“Lovely Little Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2014

My husband and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at Hotel del Peregrino. Fernando checked us in and was very helpful answering questions and also helping us telephone a hotel near Uxmal to book our next room. Jim, the owner, was also around each morning, and he was extremely helpful. He had good insights into what kind of activities we would like, and came up with some great recommendations.
The hotel is on a quiet block, but really only a ten minute walk from the main plaza. Street parking is available and pretty easy to find if you have a car.
The inside of the hotel is so pretty. The courtyards are pleasant, and nicely decorated, especially the one on the first floor. Everything in the hotel is extremely clean. The only negative is that our room was a bit crowded, There were 2 double beds and a single in it, and you had to be careful moving around to make sure you didn't bump into something.
Breakfasts were continental style with many choices. We were able to eat enough to hold us till lunchtime. There was always plenty of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, toast, and a ham and cheese pastry.
Guests at the hotel are able to use a hostel's pool a few blocks away, All you need to do is ask for a pass at the desk. It is worth doing. The outdoor setting is very nice, and the pool is fed by a natural spring, and is quite refreshing.
We are happy we stayed at Hotel del Peregrino.

Nice little hotel about 10/15 mins walk from the main square and cathedral.
It's fairly basic but clean. Very helpful staff. Wifi a bit hit and miss. Upstairs rooms (for me) better than downstairs. Overall good budget hotel.

Exceptional value with exceptional service and quality; a winning combination. Hotel del Peregrino offers very good rates but goes way beyond in many other areas. For example, the hotel was spotless and well maintained. Also Jim the owner, a very nice and helpful man, did a fantastic job at remodelling this once colonial home. Also, his staff were wonderful. I have never met such helpful people in all Mexico. We can't wait to go back next year.

We were 5 people in 3 rooms of this 13 room small hotel several blocks from the Plaza Mayor in Merida during the last week in Jan, 2014 and enjoyed our stay very much. Nice breakfast provided each day with kitchen access through mid day.
There's an upper courtyard we used in the late afternoon each day. There's a jacuzzi up there, too; looked good, didn't try it.
You're a 5-10 minute walk from the square and as close to Plaza Montejo, a great city walk, especially on a Sunday when it's delivered over to the public for biking and strolling. That's blemished only by the unavoidable notion that all the old mansions are owned by huge banks. What don't they own now, here and everywhere??
The desk help is outstanding. Rooms, while basic, all have a double bed and 2 singles. Excellent shower, too.
I've surely missed a few points here but wanted to recommend this hotel for the kind of travelers we were/are- tourists interested in seeing and getting to know a lovely colonial city away from noise and near the points of interest.
I'll also mention that I got the best rate for the reservation on Expedia, which rarely seemed competitive to me in the past.

This is a very basic but pleasant hotel and good value for the money. The breakfast is great (cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, some pastry style bread items stuffed with ham and cheese eaten on an outer patio - self-service. The staff is great! A special mention goes to Fernando, the night time desk clerk, for responding to every request and question in the most helpful and courteous manner - and I asked him LOTS of questions. The owner is Canadian and is also very friendly. Note that the downstairs rooms have no windows and you pay insignificantly more for upstairs rooms. Also note that prices quoted are for cash only - credit card payments cost significantly more. Location is not far from the center but on a street that has nothing else on it at all. A/C and fans control the room temperature. A TV in every room but if you don't speak Spanish, the English channels are not worth watching unless you like dumb sitcoms. Wi-fi is sometimes spotty but it's there and sometimes just needs rebooting. Colonial style bathroom with plenty of hot water. Hair dryer can be borrowed from front desk. No phones in the room. Tours pick you up from the hotel. Only 14 rooms. Upstairs terrace is nice for sitting outside. A very nice thing about this hotel is kitchen access for preparing your own meals if you choose to do so and for bringing back leftovers from restaurants, putting them in the refrigerator and reheating them in the microwave later.

This review comes late, but better late than never. Within the past year, I have stayed at this wonderful hotel 3 times, and am looking forward to a fourth stay in February. The hotel is located within a safe (at any hour) easy walk from the historical district. The staff is second to none, and I travel extensively, mostly on my own. They are friendly, helpful, and put up with my still very poor Spanish when I can croak out enough words. The accommodations are clean and beautiful, with air conditioning for those of us unused to the daily heat. Breakfast, while described as continental, is more than enough to make a good start for your day, with yoghurt, fruit, cereal, coffee and these little sandwich-y things - I have no idea what they are, you'd think I should have asked by now, they are sweet and savoury at the same day and I could eat a plateful of them on my own.

There are many restaurants nearby to choose from, I try to stay local and authentic if possible, but you can have pretty much whatever you want. Merida itself, is cleans, safe and beautiful, and is a city that I feel most comfortable in whether on my own or with friends.

Hotel del Peregrino makes a fine base for exploring the beauty of this area. It continues to be my home away from home while in Merida. With lovely, clean accommodations in close proximity to the historical centre, and caring staff who will look after your needs, you can't go wrong by staying here.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground level room if you have wonky knees or hips. They are still very quiet in spite of b...

My Belizean family and I spent the Christmas holidays there in 2013. The service was pleasant and professional. We met the owner and the concierge. They were both very friendly. While we were there our transportation back to Belize changed suddenly. We had to scramble to change our time we had planned to spend in Merida. The owner and his staff went above and beyond accommodating us. With their help we were able to save money, organize an excursion, rebook and confirm our transportation back to Belize. They even had our tickets delivered for us to the hotel. I can't thank them enough for their help.

The hotel itself was not only beautiful but it was also very convenient. Because of the hotel's location we were able to walk everywhere. My sister and I enjoyed the Jacuzzi after a long leisurely day of walking the town. The rooms were nice, clean and very comfortable. The continental breakfast is enough to get your day started and they allow you to use their communal kitchen. If you get hungry, there are lots of places to eat near by and some of them deliver. I would highly recommend this hotel. I'm definitely staying at the Peregrino the next time I visit Merida Mexico.

Room Tip: We booked a non-smoking double occupancy room. Our room was located upstairs and was quiet and fille...
