“Why did I bother....”
Reviewed 25 February 2014

I've passed by this place over the past three years and finally we tried it out.
Instead my meal was over cooked, soaking in water and it tasted awefulI. The rest of the five meals were also bland. The wait for service considering not many people were there extended into the rediculous. Even for Mexico standards... To end it on a high note ( sarcasim) the waiter tried to hide his tip so that he got paid double.
Our group was most disappointed....we visited 2-24-14

“"Leisure alfresco dining in the park"”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

A delightful cafe restaurant on the Pargue de Hidgalo at the Grand Hotel de Merida and a perfect place for leisure dining and people watching. This is not gourmet food but casual dining and a fun time is always a good experience. It was a Friday evening and the park was very busy. As we tend to dine earlier than most people in Mexico there was no problem getting a table.
The service was attentive without being pushy. Cocktail orders were quick to arrive and our food was served nice and hot. They started us with complimentary guacamole, freshly made salsa and tortilla chips.
My friend ordered the panuchos ( a native dish of the Yucatan served four to an order) and I had the lasanga which was really quite good and was accompanied by some fresh garlic bread.
Their cappucino was a perfect way to round out the dinner and continue people watching and enjoying the ambiance of the outsdoor cafe before heading off to a performance of the Yucatan Symphony.
We will most likely return for another enjoyable evening or perhaps lunch.

“Place to watch people on a pretty square with a good meal”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

Located on Parc Hildago, one block from the Grand Plaza is this sidewalk cafe in the Grand Hotel de Merida. Typical of a cafe in many European cities, it is a great place to watch the locals, the tourists and the many people selling their items you would probably never want. However.. We wnt there for dinner prior to the symphony which begins at 9 pm, wanting a meal close to the theater. At first glance we thought this was going to be a mistake, however, we were warmly greeted and allowed to select our table. Our waiter was cordial and greeted us quickly and making us feel welcome which usually does not happen in a very touristy location. The menu was limited to what you would expect from a restaurant such as this. Very fresh chips arrived with our drink order, along with a very nice salsa fresca. I ordered the panuchos and my partner ordered the lasagna. The panuchos (4) were some of the best I have had in Merida. They were quite flavorful and fresh, the pork was a very good balance of flavorings which allowed the taste of the meat. Ther tortillas stuffed with black beans were exellent, the oil from frying fresh, unlike many I have had. The red pickled onions were also very good, the right balance of sour orange and vinegar. My partners lasagna was homemade and appeared very good, he ate it all!
Yes, this is a tourist location, prices a little high but still reasonable, the food quite good, the service very good and in a location you can enjoy with a lot of activity around you. We will go back when going to the symphony since it is convinient, pleasant and has good food unlike many places in the area close to the symphony.

“People watching”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

They have Yucatecan, Mexican and Italian. The food is as good as I remembered from 14 years ago. Great location for people watching too and music the evenings.

“Lunch in Merida May 29, 2013”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

We had a fantastic stop for lunch at the Main Street Cafe in Merida. We sat outside on the plaza and had Maya shrimp with a local beer - Montejo. We sat under and umbrella and it was very comfortable.
