“Best Boutique Hotel in Playa”
Reviewed 29 January 2014

I go to Playa every year, usually in April, sometimes in July. I've stayed at this hotel 6 times. This is my choice in hotels for Playa.... The room cost is extremely reasonable, the hotel staff service is impeccable. Wifi can be spotty at times.... but I am not usually stuck to my cellphone when on vacation.....Rooms are always very clean, bathrooms are clean, and there is plenty of room. Their air conditioning works wonderful, and that is something you will find you need while in Playa. I have spent many an afternoon lounging at their pool.... very quaint, very exclusive, very nice. They just opened a restaurant adjacent, and they serve you wonderful fresh juices. This is one of the better boutique hotels within close proximity to all the hustle and bustle on 5th avenue. This hotel is 2 blocks to Mamitas Beach, half a block from Starbucks and my favorite cafe bar Ah Cacao is a block away. It's one block from Avenida cinco and very convenient to just about anything you could want.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room.

Christmas 2013 - I stayed with my friend in a standard plus room for one week. The public areas of the hotel were very clean and beautiful. The room filled our needs very well. The bed was a big one, the air conditioning worked well and there was free wifi. Also the own balcony was nice and you could easily go straight for a swim in the pool. The atmosphere was great in the hotel and the staff was very nice and helpful with good language skills. I really liked the hotel because it was convient and clean, and you were able to be there really freely how you wanted. The restaurant on site the hotel was quite nice aswell.

Found out that the description in hotels.com website for all standard rooms is "queen size bedding" does not match the size of the mattress. Their bedding is "matrimonial" size, which is smaller than a Queen Size. Bernardo, the front desk guy, with a really bad dress code, told me that all the rooms were the same. I requested a room with two beds. He said the hotel did not have rooms with two beds. However, he was going to check and see if there was a room with a King Size Bed. He offered us a King Size Bed on a second floor. The "super suite" offered was surely on a second floor built on the hotel roof and the stairs were made out of wood. The space between steps was at least 1 foot or more in height. Very hard to climb when wet, since it was raining and the steps were slippery. We paid about $60.00 US extra for a King Size bed. The mattress was inside a wicker frame and protected by a mattress protector with a hard plastic backing. The wicker is now dry and squeeks, the mattress protector is noisy and we could hardly sleep since every movement we made was a squeeky symphony. Never will stay there again, not even recommend it to my worse enemy.

Room Tip: Don´t trust hotel description. Matrimonial size bedding is Queen size for hotel. Don´t trust the fac...

Sept 2013 - spent a week in room 203 with no major complaints. The AC worked fine, the terrace overlooking the pool was lovely, and it was ideally located near the less-touristy end of the main tourist street. I read many reviews about the mattresses being too hard (I am very sensitive to that), but the bed in our room was just fine. You can check out free beach towels from the front desk. Other reviews mentioned that the pool closed at 10pm, but we swam in it later than that almost every night we were there, and no one said anything.

Some minor complaints: the lock on the paper-thin door was rather flimsy, and there was no deadbolt. It would not take much to break into the room. The safe in the closet did not have a lock on it. The restaurant attached to the hotel did not appear to have any established business hours. Sometimes it was open, most of the time it was not, and there was no rhyme or reason to it. The hotel does not have a parking lot, so we had to find street parking. We were always able to find a spot nearby, but depending on the time a year, finding street parking could be a problem. If you absolutely need wifi, then this is not the hotel for you, because the wifi is only available in the lobby, and even then the signal was usually very weak. (this didn't bother us, but it might bother others) The hotel's web site shows pictures of a second, rooftop pool, which we were not able to find. Then again, we never asked anyone about it either. It wasn't as close to the beach as I would have liked.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel, quirks and all.

We stayed here for 2 days. The hotel was clean and had everything you would hope for from a BB. Affordable and not over the top, strategically placed near the main street but far enough from the noise. Great restaurants and coffee shops just a block away. It was perfect for our stay in Playa.

Location of the hotel from the beach is not bad (four blocks away), the rooms are really big and the price its ok.
The problem comes if you need Internet, the wifi signal its only available in the first floor and not far from the lobby. They don't even have a good router for customer connections , they use the one the ISP company gives when they make the contract.

Pros>
+Good Price
+Good Location
+Nice and Quiet

Cons>
-NO WIFI
-No elevator
-No restaurant
-1 USD extra if you need security box
-Mattresses like rock, you will not be able to sleep.
-Heard about some discount for playa mamitas beach club, but when we arrive they never mentioned.
-No good attitude of the receptionist.

They could do better.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the first floor if you need internet.
