We visited Sandos ftom the 18th of December to December 25th and overall we had a great vacation. The only problem we had was with checking in and the room the first night was way to far from the beach, so we asked to be moved because we asked for ocean view and close to the beach, so the next morning we did get the rooms we ask for which were great with ocean view. The main pool was too busy with lots of kids so if you like a little bit quiteness the 15 min walk to the adult pool is where to go and the beach is beautiful. Food is ok, just like anything you get tired of it. Would go back and definitely get the room closes to the beach but not at Christmas too many little kids.

We stayed at Sandos from Dec 9-14. We chose the Adult Only section since we were traveling without our teenagers and were looking for a very peaceful and quiet vacation. Saw two young kids around the adult only pool one morning but figured it was just a family touring around since they weren't there after a short time. You'll read on here about the long walk to the beach from this section of the resort and it's not an exaggeration .... But we personally loved it. With all the extra food you're eating, a little walk never hurt anyone. There are shuttle locations all along in case you want to hitch a ride.
We were ground floor with two queen beds overlooking the pool. Room was always very well cleaned and towel animals left for us daily. My one complaint would be that the mirror in our room was damaged and speckled rendering it useless basically ...for a 5* resort! change it out...room 942.
Beach was beautiful! Offered full beach service which we loved and weren't offered at our last all inclusive stay (Riu). Staff clean the beach constantly as well since you can take food to the loungers. Waves can be high and a bit rough - red flag was flying most of the time.
Staff are friendly and ready to make your stay a lot of fun.
We ventured to Akumal to swim with the sea turtles and snorkel, to Cenote Azul, and 5th Ave for some shopping.
There is lots to do in PDC and I would definitely go back and would stay at this resort again.

I just returned from my 7th fabulous vacation at Sandos Playacar with my sister and brother-in-law. Once again, we were located in a suite facing the ocean and all the beach activities, complete with daily wake up calls from the howler monkeys. I was pleased to see the improvements over the past year while maintaining the qualities that make the resort so special. Most notably was the Pancake House with the very pleasant staff efficient at making specialty coffees and teas as you desire. We enjoyed the well maintained mini golf and were pleased to see the focus on eccoism that the resort has taken. The new select bar is a nice touch. Rodrigo and Gustavo deserve recognition as they continue to greet the patrons in a friendly professional manner while providing your drink of choice. The Gourmet restaurant , under manager Luis, continues to provide a top dining experience The long time very experienced waiters Luciano and Jhonny have set the bar high for providing professional service while making each patron feel special. The Mediterranean restaurant also combines good food, service and a very pleasant atmosphere for your evening dining. We were treated each breakfast in the Festival Buffet to the sparkling and extremely efficient Dominga. Braulo provided very good service in his relatively new position at the Brazilian restaurant. It was nice to reconnect with Aurelia at the Beach Bagel House where she continues to show her capabilities. On the beach and at the pool, we were served efficiently by the very personable Jasmin and David E. The staff at the Sandos Playacar and the fabulous beach continue to make this place a great holiday destination. I look forward to my next visit to this resort.

From reading other's reviews I cannot believe we stayed at the same place. My husband and I travel several times a year to various places and I have to say that this is the worst all inclusive resort we have ever stayed in. Now if you are a vacation club member at this resort and reading this review please disregard because you are the only folks this resort wants to cater to so I'm sure you had a wonderful time. We booked this trip through Noli tours and upon arriving at the airport no one had heard of this company for our airport transfer. We finally said air transat is their affiliate and they put us on a bus. It is amazing the air transat reps didn't even know their own affiliates. In any case we were whisked away and greeted at Sandos Playacar by a well dressed man holding a cocktail for us. This was very nice and the last moment we enjoyed. Immediately bombarded by vacation club specialists we were informed we would be staying in the adults only section with premium bar service. What this really means is that you are far from all restaurants open during the day and the beach is about a quick fifteen minute hike. There are golf carts they use as shuttles but they are always full and not regularly run. Our room was on the third floor of a building with two broken elevators. The room while tidy was run down, had broken air conditioning and after three days of rain had a leaky ceiling. We also had a 1:30am visitor of a gecko hanging over our heads. A day before we were to leave we were relocated to another building that was just as run down but not leaking and had working elevators. This was a positive since they forgot to come for our luggage as requested on the day that we were leaving. The shows at night are childish at best and there are maybe two performers that have actual stage training. The restaurants were often shut during the day and the italian restaurant was under repair supposedly our entire stay. Looking for a breakfast bagel? They're served at the 6pm on the beach. Just odd. The hot dogs and hamburgers were not even cooked thoroughly and the food in the main buffet was just awful. We ate off the resort several days as we were so hungry. We did enjoy the a la carte Mexican and steakhouse though service was very slow. Note also that adults only guests have their own reserved spot on the beach though they only ever provided bar service to the nearby vacation club section. Our air transat rep never showed up at this resort so we had no one to help us mediate the situation. The hotel did compensate us with some champagne and offered a free dinner at one of the a la cartes. However compensating with free food at an all inclusive is hardly compensation and to go to this restaurant my husband would have required semi formal wear which we had not packed. Aside from the elevators and restaurants that we under repair the atm for us cash was out of order our entire stay. We met a man who had been there 8 months before and said it was broken then too so don't hold your breath. The desk was good about breaking down bills but we had to go off resort to get cash. The staff themselves were friendly and tried their hardest to apologize and I feel sorry that they are stuck working in a place with so many maintenance problems. Quality was just lacking what I have seen in other resorts on the same street. If you are looking to get to ferry terminal only $7 cab ride, xcaret was $12. As for that premium bar the drinks were good and only thing that got us through.

Room Tip: Ask to be in regular section. Adults only can be just as noisy at least you will be closer to beach and food.
