It's understandable to be anxious about choosing the right hotel in Mexico. We took a leap of faith and were very fortunate to have found this wonderful hotel in the heart of Merida. Clean and quiet rooms, amazing customer service from the knowledgeable staff and a great location! This really is a great place to stay, you won't be disappointed!

We choose this hotel for it's proximity to the main tourist sites, the modest price and available street parking.

What works: The room was nice and roomy. The vibe was quiet and mellow. There was just the two of us but there was an extra bed which could easily accommodate a family. We were upstairs in a sunny room facing the street. But it's a quiet street so the ambient city noise didn't bother us. The staff was very nice. The breakfast had great variety and was delicious.

Needs work: Not sure if it was the hotel or the whole city, but I kept catching whiffs of septic smell during our stay-- like the bathroom pipe venting wasn't working quite right. But I also noticed it elsewhere in the city so I don't know if it was an isolated event or chronic (since other don't seem to be mentioning it in their reviews).

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms are much cheaper but the can be dark and not as well ventilated as the upstairs...

Found this hotel from reviews and was very pleased. Great location in central Merida a few minutes walk from the main square, nice restaurants and shops. Got some great advice from Fernando behind the desk, he was always willing to help with directions to good places to eat and where to visit generally. The rooms and breakfast area are nicely decorated with bright colours one might associate with Mexico. Air con is set at 24deg which was fine for us but might be annoying if you feel the heat a lot and loo paper can't go down the toilet, again not a problem for us. The canadian owner was also very nice and helpful when my friend got worried about a small cut on his knee and gave us directions to the doctor. We had a large 4x4 and there was plenty of street parking nearby, they even reserve a small area outside the hotel. Overall a very pleasant hotel with a great location and friendly staff.

The staff were as helpful and friendly as can be from the moment we stepped out of the taxi in front of Hotel del Peregrino. Jim, Fernando and Jorge gave great advice on how much to pay for taxis, where to catch the bus, where to eat and go--you name it, if they didn't have an answer they'd find out for you. They booked us on a terrific tour to Uxmal. When my kids got tired of seeing ruins, Jim gave us spot-on advice to visit the cenotes in Cazumal--and the kids loved them! We were also delighted by Irma's special touches in our room.
The hotel is 7 blocks away from the main square and walking back we found lovely stores along the way, like the local artisan store and the chocolate store. Breakfast in the nice courtyard was a great deal and gave us a chance to meet other travellers and find out where they enjoyed visiting. We were able to use the kitchen after 11 am, which was helpful when my kids just wanted instant noodle for dinner.
Thanks everyone at Hotel del Peregrino for making our Merida stay so memorable.

Perfectly located in the heart of the historic district, Hotel del Peregrino is a 5-10 minute walk from lively restaurants, bars, and shops, and Paseo de Montejo (a rather grand 'main strip').

Parking is available on the street, although there's limited spaces, but these increased in number after office hours. We always managed to find a spot close to the hotel.

Reception staff were friendly, welcoming, and very informative about the city. Our room was on the top floor (of two), with a lovely communal area just outside our front door, overlooking the courtyard/breakfast space. Room was clean and conveniently sized. TV/AC/safe/free wifi/comp water.

Breakfast was fine (and incl. in the price of the room) - fruit, cereal, toast, yoghurt, coffee, juices.

Overall, for what we paid, we were very pleased with our stay, and would recommend this hotel to others.

On a final note ... we were travelling with a dog, and the staff were extremely helpful in making sure she was cared for. They gave her water, allowed her in the communal area to cool down, and the owner of the hotel, Jim, kindly offered to babysit her for an hour while we walked around town. Shamefully, she was a rather naughty girl and scratched his back door to shreds, but despite this, Jim was incredibly forgiving, and assured us we were not to worry. Thank you, Jim! From us, and Dolly Parton the Doberman.

Room Tip: I personally wouldn't stay on the lower ground, right outside the breakfast area. First floor is...

For me, the highlight was the staff. Fernando was there nearly all the time to offer advice about good places to eat and provided us with directions and maps so we could drive to visit the nearby Uxmal ruins (highly recommended, much quieter than Chichen Itza and you can actually climb to the top of the biggest pyrimid!).

In addition, I had some trouble with my leg getting infected while I was there. I was worried about getting medical attention away from home however the owner was there the day we left and provided me with excellent advice on where to see a doctor and how to get my hands on some antibiotics. Could have really spoilt my holiday but Hotel del Peregrino saved the day!

Also the rooms are spotlessly clean and well furnished. Good air conditioner and fan for comfortable night's sleep.
