Only 8 rooms and the street and frontage belies this small hotel's rustic charm. The property is in the historic colonial heart of Merida, about ten minutes walk from the main square. We had Room 1 for 2 nights from which we could step onto our own patio with hammocks and then a few paces further to the small pool with seating and 4 sunbeds, a lovely place to cool off after a day's sightseeing. Run by a small number of staff and sometimes one has to wait for attention but they are obliging and friendly. Our room was spacious with a huge comfy bed, air con, ceiling fan, a walk in wardrobe and strong free wi-fi throughout. The bathroom is spacious with double sinks and a huge shower space. No evening dining which is no bad thing but a good either continental, American or Mexican breakfast is available. We left at 03,00 and they provided juice and croissants for us. There is a well stocked bar and the barman produces a mean Bloody Mary at a very reasonable price. Very enjoyable place to stay.

Room Tip: Room 1 is perfect

The Hotel Hacienda has been converted relatively recently from an inner city site with unusual panache and good taste. It is on a busy street a few blocks away from the Plaza Grande but once inside the front door the bustle outside is a world away. Parking is provided in a lot about 100 metres from the hotel. There are only 8 rooms and ours was the one featured in the photograph immediately overlooking the pool, a huge stylish room with bathroom, dressing room, and double hammocked balcony. It had a superking size bed which we found rather hard. Breakfast is not included but at 60 pesos is unbeatable value. It is taken under the arches next to the pool, immaculately (although rather slowly) served on white china, and on two of our three days was deliciously fresh. The hotel feels like everyone's idealised image of a Mexican retreat from the busy city. There is a v.i.p. version of the same hotel two doors down the street, with only 6 rooms, and some people might like to investigate that..

Room Tip: Numbers 1 and 3 look out over the pool, but the others looking into an inner courtyard, may be equally charming,.

Great hacienda hotel. Very attentive staff - Efraim and Jonathan - very helpful. Nice breakfast and reasonably priced. Location near to town square but very quiet. Luxurious feel to the place. Great poolside vibe. Highly recommend this establishment.

Step off the busy street and enter a peaceful world: with just eight rooms and a small pool, this little hotel is an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful historic city of Merida

Rooms are very comfortable, spacious and cool( try for room 3 overlooking the pooll)

Staff are soooo helpful and they serve a mean margarita

Enjoy!

Let me start out by saying - Merida is one amazing city! We were lucky to be there in January, which happened to be the month where every night, the city sponsors entertainment free of charge. Events are planned frequently by the local gov't making Merida one of our favorite cities throughout our travels in Mexico. Make sure you check out Yucatan Today before heading down for a listing of all the activities available.

HHM was a quick walk from the main square, restaurants and all the evening events. We enjoyed the walk back to the hotel every night after dinner or the free entertainment. The hotel was lovely, comfortable and reasonably priced. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Don't be dismayed by the buildings across the streets with their "for sale sign" - this is something you will find throughout all of Mexico.

My only gripe is that while the hotel has a lovely pool, I never felt comfortable getting in as it looked like bugs like to plop into it. Otherwise, it was one of my favorite hotels through my month long travel.
