“You get more then what you pay for”

I expected a very basic, no frills, a step above a hostel for what we paid. We got an amazing location near the beach and right in the middle of the shops and restautants, free WiFi in common areas, free breakfast (basic of eggs, toast, cereal and coffee...perfect for me...and its free remember), air conditioning (which I didn't realized we had til night 4 because we didn't expect it) and every single employee was super nice. Yes there's ants here and there and its VERY noisy at night because of the bars and clubs but I solved it by listening to my headphones to easy listening at night.

If you must stay here it would only be because you are on a very low budget. the language classes have nothing to do with the quality of the hotel. dangerous balconies falling apart, lack luster breakfast & rude staff in the office, air conditioning that is so polluted that i am being medicated for bronchitis, showers and toilets that barely work. the hotel seems quiet in the day, but you are next to the noisiest bar on 5th avenue which goes until 2am every night. and i mean every night. if you enjoy partying & don't care about the bony tiny beds & lack of general maintenance this is the place. my friend is 6'1" and he had to rest his head on the head board to fit in bed. the WIFI may as well not exist as guests struggled to get online even for a quick skype phone call. i was unable to do my online classes the entire stay. also the 'public fridge' that is for guests is leaking freon and has black mold like the dickens. its amazing how this manager doesn't see the value of going to THE LOCAL DISCOUNT SUPERMARKET to get a new one. the water coolers are filthy at the spigot. between the school and hotel, they are making plenty enough to pay for new amenities. the only person working here is the housekeeper. if you must stay, TIP the housekeeper. if it wasn't for the ONE housekeeper there would be no hygiene whatsoever. i would not stay here again. NO.
p.s. the management has indeed changed. it used to be swiss.

Playa lingua offers an excellent opportunity to be productive by learning spanish in the awesome academic environment that is very conveniently located just a minute or two from your room! But not before you enjoy the delicious daily breakfast that is served to start the day right! After all the learning in the morning one of the worlds best tourist destinations(5th AVE) is literally less than a block away the location of this property is perfect! The beach is absolutely beautiful and the list of attractions in this area is way to long to list, but a few that I enjoyed in the afternoons after school was kitesurfing, scubadiving, tennis, golf, salsa dancing, ancient ruin touring just to name a few! You must make your stay in Playa Del Carmen a productive and pleasurable one and the sure way to do that is stay with Playa lingua it is a place you will not want to leave, the staff make you feel like you are at home!

I can't believe anyone would be dissapointed in Playa Lingua unless it has drastically changed since I have been there. As a former spanish major I found the classes to be very well put together. There were a variety of different types of travelers. I went during low season so most were European at that time. It makes class very interesting since there were so many different types of people who spoke various languages. Ages of students ranged from 17 - 50+ the school has its own Internet cafe with afforadable rates.

As far as the dorms go my dorm was extremely clean I booked a double with private bath normally you have a roommate but I never got one. The room had two twin beds, tile floors, desk, sliding glass door with balcony, walkin shower was tiled, clean and decent sized. Nothing fancy but still nice and very affordable. Daily maid service was included in the price I stayed for about 2 weeks with semi intensive coures for a little over $660 USD.
Daily breakfast was included and usually consisted of scones, fresh fruit, eggs prepared any way you want, fresh OJ and lots of other goodies. Theres also a small pool, lounge chairs, and hammocks in the courtyard. The courtyard is pretty relaxing as seen in the photo.

The staff: I found the instructors, maids, gardener and security guards to all be very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. Even before my arrival in PDC ann answered all of my questions via email promptly.

Other: things are always changing in PDC but when I was there the laundry, exchange booth and an internet cafe were around the corner. We also got in free at the blue parrot beach club by showing our Playalingua IDs

Over all I had a great time and met some wonderful people at Playa Lingua
