Stayed here for 3 days and loved it. We had a really spacious, comfortable room that opened onto a patio right next to the small pool. The staff were so helpful right from our emails when organising the trip to the minute we left. Several little touches, such as fresh ground coffee and a water dispenser in the room, good quality bed linen and help yourself tequila and liquers in the reception area, added to our great experience here. So glad we found this gem.

We just returned from Merida, Mexico, and want to recommend the Luz en Yucatan Hotel in centro (downtown) . This is a great small hotel that has a everything. Each room is decorated in a unique manner, and the entire staff is most helpful. We definitely will stay there again and have added it to our list of favorite hotels.

I selected this hotel because it was the best rated in the tripadvisor travelers' list. Overall, I can confirm the good quality of the site, but there are a few things you should know beforehand to avoid disappointment. The best asset of the hotel is probably the staff and owners - absolutely nice, friendly and helpful people. The structure is obviously carefully designed and taken care of (you may or may not like some arrangements, but it is just matter of taste). At first we were a bit annoyed by the lack of breakfast service, but then we discovered that 1) you can make your own coffee in any room, 2) you can prepare a full meal in the common area kitchen, 3) the cafeteria just across the street is fine for breakfast (very nice people). Some things you may not like: some of the upstair rooms are accessed by a quite steep and narrow stairway, if you have to drag up there a heavy suitcase you must be in good physical shape. In general, the upstair rooms are less attractive and less equipped (they are also cheaper). The front door is always locked, so when you arrive you have to ring up and wait for opening in the street, this may make you feel uneasy at night. However, the neighbourhood is apparently safe, and there seems to be little chance that someone passing by snatches your luggage. The price is OK, but not particularly cheap: there are several similar hotels in Merida with comparable and even lower prices (possibly they don't have the same wonderful staff)

As a family of five (children aged 13, 10 and 7) we are often expected to book two rooms or end up with one very cramped room. Here we had a spacious, cool room with excellent beds for all of us. A short walk from the main plaza its location is perfect, once through the door it is an oasis of calm with a great courtyard pool in which to relax.

When we wanted help and advice it was forthcoming and knowledgable, when we didn't we were left to enjoy ourselves unhassled.

Luz en Yucatan does not offer food but there is a perfect cafe for breakfast directly opposite the front door...good menu and good value.

We had a great stay at Luz en Yucatan....we stayed for 4 nights in one of the upstairs rooms that had two queen beds, a kitchen and a hammack. When we checked it, the room was not ready but they were more than happy to allow me to leave my bags with them and to use their internet or to go swim in the pool! We got into our room and it was spacious as well as clean. We loved the kitchen, and were able to walk to a nearby grocery store for food. The hotel is also located close to a few bars/clubs and it is near the zocalo. We were very happy with the pool and with the free tequila in the lobby all day every day. They also have a little collection of books downstairs which is great. We were given clean towels each day and toliet paper was provided. Our stay at Luz en Yucatan was great and I will definitely be going back again if I am ever near Merida!!

One of the best hotel experiences during our time in Mexico. The hotel is truly beautiful and the staff are so helpful and friendly. The owner waited for us until midnight when our bus arrived into Merida and was extremely friendly and courteous. Waking up to the beautiful courtyards and hanging plants really made our experience a memorable one. a must visit. ALSO, FREE WIFI!
