We learned of Cascadas through Tripadvisor: and what a find! Everything about Cascadas is wonderful. it was built by our host, Chucho on the site where he grew up and where his grandparents lived. it is beautifully designed: the four casitas are attractive, comfortable, well-appointed with all the mod cons, very quiet, and spotlessly clean. The casadas are attractive and the sound is soothing and fresh. Ellyne, our hostess, is amazing. She made us feel like guests in her home (which we were). Ellyne is a font of knowledge about everything and very generous about sharing her advice and assistance in planning where to eat, and where to go, and what to see, and Yucatan and Maya history and custom, and etc etc. The breakfasts are THE BEST - pitchers of fresh orange juice, lots of cut up fresh fruit and mango yoghurt and good tasting granola and frijoles and eggs and typical delicious cooked local specialities. Nine days (Dec 29 - Jan 7) were not enough: There is so much to see and do in Merida and then to have Cascadas as our base ... Fabulous!!!! My husband and i had not been to Merida in more than 50 years. Why didn't we return sooner??!!?

Located in central Merida and an easy 15-20 minute walk from the main plaza, key features of this lovely B&B which made our stay so pleasant was (1) the friendly and knowledgeable owner, Ellyne, and her wonderful staff, (2) the delicious breakfast spread which varied each day, and (3) a remarkable waterway encircling the property and floor to ceiling glass bathroom walls that overlook waterfalls. I loved spending the day visiting the ruins or exploring Merida but being able to escape back to this oasis. Highly recommended.

We just got back from one of our favorite places in México....Mérida. This time we stayed in a lovely B & B very conveniently located in the beautiful Santiago neighborhood and only about a 15 minute walk from the central plaza. Since we were arriving late on Christmas Eve, Ellyne (the innkeeper) had already warned us that it might be hard to find any restaurant open for dinner. Knowing that, she had some beautiful homemade tamales waiting for us and even gave us a slice of her mother-in-law's delicious flan! Ellyne, her husband, Chucho and their staff, were such wonderful people and very gracious hosts during our entire stay. Our room was very large and inviting with a view of the pool and we loved the sound of the waterfalls (cascadas) all around us. Ah.....and the breakfasts......they were fabulous!!! The food was so delicious, the coffee amazing and the coversation with all of our fellow travelers, lively and fun. We really met some interesting people during our stay, which made it even more fun. We highly recommend this lovely place and look forward to our return visit in March. Thank you Ellyn, Chucho and staff!!!

We just got back from a trip to Merida which was full of people for the Christmas season as well as the end of the Maya calendar....We were lucky enough to have booked at this charming, small hotel which was like an oasis in the city. Walking distance to the central plaza but peaceful and a great place to rest and relax. Each morning we were served a delicious breakfast, which even accommodated our special dietary needs, and in the evening complimentary wine or beer. The owners are very helpful and made every effort to make our stay a pleasant one. We will definitely return to this little jewel in the city.

We had a lovely visit. Ellyne was full of information and friendly advice which was so helpful. Our room was great with the pool right outside. Breakfasts were amazing with good company. The location was quiet yet an easy walk to many historic sites and restaurants. Highly recommend.

Quiet and perfectly and perfectly appointed. Ellyne and Chucho are so warm that it feels more like staying with family than a hotel.
The rooms are spacious; the shower has an outdoor feeling. The air-conditioning is quiet and efficient. Ellyne and Chucho are so warm that it feels more like staying with family than a hotel. The breakfasts are superb, fresh produce and a freshly cooked breakfast when you are ready for it.

Thank you soooo much to Ellyne and the team for making us feel at home in Merida !! We had a nasty incident in Mexico City which left us quite shaken up, and we couldn't wait to get out of there. When we got to Merida we weren't sure what to expect but Ellyne's hospitality made us feel like we were on holidays again. Thank you !
From the outside, Cascadas is an unassuming house on a quiet residential street in the historical part of Merida. On the inside, it is a beautiful haven consisting of 4 freestanding rooms surrounding a deliciously inviting pool.
The rooms are a lot of fun (bright, breezy, spacious, comfortable), the property is clean and well maintained, and the breakfast is amazing! There's also beverages in the fridge which can be enjoyed anytime. There was nothing better than having a beer and taking a refreshing dip in the pool after a (very) hot day of sightseeing.
Location wise, Cascadas is about 15-20min stroll to Zocalo where you can find great restaurants. For those who prefer not to walk in the sweltering Merida heat a taxi ride is very cheap.

If you are tired of staying in hotels with no personality then we'll highly recommend Cascadas. For what it lacks in room service and a big fancy lobby it makes up for in overwhelmingly great service.
