“Our Royal Hideaway Wedding!”
Reviewed 13 March 2014 via mobile

Our Travel Agent booked out trip to Mexico to this resort because we wanted to get married there. Karina was the resort wedding planner. She was great and the wedding was wonderful. I would greatly recommend this resort and Karina as your wedding planner. Our wedding on the beach was just like I imagined it would be....beautiful!!! The resort was very beautiful and clean and the staff was very friendly. I can't say enough about the food we had. My taste buds were in paradise....I loved every meal that I had!!! Wish I could get the recipes! So if you want to get married in Mexico...I recommend Karina at the Royal Hideaway. She will take good care of you and all your wants and needs. My husband said it was painless because she took care of everything! All we had to do was show up!!! Kudos Karina and the Royal Hideaway in Playacar...excellent job!

We just returned from an amazing week at the Royal Hideaway! The resort was beautiful and quite luxurious. The rooms were comfortable, well-maintained and had plenty of space. The beach and pool areas were beautiful, with plenty of seating, but the best seats tend to get taken early in the morning. We especially loved the cabana tents on the beach! The layout of the resort is great - the rooms are in small villas (each one has its own concierge to help you with anything you need!) and the restaurants are clustered near the lobby at one end of the resort and by the beach on the other end. There are several pools scattered around the resort, in addition to the two main pools by the beach. We didn't take advantage of too many of the activities during the day, but we did rent bikes and play tennis on a few of the mornings.

The food was probably the best food we have ever had on vacation (and definitely the best food at an all inclusive). The variety of restaurants and menus at each restaurant totally exceeded our expectations. Each meal seemed better than the last! The service at the bars and restaurants (and at the entire resort) was superb - we were always greeted by name and everyone was so friendly.

If traveling back to Playa del Carmen, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

Room Tip: Villa 27 was in a great location near the pools and beach!

The Royal Hideaway was a very nice boutique-style hotel in the center of the Playacar resort area near Playa del Carmen. The resort is adults only, which was a requirement of ours this time after staying at Barceló last time we were in the area, two years ago. It has roughly 200 rooms so it has a nice, smaller feel to it with all the benefits of a Mexico all inclusive. It was between this and Secrets Maroma but this was about $1500 less so we chose to go here. Another time if money isn't an issue we may choose Secrets Maroma but we were trying to keep our trip around $5,000 for a week in February and we did that with this resort.

The rooms are very nice! The room was decorated very nicely with an upscale Caribbean feel to it. We were in villa 23 which was a great location. We were one villa back from the pool and beach so we weren't in the thick of things. I prefer being closer to the pool then the reception area since we spend most of our time there. The bathroom was very well appointed with a rain shower and separate tub. There is a storage closet for your bags and clothes inside the bathroom and a private toilet area with a door. The balcony was large enough to take room service outside and enjoy a meal if you choose to do so. The only "complaint" we had about the room was the paint peeling on the balcony areas that made it look a little worn. We found out during our stay that they are in the middle of a two year renovation project to work on the paint weathering around the resort. They were actually doing one of the balconies while we were there and they were hand-scraping the balcony and making virtually NO noise at all. It was nice to see the care they were taking to get it fixed. This did not detract from our experience so I don't see it as a big concern or something I would say you should wait until it's finished before visiting.

The pool and beach area is lovely! They chairs are great and have a nice thick padding on each of them and beach towels are laid out each morning. I elected to go down and secure two chairs around 7:00 a.m. each day to make sure I got the pool with the ocean front view. Each chair has it's own side table and umbrellas are up over every other chair. The resort was full and it seemed like most people were comfortably seated in the areas where they liked to be, beach or pool. I didn't see people fighting over chairs like you do in the bigger all inclusives. The beach is big and expansive here and one of the reasons I like this Playacar area so much. There are nice chairs and cabanas available on the beach. There are aqua aerobics every day at 11:30 and a couple of days there were Spanish lessons. There is bingo and ping pong too so they keep things interesting but they still manage to keep these things fairly quiet so the people who don't want to participate aren't annoyed.

The restaurants were good -- we ate at Azia twice because we liked it so much. Las Ventanas is the signature restaurant but the more adventurous menu and probably not a place you would want to eat more than once or twice. We avoided The Grille for dinner because we heard a few complaints about it. The Deck and Spices are both good for breakfast and lunch but if I had to pick I would say The Deck is best for breakfast and Spices is best for lunch. Our servers at each restaurant were wonderful. There is no buffet except for breakfast at Spices. Each restaurant requires a reservation and I recommend making reservations in advance, otherwise you will struggle to get the places you want. Our travel agent helped us with this about two or three weeks before we left. I recommend eating downtown in Playa del Carmen at least once or twice instead of at the resort for something fun. One of our favorite restaurants downtown is Casa del Agua which is a fantastic seafood restaurant with amazing service!

We did the chef's table one night which was a 12 course, private dinner prepared by the executive chef of Las Ventanas. It was $250 per person but there is also one for $200 for 6 courses as well. The meal is prepared for you inside the kitchen in a private room with a glass window for you to watch all the action. The chef comes in and introduces himself and each course he prepares he explains what the inspiration is and why he chose it. It was truly a culinary adventure! If you are looking for something extra special one night, this is definitely worth the money. Wine pairing is included.

The grounds of the resort are very relaxing with a series of small bridges that undulate over ponds down towards the pool area. The lobby area and reception area are quiet and exclusive feeling when you enter. There are bikes available at the pool stand and it's fun to ride around Playacar to explore on them. I particularly like going down the side streets to see the villas and private residences. The resort is quiet and friendly. It is not a place for partiers looking to stay out at all hours of the night. It's definitely fun and there are activities but unwinding is more the speed here.

Overall this trip was very fun and the resort is definitely a place we would return to. I usually like trying different locations but for the price of this resort versus other adults only all inclusives in the area, you get a lot for your money here.

A fairly last minute decision to seek warmer and dryer weather and we travelled to Mexico for the first time. The layout of the hotel is very good with low-rise buildings in garden settings. We had requested a ground floor garden room and were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves upgraded to an ocean view room. Good size pools right by the beach but for those not interested in pool activities there are quite pools in the grounds which are great for relaxing. Beach is fantastic, wide coral sand plenty of sun beds with your own canopy. Restaurant reservations can be a bit of a problem but the Concierge in our Villa (24) was able to get us a table at each of the restaurants at reasonable times. The hotel is quiet in the evenings which suited us and the vast majority of the guests who were there for a relaxing break (even the two honeymooning couples). Services is first class. Nothing appeared too much trouble and the regular visits from the waiters on the beach were very welcome. We found the standard of food and its presentation to be very good. If you want busy night-life this may not be the hotel for you but we would thoroughly recommend it if you want a week away from the pressures of work or in our case the gales and flooding in the UK.

Room Tip: If you not considering a suite or ocean view then we would suggest a central garden view room facing...

Excellent service, surprisingly good food and an ideal week of doing nothing but out! vegging out. We were so lazy that we only made it to the spectacular beach three times in a week! There is not much to do at night, but it was perfect for what we wanted - a week of doing nothing but relaxing!

Room Tip: Try to get building 25 - It is central and quiet, but any building will dol

This hotel is on a great location and the beach is spectacular. It basically stops there. The accommodations are appalling and not even close to a five star hotel. The Riu Palace a few doors down blows this place away in every way. Food should always be available at an all inclusive hotel, but not here. Stick to room service for breakfast because the wait for the buffet is long. Lunch is nice at the grill, but takes about an hour. Dinner is main issue. There is no buffet and the dinner reservations are not easy to get, since most people apparently make them wen they book the hotel. Unless you like a 10:00 dinner and you won't have your choice, room service is the only alternative. The food isn't even that good and the portions are very small. Drinks are not readily available either. Ther is one bar an if you want a cup of coffee at 5:00, room service is your only option. Forget about getti an ip tells or the beach or a beach chair, unless you get up at 6am to reserve it. The atmosphere is extremely dull. You can hear music playi near surrounding hotels and at this one, there is poolside bingo. It doesn't have to be like spring break, but it shouldn't feel like a nursing home on the beach either. I down most f the trip waiting for food, trying to get an umbrella and a reservation and lastly, I spent tons of time trying to flush the toilet in my room. These are not five star or even three star accommodations. I complained about a few of the issues and the hotel did nothing. The topper was that e concierge never picked up our luggage when we called 40 minutes in advance. My husband had to carry everything out and remember this hotel has no elevators. Save your money and go j the Riu Palace or find a real five star hotel!

Just returned after 7 nights which was long enough, the hotel is well kept and the service is good. We had read trip advisor beforehand so had all of our restaurants booked beforehand ... you really need to do this, otherwise you will be eating at 9pm. The service was very good, but the resort is very dead at night so don't expect nightlife, the pluses Carlos, David and Elvis legends.... always there around the pool and poolside Bingo was the highlight,
The downside that there were some 14 year olds around thought that it was adults only ???
The resort was quiet at night and we never had any problems sleeping etc......
The only downside was a group mixed people arriving on their "Spring Break" and taking over the hot tubs, drinking to much and playing loud music, several of course complained but nothing was done ........
The beach is great, and the food perfect ......

Wouldn't go back but had a fab time
