“Beautiful!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

Beautiful grounds with lots of amazing animals to see. Shows at night were good, Disco was a lot of fun. This property is close to the downtown Playa area - just minutes away from shopping and night life. Buffet is good, about the same as any other all inclusive, you will not go hungry! Specialty restaurants are awesome!! While we were there (June 2011) it was not crowded at all. The beach is great! Staff was very nice, but not as friendly as some other resorts we've visited in the area. Loved this place, although not as much as others, would go back!

This was our wedding destination. Iberostar Quetzel/Tucan made our family and friend vacation a 5 star. All our guests commented on how beautiful the grounds were; jungle, animals, flowers, beach, bridges, lobby and numerous food/beverage venues. We were able to cater to all vacation types: those wanting to read on the beach, those wanting to explore the town of Playa Del Carmen, those wanting to lay by the pool, those wanting to go on excursions, those who want to party and those wanting to go to Cozumel. You can't tell me "there is nothing to do". Thank you to all the hotel staff for letting us visit your beautiful piece of paradise and making our wedding vacation unforgettable.

I have stayed at a few all inclusive resorts, most of them being on the pricey side. This hotel was amazing for the price we paid. We stayed there 6 nights and 7 days. The weather was perfect for the entire week. It rained for 5 minutes one day then cleared right up. The food was plentiful and delicious. It was nice to go on Spring break in Mexico and not have to deal with loud drunk people. I was very suprised with the amount of activities that were available on a daily basis, and also the night time entertainment was very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

Room Tip: Request rooms in the 20-23 block. Closer to the beach and not in the heart of the jungle where they...

We have been to Cancun, Cozemel, and Puerta Varta, but this resort and beach was the best. there were us Three moms on spring break with our 18 year daughters. They loved the resort. The other resorts may be more for the wild spring breakers looking for a drunk fest. This resort had more families than spring breakers, but the disco provided a place for the younger guest to meet. The shows were really fun and the employees always looked like they were having fun. Everynight after the show the employees would ask guests to dance and they danced with young and old with a big smile on their faces. The zoomba lessons were a big hit with Ricardo because he was so enthusiastic. From the bartenders to the waitress to the ground crew, the staff always gave you a warm greeting and great service. Everyone spoke English well, so there was never a problem with language.

The water was a brilliant torquoise blue and the beach had a pretty white sand. the resort had lush tropical landscaping with peacocks roaming the grounds. There were areas that housed huge turtles, and flamingos, and swans. I also saw some monkeys in the trees along the path to the beach. One morning I looked out my sliding door and saw a peacock on my balcony wall with its tail cascading down the wall.

I would definitely go back there.

We walked into the Iberostar Quetzal and knew we had made the right choice for a hotel. The lobby is beautiful, it has wicker love seats and tables set up and in the middle there is a pool with a tree and natural vegetation..
The walk to our room was nice and the grounds are beautiful. There is a natural waterfall on the grounds and one is in view from the restaurant. They have kept the jungle theme intact and have not re located the animals. Its not unusual to see peacocks, flamingos, and monkeys. We had a monkey come swinging onto our balcony one afternoon, which was a little scary at first. The down fall to this is there are droppings on the sidewalks that you have to look out for when you are walking.
Our room was comfortable, clean and beautiful. It didnt have that musty smell that you can get in rooms near the ocean.
The pool area and beach is definitly five star material. There was also alot to do right on the resort. Dance lessons, volleyball, yoga, games, and hair braiding.
The staff was always friendly, and positive, no matter if it was your waiter, the bartender, or one of the dancers.
The buffet restaurants were good, and we didnt bother even making a reservation at one of the al a cart ones..
What I liked most about this hotel is the convience of everything. No matter what building your in your a close walk to everything, beach, lobby ect..
The Playacar area is nice as well. We had to pass through a security check point just to get in.. A seventy Peso cab ride to Play a Del Carmen, and about an hour from the airport.
They also have some vendors come in which you can barter with, who have a variey of items for sale..

Room Tip: Building 23, 24 or 25 would be ideal as they are a liitle closer to the pool and ocean. Building 27...

Just returned from 6 nights here......our first trip to Playa del Carmen. I read a lot of tripadvisor reviews prior to the trip, and I would have to say that I agree with most of them. This was our first "all inclusive" experience, and overall it was great! The property is beautiful, and the service spectacular! Rooms are ok, but then again we did not spend that much time in our room anyway. Breakfast buffet was great, but lunch & dinner were mediocre in my opinion. Ala carte restaurants were much better......specifically the Japanese, Italian and Steakhouse. We were a little disappointed that the bars - none of them had anything to offer for spiced rum. We are Capt Morgan drinkers, and there was no brand of spiced rum available even in the lobby bar where premiums are served. Other than that the drinks were certainly plentiful! and we tried several new ones. I personally like the Mojitos and Dirty Monkey. Ricardo, who helped us booking our excursions was awesome! We did the dolphin experience at Delphinus, Xplor and Tulum. Delphinus and Xplor were both exceptional and not to be missed if you have kids (we had our 12yr old son with us). We never made it to any of the shows or the disco while we were there, but there are certainly plenty of activiites going on at all times to keep everyone happy. From yoga in the mornings, to zumba and volleyball on the beach, bingo by the pool, ceramic painting, archery, ping pong........you name it! Our son has already asked if we can go back again for spring break next year! We will see. My hubby & I would like to go down there alone sometime too and just lay on the beach or by the pool the whole time! All in all it was a fabulous vacation and we would certainly stay at the Iberostar again!

Room Tip: I took the advice of many before me and requested buildings 20-24 and we got a ground floor room in...

I would like to thank the staff at the Iberostar Quetzal for making our stay a pleasurable one. Special thanks to Bartolo who took care of us at the breakfast table. The entertainment staff were also pleasent and full of energy. It was nice to have fresh fruit on a daily basis. The beach was excellent and what I liked about the place was that it was always windy which made going into the ocean a lot of fun. It also was good for the hot sun to keep you confertable throughout the day.

Room Tip: If you enjoy the beach then I recommend that you get a room near the beach.
