“Amazing Place to Stay”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

My Wife and I stayed here for 3 nights last week and we wished we had stayed for at least another couple of nights as it was an Amazing Place to stay!
It's beautifully restored down to the last detail and Robert and Michael who are the owners are great Guys. They give you a map on arrival with all the recommended restaurants and places to visit and this was really helpful for us and they include a great breakfast to set you up for the day ahead.
It's worth mentioning the bedrooms as well. They are also amazing! The King Bed was the best Bed we slept on the whole month we were away!
On our next visit to Mexico, we will include Merida again and stop at Villa Verde.

More than just a B&B, this comfortable boutique inn will leave you wanting to return to again and again. Located in the heart of the centro historico district, Villa Verde is beautifully restored and impeccably furnished with the added bonus of being located within walking distance to restaurants, parks, shops and the city's most beautiful street, Paseo de Montajo.

The hosts, both gracious and hospitable, served creative and delicious breakfasts each morning of our week long stay. They also served a complimentary dinner drink each night which was a perfect way to enjoy the company of other guests. It was a great start to the evening before dining at one of Merida's unique restaurants and then taking in the evening's entertainment in Merida's many parks.

Merida may be a little out of the way for some tourists, but the city is a wonderful place to see the history and the heart of Mexico. If you're lucky enough to visit Merida, you should make it a priority to stay at Villa Verde. It will give you a delicious taste of what makes this city unique.

All of my traveling companions agreed that Villa Verde is beautiful, but it meant nothing to me. I’m blind. So I’ll tell you how Villa Verde comes off from a non-sighted point of view. Besides, you can see the photos.
Once I passed thru the huge entry doors, I was aware of the total tranquility of the inner courtyard. The 20 foot walls completely block out any of the street noises, and the sound of the fountain in the inner court adds to the sense of peace. Our room (number three) faced onto the garden courtyard and the fountain was the only sound I could hear from our room. The common outside spaces beyond the covered walkway adjacent to the main rooms, including the lounge, the bar, and the dining area are comfortable and are great places to congregate for conversation. After passing thru the dining area, you descend five steps to the pool, which is in full sun and surrounded by comfortable furniture. Water splashing from a water feature into the far end of the pool, adds more texture to the auditory landscape at the back of the Villa. Just enough sound to mask other conversations across the pool. Perfect for poolside gossip! And the constant splash of water from the pool area and the front courtyard provided the perfect orientation system for me when it came to navigating around the place by myself.
Our room had incredibly high ceilings which contributed to the overall sense of grandeur of Villa Verde. The polished cement floors were so smooth that at first I mistakenly thought them to be polished marble, but the absence of seams was the tipoff that it was not. The floors added to the cooling effect, and the satiny surfaces were just right for floor exercises and yoga.
Finally, Chef Michael’s breakfasts were among the best breakfasts that I’ve had in any boutique hotel anywhere. Period. Michael and Robert, the proprietors, as well as the other staff maintained a welcoming and gracious tone thru out our two week stay. My only criticism is that the counter space around the bathroom sink is too small. An additional shelf might be in order for room three.
Our stay at Villa Verde was relaxing and comfortable, the grounds are cool and inviting, and the Villa itself is grand and stately. For the price, it’s a bargain to boot.

Villa Verde was our classy, elegant residence for our two-week exploration of Mérida and the Yucatan. This beautifully maintained place is worthy of an Architectural Digest photo spread. Staff was most helpful with suggestions for tours, restaurants, and museums. Breakfasts were superb. And what a bargain! Highly recommended.

Villa Verde Merida is a small Inn located in Centro/center of the city--a great location. Owners of the Inn are two of the most hospitable folks you will encounter in your travels. This small and charming Inn is beautifully furnished and each room I saw spacious and welcoming. The breakfasts on the open patio facing the pool---incredible. The staff could not be nicer. In addition, the owners were most helpful in assisting our small group with our side trips to the Mayan ruins and to the beautiful small city of Izamal. They were able to help us with reservations for Christmas Eve as well as New Year's Eve. We stayed at Villa Verde for two weeks and ate in a variety of restaurants throughout the city---the owners knew them all and provided us with a long list upon arrival. There was not a bad meal to be had. This is where you should make make your headquarters if you want to discover the city at your own pace because there is so much to see. My friends and I rate this as A+---Inn and one of the best places my friends and I have stayed in Mexico over the years. Thank you Robert and MIchael for your incredible hospitality and for the care you took in creating this Inn. And for introducing us to the Yucatecan people and their wonderful city. Happy New Year. We'll be back. wayne and bill from Ohio

Room Tip: all of the five rooms are fantastic; well furnished and comfortable and quiet

The owners worked really hard to set up a wonderful place. Beautiful court yard, ample rooms, decent breakfast. Several friendly pets greet you. The location is very convenient to both the main plaza and the glorious Avenida Montejo, with its gorgeous Parisian style grand mansions. For dinner, lots of good Italian and Yucatanean restaurants nearby. Be sure to try Chaya Maya.

We have just spent a week at Villa Verde. The villa is stunning and so peaceful. The rooms are gorgeous and extremely comfortable. It has a great location and everything is within walking distance. Robert and Michael are wonderful hosts. They are most helpful with local suggestions.
