“Just Like Home But Better”

My husband and I stayed at the Luz May 3rd though the 9th then stayed at Casa de Luz the 15th, 16th, and 17th. Tom and his staff are all wonderful and so helpful. We had 2 cold beers in our fridge upon arrival and the room was spotless. The location is excellent, right near Santa Lucia park, where they have live music and Mexican dancers on Thursday nights. You can walk everywhere in Centro. You feel like this is home and you are with your freinds!
This will be out go-to place in Merida and I already have another trip planned for Sept. and already booked at Casa De Luz. Highly Recommend.

Wonderful hotel with beautiful rooms, a cute pool and realy friendly staff.
We stayed in ten different hotels on our way from Mexico City to cancun in beautiful magic towns along the way.
The one in Merida was particularly nice with breakfast across the street.

Rooms with little terraces, private gardens, hammocks and big bathrooms.

One of the owners Tom, gave us directions to a "secret" cenote with his home made map in the middle of the jungle and we had a great time exploring it.

Just outside the busy part of the downtown and walking distance from the hot spots. A short drive from archeological sightseeing and the gulf of Mexico.

Don't miss this very reasonably priced gem.

Since you do an email contact with them potentially to reserve the room, the personnel is helpful and straightforward. There is no fee to reserve a room and there is NO FEE for cancellations, you just need to have the courtesy to inform you will not make it!
Upon our arrival, we received helpful information for "must" see sites alongs with a map and directions. Also, they give you a list of restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner! You do not need to look around. We tried three of their options, and the three of them were fantastic!
Once in our room, we got two free beers and also, you have a free bar (certain drinks only). The bar is a small table with some bottles for self serving in the lobby, this hotel does not have restaurant or bar.
We will definitely return to this hotel! Thx to all the personnel who made our visit more enjoyable!

We took a last minute trip to Merida, and took a taxi straight to the Luz hoping to get a room, as friends had given it rave reviews. After being buzzed in through the security door, we were welcomed warmly, and shortly shown to a room. Second floor in the back by the pool. It was exactly the kind of place we like to stay! There is a lime tree within arm's reach from the balcony, which went perfectly with the Coronas that showed up in the fridge each day! We spent a few nights there, then we had the pleasure of being moved to another room after our stay was unexpectedly extended. This one was ground floor also by the pool. Also beautiful. After the third extension, we were moved to the third story, accessed by a couple flights of stairs by the water fountain. All 3 rooms had a lot of outdoor space, including tables with umbrellas, chairs, and hammocks. This one had an extra large area, which is available to all guests, and separated from that room's area by a beautiful iron door.
We were absolutely blown away by the exceptional service we received, especially since we just walked in off the street with no reservations. Tom the owner, and all the boys made sure we had whatever we needed, and had great information about eating and attraction choices. They were very apologetic about moving us, but we were not put off in any way for having to move room to room, as we got to experience so much of this beautiful hotel. Every time I walked through the hallways, I saw something new. Be sure to walk slowly and take everything in.
There's a reason why this hotel has been number 1 for so many years! This is THE place to be, and I doubt we'll ever stay anywhere else in Merida.
All rooms we were in had a mini fridge, complete with Coronas, and a 5 gallon water dispenser. The beds were comfortable, and about 2 minutes after asking for extra pillows, the maid was at the door with them. Water pressure was great, with nice updated shower heads. Give the hot water a minute or two. There is a full kitchen available for use, and a formal dining room. Be sure to stop at the 'check-in cart' for a complimentary shot of liquor!

Room Tip: Any of the rooms by the pool are beautiful, with lots of outdoor space. Third floor and the penthous...

This place is simply the best...hands down. The staff and owners always go over-the-top by providing friendly, helpful service. We have stayed at Luz a LOT, and have never seen anything but a smile! The front desk staff, the housekeepers, the maintenance staff and the owners are always available and happy to answer any and all questions and make any and all arrangements. They call restaurants, schedule tours, give directions and make awesome suggestions...they will even help with Spanish homework! My husband and I always spend at least a few nights at Luz, even if we are renting a home in Merida for the Spring. It is the perfect way to start or end our trip in Merida. I am rarely impressed with customer service, but the wonderful folks at Luz en Yucatan exceed every expectation year after year. When we walk in we feel like we are home!

Everything you read in the enthusiastic reviews about this place is true.
We had a nice big room with everything you could ask for (even a hammock). They are totally relaxed (don't bother to secure your booking with a credit card) and the room rates are more than fair.

The place is centrally located yet completely quiet. Lots of restaurants just around the corner.
They don't offer breakfast but that is no problem at all. Just go across the street and there is a nice cafe. They offer you lots of advise so this is a definite "thumbs up". If you are looking for the ultimate luxury this might not be it but in terms of value for money this is hard to beat.

My husband and I recently spent a week in Merida at the Hotel Luz en Yucatan. We are not seasoned travelers, so while researching hotels to stay at, I was looking for something with local ambiance at which we could savor the Yucatan experience. Luz en Yucatan caught my eye, not only because of the beautiful pictures of the rooms, but the offerings of services as well. I sensed a sly sense of humor while reading the hotels description and decided to book a room. I am so glad I did. The hotel is located very close to the Grand Plaza as well as Santa Lucia Parque where shopping and good restaurants abound. My husband and fellow travelers also agreed that I picked the perfect place to stay for our third trip to Mexico.
Upon arrival very late at night, Manuel was very gracious and showed us to our room, saying we need to get a good night’s sleep after our long journey and leave the check-in and payment until morning. What a wonderful and thoughtful greeting. The next morning Donard checked us in and spent a good deal of time getting us ‘clued in’ to the Yucatecan way of life. We were given printouts of their preferred restaurants, most trusted shopping opportunities, as well as suggestions of how to avoid being scammed by the hawkers and street vendors that you will encounter. These helpful hints are invaluable, especially for those who are first-time Mexico travelers. We were also given information on sites to see during our stay. All very useful information accompanied by a map of the Centro and other publications.
The hotel itself is a beautifully restored/converted Colonial building that was once part of the Santa Lucia chapel next door. All the rooms are well appointed, while retaining the flavor of bygone days. Our first room, where we spent a week, was on the top floor and had an in-room kitchen and also included a private rooftop area complete with table and chairs and hammock. I feel this is the best room in the house. We spent our last night in a poolside room that had an entrance from the main hall as well as a private door to a small patio area and the pool. All rooms come with hammock chairs (I actually bounced myself to sleep one lazy afternoon) and/or full size hammocks for those lazy humid days. The filtered pool was in the center of the back garden and was so refreshing we spent several evenings just bobbing in the water visiting with other guests and relaxing with cold beers (waiting for us upon our arrival).
The garden areas are well tended and potted plants galore as well as a fountain that completes the feeling of seclusion and privacy amid the hustle and bustle of the city streets. In the hotel lobby there is also a gratis honor bar cart where one can sample many different alcoholic beverages.
The staff of the hotel are all kind, efficient and eager to make your stay a special one. They strive to make your stay as comfortable and carefree as possible. We had much assistance and advice from the well trained staff in regard to every concern we could possibly encounter. We wanted for nothing.
We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to avoid the cookie-cutter hotel experience while traveling the Yucatan at rates that won’t break your wallet. Thanks to Donard and Tom and all their support staff for a memorable stay. We would come back to the Yucatan just to spend more time in your lovely hotel.

Room Tip: The room with rooftop area is especially nice (private) but all rooms are highly recommended by us a...
