Most excellent location, comfort, ammenities, and service! Feels as comfortable as being at home. I highly recommend without hesitation. The owner stops for coffee daily interacting with guests. He obviouly makes it his business to know what is going on from front desk with the guests. He stopped at the curb as we boarded the tour bus to offer good information regarding our visit to Uxmal and Kabah. The entire staff was equally personable.

I live in the Yucatan so I already know what a amazing place it is. But recently my sister came to visit and we needed a hotel in centro Merida. So we found this one on the net. I had already heard that is was amazing from friends, but really! It is amazing. The owner is so cool and you feel so comfortable there. The rooms are big and CHEAP. You will not even believe the prices. Perfect location. Everyone that works there is sweet. They go out of their way to help in every way.
PLEASE if you need a place to stay check this out I promise you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: All the rooms rock.
